Lubbock Christian University is the campus where the funeral service of an extremely influential man was held on April 12, 2025. While my daughters and I remained primarily at the Church Of Christ Green Lawn, we noted how clean and well-maintained the campus was. Academically, LCU offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and has been ranked as a "top 20% best college in America." Their class sizes boast a 12:1 student to professor ratio. The Chapparels boast several men's and women's athletic teams: Baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY SOCCER CAMP DO NOT ATTEND! My son flew to Lubbock to attend the week long socer camp at LCU. He arrived at the airport to find that the student aide they had promised to me to pick up my son, was not there. Not only that, it turns out the camp was cancelled and I never received an e-mail or phone call. I put my 15 year old son on a plane by himself. I tried called the leader of the camp and even an emergency cell phone number and did not ever receive a response. I had to call the airline and get him on the next flight home. Do not enroll your child in this camp. They are not responsible for our children. Hopefully, I will get my refund of $370.00 for the camp plus reimbursement of the airfare. read more

I have been to a Jr. College, a state university, and LCU. Lubbock Christian by far BLEW the other two schools out of the water. Small classes in a small environment with exceptional professors! I can recall one of my majors classes having eight people in it! Odds are if you went to a 3a, 4a, or 5a high school, you will have smaller classes at this college. They have just about all of the mainstream majors that other universities have. It is a true Christian school, so if you are not religious you might not enjoy it as well. That however should not push you away from it. You do have to take bible classes along with your major. They are nothing big and they are fundamentally based bible classes. I like how they integrate a little Christianity in the field you study, but make sure your major is the focal point. Like for instance, you would learn in a science class about evolution and creationism. You would be well rounded and more educated knowing about both instead of one. (Science majors have to know about evolution because it is on the MCAT test required to receive a Master's Degree if you choose to pursue it.) You do get a Christian education, but it is more focused on the academic side of your field of study. I have been told numerous times that I was there for an education first. Anyone can seek God and get spiritual nourishment without going to college. Last time I checked, you didn't need a degree to pray. On the other hand, you had to have a degree to make a decent living in our country. It's not one of those "bring your bible to every class" type schools. They really do make sure you know your stuff before you graduate. My cousin went for a campus visit as a senior in high school to learn that 100% of their Pre-Med students that year were accepted into Medical Schools across Texas! That means they were taught more than just Christian principles! Just know that education is the focal point, and Christianity is the schools heritage. It really does feel like its own community inside of Lubbock. The atmosphere is one of the best things about it. You don't see people yelling and cursing at others across campus. It is a very positive place that helps develop a great character in some of the most important years of your life. When I was at LCU I found how much this environment helped me mature as a person. After a visit at home over the holidays, I felt like I was light years ahead of my high school classmates in the "growing up" department. I didn't feel like I was better than them, just at a different point in life. I also love the genuineness of the students. LCU is not a place where everyone is expected to be perfect little angels. Many of my friends were very down to earth people who did every day things like me. It's the realization of knowing no one will ever be perfect that made it great for me. That means you will automatically have a support system through friends who have Christ in their lives. Basically what I mean is there aren't a lot of bible-thumpers coming up to you and pointing out every little mistake (sin) you make. It is SUPER easy to get connected and plugged in. Never really saw a lot of lost kids trying to find their way around. They have social clubs (fraternities and sororities without the drinking and partying) intramural sports, and other extra circular activities. They also have a great athletics department and usually go deep in every sport. Games are free for students to attend. They also just opened up a newly renovated recreation center. It's HUGE and has a nice work out facility. Brand new equipment and even free personal trainers! If LCU could improve in one area it would be their tuition. Private schools like LCU do not get the same funding state schools receive. That means that a majority of their funding comes from tuition and donations. I really wish there was some way to lower the tuition to make it more affordable. However, for a private university, it is nearly dirt cheap. Go see how much SMU, TCU, and ACU are before you frown at LCU's price tag. I even heard (don't know if this is true) that it is cheaper your freshman year at LCU than Texas Tech because of living on campus. In today's economy it is not uncommon at all to have student loans. Unless your well taken care of, you will probably have a few loans when you graduate. But hey, you will be making on average $2 Million more in your lifetime because of this degree. Your degree will make up for the difference...trust me! Overall I am really glad I chose LCU to finish up my college career. You really should give it a shot if you are looking for a great school in the West Texas area! read more

I worked for LCU for a little over 3 years. You would think that a "Christian" university would treat them employees well. They really don't, especially if you are not a member of the Church of Christ. They were always very hard on me when it came to my job duties and they were obsessed with giving me bad evaluations no matter how well I did. My supervisor in University Advancement even told me that she had to put something negative on my evaluation, so she just made something up. And she knew that it was a lie but she didn't care. At one point, a new employee starting working in my department, University Advancement. He is a member of the Church of Christ and graduated from a different Church of Christ university. He was in that position for about a year. During that time, he was hardly ever in the office and he barely talked to me. Then he was promoted to the head of the department position. A week or two later, right before Christmas, he decided to give everyone evaluations. He gave me a HORRIBLE evaluation, told me that I wasn't good enough to be working at Lubbock Christian University. He told me that I was only good enough to work at the fast food Mexican restaurant across the street. And THEN he asked me exactly what I did at my job there. He gave me a horrible evaluation, insulted me big time and he had no clue what my job entailed. That is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!! Then he waited 7 months later, while I was in the middle of getting divorced, to fire me. Because of "bad evaluations", which were all lies. I was also fired 2 weeks before my son's birthday and one month before we moved. I filed for unemployment and they flat out LIED to try to prevent me from getting it. They said that the Human Resources lady and her assistant both witnessed me quitting. They weren't even in the same building. But they were not able to prevent me from getting unemployment because they gave me severance pay. They wouldn't have given me that if I had voluntarily quit. So they obviously do NOT have Christian values at all. Working there was a complete nightmare, especially because of how horrible I was treated. There honestly was no pleasing them at all. I wasn't able to report them discriminating against me because I am a Methodist, which was unfair, but I didn't have any proof. And everyone there was more than happy to lie about it. read more

Worst school and waste of money for a single semester. I didn't feel welcomed at all or included when I was in class. When I had no way of getting home for the winter break they did not want to find a way to help me stay in the dorms a extra day I was lucky to have my cousin lived in town. read more

Wonderful University that gave me a wonderful college experience when I was there as a student from Fall 1999 - Spring 2003! The classes were nice & small, & all the professors knew me by name. I also have some great memories of friends in club (LOA/Kyodai), the dance team (back when LCU had one), & Master Follies. Now I enjoy going back to visit for Homecoming Weekend, mostly to see Master Follies (Saturday night show sells out within minutes, so I prefer to go to the Friday night show), or maybe see the club breakfast (if I can make it), or the decade reunion. They even have a Starbucks on campus (front of the library), & the campus bookstore has lots of memorabilia & souvenirs in the SUB (Student Union Building). This school still has a family-feeling whenever I visit. Go Chaps! read more
