I am looking for a salon to do a blowout on a Sunday. Weirdly, finding an open hair salon in Maine on a Sunday is like finding a snowball in the Sahara Desert--maybe harder. So I was beyond thrilled when I found Lucinda's was open, after looking 30 miles in every direction from Portland. I decided to temper my expectations until I actually booked the appointment and Lucinda's gives you the option of booking by signing in, registering as new, or without registering. I went with the last choice because-------why on earth would I waste my time, and hand over all my contact info, if there was no availability for a blowout? So, I happily proceed to check, and sure enough! There is a blowout available many different times up to 2:15pm Sunday (the day before I start a new job in this new city with so much humidity my hair became an instant frizz bomb when arriving her today (Saturday). So I booked 2:15pm and get an error message--says I must register to book. OK. So.....it is a fairly involved process. Have to fill in all sorts of my personal contact data (which I don't give out to everyone and I hate turning it over to companies who don't need it). And then I have to confirm on my phone, which is buried somewhere in my luggage (I was doing all this on my laptop). Get the phone, get the code, input the code, it starts me over from scratch, input the data, select the service, select the stylist, select the day, select the time and......oh, jk folks! Worst haircut of my life and I'm not even close to picky. She did not have her guard tight on the clippers and took a huge chunk out of my short hair. She then had to have another girl fix it because she didn't know how. I had to have my hair faded WAY shorter than I wanted in order to make it less visible. Even after the fading it is still noticeable. I showed a picture of a pixie cut I wanted with some length in the front. I got zero length and a horrible shaved head on the side. (The sides aren't even the same as well, one is longer than the other) Layla completely botched it and I'll NEVER go back here again. The only reason I didn't bust out in tears in the salon is because at least Pam tried to fix it for her. On the plus side she did not charge me, but now I have to pay to have someone else fix it. Such a joke and rookie mistake out of someone who is supposed to be a professional. I wish I could do negative stars if I'm being honest. I could tell even Layla's coworker was embarrassed for how she had cut my hair. Pam was the only positive experience here. read more

Don't waste your time or money. I scheduled for an hour and half facial. My esthetician Brittany showed up late and had me leaving my scheduled appointment 20 minutes early. When addressing front desk they seemed confused and said it was maybe due to "cleaning time" put into a CLIENT'S scheduled time but they weren't sure and were just as confused as me why I was done so early. I called the spa the day before and the lady explained it was an hour and half service which is why I was booked from 9:30-11:00. **For background, I saw my phone at 10:43, I had to wait for Brittany to cleanup, wash her hands and leave which took a few minutes before I got to my phone to check the end time. My appointment was scheduled to end at 11:00, so 20 minutes generally speaking** I have family in this buisness and have been getting facials for years and I promise that is not a thing anywhere else. When the owner Marissa called me back she basically laughed in my face that I was upset about her worker showing up late and then having me leave early. Marissa seemed HAPPY about it and took pride in what I look at as a lack of work ethic and service given to a paying and trusting customer and how their cleaning time is put into a clients paid hour and half appointment. I was not offered a refund or compensation for the time they took from my appointment. They used my time and money in a dishonest way and I highly reccomend supporting a different buisness that puts you first not their cleaning time! read more

First time customer, pricing didnt match the brochure. When I questioned this the receptionist spoke down to me rather than helping me understand the change. The owner is now saying I was scheduled with someone at a higher rate and doesnt understand my confusion. How would a new customer know that? She spent more time pointing out how I should have looked at the website and or scheduled with a stylist in the price range on the brochure, again a new customer is going to think to do this. I have been coming here for a long time and I would say for the area, they are a great spa that allows you to not always have to travel into Portland. I see Marina for waxes and she is AMAZING. I've also had facials and massages done here and they were very relaxing and left my skin glowing. My boyfriend and I got a couples massage done this spring and I wasn't thrilled with it- the massage was good but they literally just did it like two separate massages being done in one room which felt weird. I have visited Lucinda's a lot in the last few years and all but one experience has been perfect. Different facials, body scrubs, massages and the best ever deep tissue massage. Each visit has been on-time, professional and relaxing. The only time I've been disappointed was for a mani/pedi. It didn't feel any different than a regular nail salon with exceptions to the price. For massages, this place is a well known spot for its services. I've gotten the deep tissue massage here 2x, once many years ago and another recently. While I had different masseuses, I walked out satisfied. I haven't experienced other services aside from a brow tint, which didn't really do much for me. Compared to one I'm familiar with in Chicago where I live, this one was barely noticeable with the tint. I probably will stick with a different salon as I barely received a consultation on my preferred brow. As for facials, my sister swears on the signature facial so I'd consider trying that some day. read more

I went to Lucinda's Day Spa as a new client on 03/23/23. I booked a shellac manicure and pedicure. The nail technician and I picked a shellac color that would match my toes as I had an important event that weekend. When I left and entered natural light, the color on my nails/toes did not match. Lucinda's blamed this on a nail polish manufacture issue, (okay---but it's a moot point given my overall experience). Lucinda's then put me with an unlicensed nail technician (without informing me she was an "in house apprentice" nor asking me if I would be okay with a nail apprentice training on me to re-do my shellac nails), and then had a senior nail technician re-paint my toes. If I had wanted an apprentice to do my shellac nails I would have gone to Empire Beauty School to support students. I asked for a full refund for the ordeal I went thru not only in my time being inconvenience, but in the unsatisfactory shellac nails done by the apprentice, and especially for the establishment omitting that I was being put with an apprentice who only had three weeks on the job. I felt taken advantage of. I gave them client feedback via email. Sometimes it's best to let a business display their customer service. I feel it speaks volumes. I have never been asked not to revisit an establishment, never-mind been treated this way by a business. Lucinda's Day Spa Response below: Hi ___________, I just wanted to follow up with you regarding your client feedback we just received. To start, we will not be refunding you for any of your services. As stated in your e-mail, and multiple times to you on the day of your service, the original issue occurred due to a manufacturer error- something that was beyond our control. When this was brought to managements attention, it was made clear that the issue was not due to the level of skill of your technician or the quality of service, but rather that you were displeased with the color of your polish that you chose. This is an issue that, under usual circumstances, would not warrant such attention, nor this level of response. Even so, we hold ourselves to the highest level of customer service standards and went above and beyond to rectify this unfortunate happenstance as we knew this issue was of particular significance to you. We did this by presenting you with a number of different options, 1. Keep your nails the way they were and receive a refund. 2. Match the color on your toes by removing the shellac on your hands and re-polishing with normal polish, free of charge and refund you for the difference in cost. 3. Remove the polish on your toes and repaint with the shellac, free of cost.4. or, Choose and entirely new color and repaint both your toes and your nails so that they matched, free of cost. At no point was it discussed that we would redo both services AND refund you in full, as the point remains that the services were rendered and therefore have to be paid for. After much back and forth on what you would prefer to do, you chose to pick a new color and have the services be redone at no cost. We went out of our way to make this happen by asking these technicians to skip their lunch breaks and stay late for you to do so (which they both did). To your point on _________, ___________ is a licensed Apprentice through the state of Maine, and no client up until you has had any problem with the quality of her work- as she is an exceptionally talented apprentice and has been booked solid since she opened for services. We did not omit this information out of malice, but rather it did not seem relevant seeing as you did not want/accept any of the other options that were given to you. Furthermore, it was brought to my attention that after all of this, you then approached the front desk and asked for the gratuity that you originally had left for ________back. (even though you were fully aware it was not an error on her part, but again, an issue with the product). After talking with the owner, ________, and showing her this feedback that you have left, it is at this point that we will be letting you know that we are no longer interested in your business, and ask that you do not return to this establishment. Here at Lucinda's we are only interested in serving a clientele that respects and values all employees, of all levels, and the services that they provide. This company's deceptive practices and sneaky behavior left a really bad taste in my mouth and I would never return regardless of how much I enjoyed my services. I hope the wonderful technicians find another place to work. I was given a spa week gift card value of $200 and used the website to look up participating providers in the area and found Lucinda's day spa listed as one. I then booked an appointment and let them know that I was going to use said gift card, however, I did give them my credit card to hold the appointments. I received my services the next day & upon my departure the receptionist let me know that she didn't know how to cash out said card, but that she would leave it for her manager, who would be in touch the following day. I thanked her and let her know if there was a problem with the card to please have the manager give me a call before charging the card I had put on file. The following day I received a voicemail stating they had charged the card on file and that they were no longer accepting the spa week gift cards subsequently when I went to the spa week.com site to verify, that they were indeed a participating provider they removed themselves from it!!!! At this point there was no recourse for me and the thoughtful gift I was given turned into this very single working mom having to pick up a few extra jobs this week to attempt to cover it. I have been going to Lucinda's a couple times a year for ages. After having a manicure in Colorado that I thought was shellac, I went to Lucinda's yesterday for a re-do. Although the ticket said $45, I was charged an extra $20 for "hard gel removal" which I thought was outrageous. Apparently it's $45 only if you got the first shellac there? I had the worst massage experience (and post experience) at lucindas that I've ever had in my life. As soon as i entered the room with my massage therapist Joel, he immediately asked me for a cash tip (despite the fact I had been asked not to bring cash because of COVID) and claimed the spa had not been giving employees their credit card tips. When I responded that I had no cash because I was asked not bring any he asked he to walk to an ATM down the street to get some. The conversation lasted several minutes in which he continued to push me to go get money and then he also asked for my discretion. It was incredibly uncomfortable and ruined the rest of my massage experience there. I have been visiting Lucinda's for about 8 years, whenever my wife and I visit our summer home in Freeport and time allows, we make an appointment. Scheduling appointments is very easy, the facility is so big with so many massage therapists that finding a time that will work is almost never a problem. If the time you are looking for isn't available, they front desk provides options and does everything they can to accommodate. The facility is beautiful, clean, relaxing, probably the best I have visited. I have visited other spas while traveling for work both domestic and international, Lucinda's blows them away. The massages I have experienced, usually couples room with wife, about 10 or more experiences have been amazing; clean, professional, amazing pressure and understanding the focal points of each visit. Every therapist I have had has been great, my last 2 visits (July and August 2017) have been with Anna, I highly recommend. The bride-to-be and the other 2 girls we were with got massages and facials. We were all so impressed with the quality of service being provided that we are already talking about going back for my bachelorette party!! I had been a customer of Lucinda's for at least 5 years. I had one bad experience where I felt violated by one of the massage therapists. I called to report a few days later and requested only a full cash refund. Lucinda was cold and unapologetic. She expressed that in 28 years of business she has NEVER given a cash refund and offered me a gift card. I expressed my concern and discomfort with coming back and that I wouldn't end up using a gift card (she kept the masseuse that I had a negative experience with employed and defended him). She insisted that she would not give me a refund. When I asked, "have you ever had a complaint like this?", she said, "no". I said, "well in this circumstance I feel a refund is the only right thing to do." She was insistent on her perspective and made me feel like I had done something wrong. In the end, there was no refund and I will never support a business that treats women this way. I encourage you to look elsewhere for spa services, if for no other reason than not to support a women who has this perspective and way of operating her business. read more

The facility was immaculate and very serene We all received a variety of services from a combination massage, Swedish massage, Hot stone massage facials, manicure, and pedicures. I've enjoyed every single time I've gone to Lucinda's but I'm specifically writing this review to commend its nail services. I just went back to school in a different state and got my nails done. I have been so spoiled going to Lucinda's all summer, I forgot how awful of an experience it is going anywhere else! Before getting manicures and pedicures done at Lucinda's, I didn't realize it was supposed to be a relaxing experience. Now that I know, I can't go anywhere else. Currently my fingers hurt and I'm bleeding and my nails sting when I wash them from going to the place by my university. I miss Lucinda's! We visited Lucinda's Day Spa a few weeks back and had the BEST pedicure! This place really knows have to provide a spa service. The atmosphere was relaxing and the technician we had was very professional and skilled. I've been to other American-style nail salons, mostly in the Portland area, and found the girls to not be trained well or rushing the service. This was very enjoyable and RELAXING! I was so glad to see that my polish was glopped on and my foot massage didn't consist on just slapping on body lotion. After being disappointed and not treated well three times in a very short period of time, I will no longer be a customer nor recommend Lucinda's. The first incident was my 17-year old daughter having her eyebrows waxed and plucked to the point where literally part of her brow was missing (after asking for only a "clean-up"). Because that was the first time she'd had a bad brow experience there, she tried again recently for a clean-up waxing. This time she ended up with an entire layer of skin peeled off underneath each brow. It hurt, scabbed, and took days to heal. I will attach pictures if I can figure out how. I thought she would need a doctor it was so bad. We brought her back to Lucinda's to have them looked at - after receiving a lecture over the phone that it was her own fault for using a skin care product with retinol in it prior to the wax. First of all, there is no warning or questions asked before their waxings to determine if you have used retinol or to warn you there can be a reaction. Secondly, we brought her skin cleanser in and their senior brow person looked at the ingredients and confirmed that there wasn't even retinol in the product. They gave us a very hard time about refunding the cost of waxing despite her injuries. They also told us that the owner would call us - but she never did. Against my better judgment, I booked a massage there yesterday thinking that a massage would be a safe service to have there. Twenty minutes into a 90-minute massage, I was informed that I would have to get dressed and move to another room due to a scheduling conflict (although I wonder if it was because their front desk person knew about the eyebrow complaint). I declined and instead paid $35 for being there less than 30 minutes and leaving more stressed than when I walked in. The front desk person was snooty about the incident saying that "it happens" that people are asked to move in the middle of a massage (sorry - don't buy it; has never happened anywhere else and shouldn't happen at all!) and said "I really couldn't tell you" when I asked why nobody had ever called to follow-up on my daughter's brow injuries. All I can say is that they seem to have gone downhill lately and their staff is not trained to care about their customers or to offer good customer service. "Beware"! read more

I visited Lucinda's for a manicure. While the staff and my nail tech were as nice and friendly as they could possibly be, I was very disappointed In my manicure. The manicure area looked a little unsanitary to me especially when my nail tech was using tools pulled out of a mug filled with other tools including used woodsticks. I wondered why the manicure was so cheap $18, when I saw the price on my service card. I realized after, it was because it was a glorified polish change. I was surprised when she put cream on my hands AFTER she painted my nails and while they were wet. Needless to say, my fingres received no cream or massage. I wasn't offered trying time. She grabbed my bag for me and told me to be careful. I felt rushed out, even though there was no one else having a service in the area. What I got was worth 18 dollars but I feel it shouldn't have been called a manicure. read more

The facility itself needs updating and I have found the front desk very lacking. Recently, when bringing a situation to the manager, I was completely appalled at her lack of skill and ability to respond to my needs as a customer. I've had several services done at this spa (massages, facial, and nail work). Several (not all) of the Yarmouth nail technicians have been rude and do a sloppy job. I had my eyebrows waxed, which cost $15. I asked to have a $5 gratuity added to my card. When I checked my credit card bill a few days later, I noticed a charge of $69!!! So I called and the receptionist told me that I had given a $54 tip!!!! I replied "No, I did not". She then went on to say, "Well you signed the credit card slip". Wow! So unprofessional. I had to make several phone calls to get this straightened out. I was told that because of how this was handled, they would refund me the full $69, which I thought was reasonable since it was me who discovered their mistake. Unfortunately, after waiting a week, I was only refunded $49. So I called back and asked about the discrepancy and the owner was a complete bitch. I will never go back there. The service has been inconsistent lately anyways, so this was an easy decision to make. read more

Today I had a 2:30 appointment and at 2:40 was told someone made a mistake on bookings and the person before me was going to take 45 minutes longer than expected. 45 minutes? Really? I drive 30 minutes and have to take off from work to go here and do not have time in my schedule for this to happen. I've been a client since 2003, I think. I generally go for massages; I found Alison and I never want her to leave my life. I suffer from back issues and I am not sure who comes out of our sessions more worked over. She is jovial and makes me laugh while beating the ever loving snot out of my clenched muscles. Somehow she manages to do it much like a cat.... you know, how a cat can kneed and kneed the same spot and manage to be annoying and someone painful, but not to the point of actualy pain? That's her... my massage cat. I have also had pedicures here with a friend a time or two. They are ok and relaxing. I had my nails done once, but I am not that in to nal care to come here for that. They do carry Aveda products for those of you looking for those. Also, they have little stuff like coin purses, socks, gardening gloves and soaps with storks inside (like for a babyshower gift). I have rarely had more frustration when trying to make an appointment than the last two times I have tried to book appointments when Lucinda answered the phone. During the first call she kept trying to sell me an appointment that wasn't even on the day I was looking for let alone the time. I repeatedly told her that I understood the time slot was available but I was not. Today was even stranger, after trying to find a time for a basic manicure in the next two days and being told they were fully booked from open until close, I commented that it must be due to the holiday week. "Nope, we're booked like this all thru the summer." I'm not a fan of putting Herculean effort into making a manicure appointment. I have better things to do. If you're this busy all summer long than maybe it's time to find a new spa that doesn't require schedule gymnastics to get a simple nail appointment. read more

So worth the money. The girls at check in and check out are always very nice as well.
