The takeout window is a great idea for ono grinds for the late night crowd. Not just your average hot dogs and greasiness. This is a place for the sophisticated foodie crowd. The guy helping us was really friendly and easy to talk to. The menu is handwritten on a scroll-like piece of paper. We tried the Pork Belly Bao with sake hoisin and pickled cucumbers....a unique pairing that worked. The salt and juiciness of the cucumbers paired well with the bold flavors of the hoisin. This place is awesome. Really really awesome. First off lets start with their drink menu. They have really creative and tasty cocktails. Mostly things ive never heard of being mixed together. Overall they are not too sweet, not too strong, but just right in every area. The food is also great. For appetizers we had shrimp gyoza (must have) with avocado and edamame spread, and lamb eggrolls (cant remember the name of them) and they were also delicious. Around the table we all got different noodle bowls. I went with the beast (if you like meat and happiness youll get this one) all sorts of meat including some oxtail dumplings. My friend and I had about a thirty minutes it's wait on a week night. We sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with the bartender. We ordered cocktails which sounded much better than they were. But they do have a fun cocktail menu. We started with the recommended duck breast appetizer but were unable to chew more than half the slices, so the unfortunately ended up in our napkins instead of our bellies. Our ramen bowls were good, nothing special though. I had the shrimp kim chee bowl. I would prefer to try someplace new before returning here. I've read the reviews...I've heard the raves...and had made a mental note to myself to check out the Lucky Belly. As it happened, I won a gift certificate for the Lucky Belly during our holiday party a couple of weeks ago. So today I decided to come here with a friend for lunch. I had the tempura fish tacos...yum! My friend had the Belly Bowl, which he proclaimed very tasty, but would have preferred for it to be bigger. WTH?! I was really looking forward to trying Lucky Belly because of the rave reviews and the fact that everyone and their momma has been. I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up because I was quite disappointed. The bill for 2 came out to $60. This is what we had: Beef tartare = Unfortunately the menu did not explain that this was a smoked beef tartare. I was expecting nice red, RAW beef, but unfortunately I did not get what I craved. There were lots of capers in the dish, which made it too salty for my liking. Oxtail dumplings = 4 dumplings overstuffed with oxtail. The meat was tender, but the oxtail's meaty flavor overpowered everything else. Ramen = The kitchen apparently ran out of bean sprouts that evening and compensated my missing bean sprouts with kim chi. However, the kim chi had red onions and was surprisingly sweet. I understand this is a "fusion" kind of restaurant, but sometimes there are certain things that should be left the way they are--like kim chi. The reason people like kim chi is because of the spicy, tangy, fermented taste. Making kim chi sweet defeats its purpose (well, for me, at least). Whyyyy? Anyway, back to the ramen. The broth was a-ok, but kind of bland. It's a good thing they had chili oil as a condiment. There was also a lot of seaweed, but it's okay because I like seaweed. Drinks = SO had a Modelo and I had a vodka soda. I should've got a beer because my drink was pretty weak. All-in-all, I would consider going back if the bill were half the price. (+) Sake flight tasting - Although not on the menu, I asked if they had a sake flight tasting and the bartender came out, asked us what kind of sake we liked and put together a flight for us. He also took the time to explain to us the differences, tasting notes, etc. of all the sakes. Really nice guy. It was also only $10. A good deal. (+) The beef tartare was quite tasty (+) Appetizers came in sets of three and our waiter asked us if we wanted to add an extra item on the plate so we would have an even number. A nice option to have. Negatives (-) (-) Pork belly bao - Okay, but a little dry. More hoisin sauce would have been nice. (-) Shrimp gyoza - the wrapping was good, and don't get me wrong. It was good. But inside the gyoza was a piece of shrimp, a piece of asparagus, and some mushrooms. Separate pieces, kind of making it an awkward gyoza. I think I would have liked it better if they ground up the ingredients and made it into a meatball type thing, to put into the gyoza. I've never had a gyoza before with just separate pieces of stuff inside. (-) We were served the bao and the tartare right away, then had to wait about 20 minutes for the gyoza. hm.... If I could only have one thing at lucky belly what would it be.... that's sort of like tourture. You have to go at least a couple times just to make it through trying out most of the appetizers & their selection of beers, sake, wines and hard A.... Back to picking something to start with, thinking back, I think the first thing I ever had at lucky belly was the belly bowl. Thick delicious cuts of smoky pork belly, a piece of sausage and a boiled egg a top a bed of seaweed and ramen noodles, in what I think tasted like a shoyu based broth. This is where I would recommend to start. As far as cravings though, I usually end up back here again craving the oxtail wontons... you can get them as a set of 3 just on their own on the appetizer part of the menu, or if you don't want to have that many theres one in the beast bowl with ramen. The other dish from lucky belly that I usually crave is the beet salad. Thin layers of beets and cheese.... but then again, I just really like beets :) If you go after 6pm or on a sunday, street parking is free. Otherwise the cheapest parking nearby is the chinatown municpal - but cash only. My only reason for taking away one star is you have to search somewhere else for dessert! read more

I've been here a few times and it's always been a delight going here. I can't say that they have "the best" ramen in town, but when you factor in other things like the ambience, value, and service, this is by far one of the top ones on my list of ramen places to go. The host and servers have been great and very attentive all of the times I've been there. They always refill water, take away plates promptly and ask several times how everything is. The food overall is excellent. For $12-$14, you get a HUGE portion of ramen with veggies (and meat). This time i ordered the kimchee and shrimp ramen and it was very good! I was surprised at how well the shrimp was cooked because I really hate overcooked shrimp. I also ordered the shishito peppers and crab cakes. Omg, the crab cakes were so delicious! Very moist inside and I loved the aioli dressing that came with it. I always feel like I'm at a fancy place with the atmosphere, quality of food, and service, but not paying the fancy prices here. read more

I'm literally giving this four stars because the wonderful service we got and the pork belly bao was SO GOOD. This was my first time here and it was super busy because it was 12:30 prime lunch time so the guy (who I think might've been the manager because he was the only one not wearing a V-neck) told us it'd be about 20 minutes. So my boyfriend and I killed some time walking around and I mean we didn't have to wait THAT long. It was seats at the bar though, which made me kind of hesitant at first but I was really hungry so I didn't really care. Let me tell you though I AM SO GLAD WE SAT AT THE BAR. Shirley is such a good server and made sure all of our needs were met. I also liked the fact that if I wanted something from the bar I could get in a few seconds. For example, I ordered a plantation iced tea and it wasn't sweetened at all so I asked for some simple syrup and I got it right away whereas when I ate at pig & the lady our server totally forgot. They also have the really good ginger beer (bundaberg), so my boyfriend ordered that. We first ordered the pork belly bao, which was super delicious I could've probably ate 2 more plates of that. I ordered the lucky bowl which was just ramen with veggies pretty much. Too much seaweed (wakame) though, in my opinion because I'm not a huge fan of wakame. But if you are you'll be super happy. My boyfriend ordered the belly bowl, which had bacon (ham), sausage, and pork belly. I honestly think it could do without the "bacon" the sausage and pork belly were good. So delicious and great customer service! Came here on Saturday to conclude our anniversary celebration week. We parked at one of the open parking lots for $6.00. It was a nice stroll through downtown from the parking area to Lucky Belly. Working up our appetites. We walked in and gave our names for the reservation (definitely a recommendation, especially on the weekend). We were seated promptly even though we were slightly early. After walking in, I recognized a familiar waiter that we usually saw on our anniversary at a different location. Come to find out that the table we were seated at was in his section. Sometimes, I don't want to scare the staff with my super awesome memory...so I casually asked if he worked at the previous location. Sure enough, he remembered us by our order! It was truly a surprise and a treat that we could celebrate with him (even though he was unaware). Safe to say that this was the start of a great dinner service! I always look up the menu to every new restaurant I go to because I don't want to waste time reading the menu while I'm there. I was deciding between the Kabocha Ravioli and the Lucky Bowl Ramen. The Ramen won in the end but that means I need to go back again. My husband ordered the Pork Katsu and we shared the Lamb Lumpia appetizer. We usually order a bottle of red but played it safe and stuck with a glass of red for the Mr. I wasn't sure if I wanted to drink so I perused the cocktail menu a little longer. I finally decided that I wanted to have a glass of white. I wanted a wine that was similar to a Pinot Grigio...that wine just so happened to be the one out of stock that night (boo). Not to worry, our friendly server came to the rescue and went literally next door to grab a bottle. Talk about service! It was actually a Riesling which I normally do not like to drink because it's a little too sweet BUT it paired nicely with the ramen broth. Our friendly server also told us that we wouldn't be able to get our usually night cap of coffee with bailey's because they didn't have bailey's. I was slightly bummed but then asked if they had Kahlua. No go on that too but he did say there was something similar. Our lamb lumpia appetizer came and it looked so yummy....STOP....had to take a picture first before diving in. The meat reminded me of shredded char siu meat and the gochujang dipping sauce added the right amount of heat. We also received a pork belly bao as a surprise. Definitely a must have when you visit Lucky belly! I know I'm not the first to say that and will definitely not be the last. Our entrees came shortly after I finished my portion of the appetizers and I felt that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The ramen bowl is HUGE! The pork katsu looked really good too but I had no room to try it for myself. They place a little bottle of chili oil on your table if you order ramen. That kicks it up a notch if you prefer the heat. Sad to say that I was unable to finish my meal...again EYES BIGGER THAN MY STOMACH. The husband ate the rest of my meal and enjoyed it. Another server placed a cup on the table and we both were a little confused...come to find out that the cup was the suggested coffee night cap that our server suggested. It was different and there were many flavors that I was not expecting to taste from a "coffee" drink. The place is kind of dark & cramped but they had good food & service was awesome! This is one of those places where the portions are perfect for ants, but priced for giants. Didn't experience a wait time because we got in around 9pm. Orders: *Duck Tataki. Duck is soo greasy & fattening, but I LOVE duck! But the way they prepared this dish, it didn't make me feel like I was gargling thick, oily fat while I talked. It was delicious! Too bad they only give 5 thin ass pieces. *Lobster Shu Mai. Interesting, but good. Would probably try something else. Only served 3 pieces :( *Oriental chicken salad. This was the biggest portion. A little too big. It was good. But I go somewhere else for my oriental chicken salad. *Beast bowl. This was enough for 2. It was good, but I've had better ramen. The oxtail won tons were an oddly sweet surprise. I didn't think it mixed well with the ramen. Our first reaction after seeing how little they give was, "...so where are we eating after this?" No joke. Which is why we ordered all of the above for just 2 people. And it was just right (in addition of 2 yummy cocktails). So you can imagine how much the bill was just for 2. You and I need to have a talk about Lucky Belly. Featured in Honolulu Magazine a few months ago, it made my 'Places to Eat Soon' list as soon as I had read about it. I have to say, this has been the most clear-cut 5-Star rating I've given in quite some time. We walked in to a packed restaurant at 11:45 for lunch on a Wednesday. We had a short wait and enjoyed a couple of amazing beers off of a compact, but high-quality list of craft beers. They also had some sakes and wines, none of which seemed run-of-the-mill. They also had some spirits behind the bar, which were all top shelf. I did not see a cocktail menu, either, but I can only hope that they've come up with some cocktails using some of these high-end spirits. The menu was focused, definitely going for less dishes done extremely well. My wife had the fish tacos, which were loaded with obviously fresh ingredients. I had the Belly Bowl. It was a full-bodied bowl of ramen with sausage and a few cuts of the most luxurious pork belly I've had in some time. The broth was complex and nuanced. It got more ridiculous as I ate it, the more all of the goodness melded together. The perfectly soft-cooked egg lent some creamy richness with the egg yolk becoming one with the broth. I could not put this down. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I don't just hand out the 5-Star rating to just anyone. Great service, great food, great beers. Can't fault it. read more

2 words to remember... BELLY BOWL. Talk about melt in your mouth pork belly. My husband and I had a date night here after Yelp's 2012 Holiday Hoopla. LOVE the decor, LOVE the gigantic ramen bowls, LOVE the late night hours, LOVE the ramen. The smell of the restaurant as we walked in at around 930pm was so good. I was ready to warm my stomach. The hubby said they put something in this bowl of ramen that makes you sleep. In other words he's a happy man. It's a phenomenal bowl of ono goodness that satisfied us both on a cool night. After reading all of the hype and good reviews, I decided to take the family there for an early dinner on a friday night. After FREAKING out my kids by walking through the streets of chinatown (in daylight) with the fresh smell of urine all over the place, cross dressing man in the streets dancing, and a group of guys without shirts looking like they were robbing a store (must have been movers), we got to our destination........I parked at the meters next to the police station and we all still felt unsafe in the daytime! The place was half full and it was 5:30pm. They said they could not give us a table because we did not have reservations. I noted to the hostess that #1 their website noted that reservations were only between the hours of 5pm to 6pm and #2 we were willing to wait. She said that we could wait but we probably would not get a seat of a couple of hours????? http://www.luckybelly.com/html/reservations.html So we ordered take out as we watched the empty tables NOT get filled for the next 20 minutes. Why put something on your website that says you'll only take reservations for the time period 5 pm to 6 pm and leave tables unfilled with customers like us dying to have one of them? First rule of a ramen shop, maximize throughput and turnover in seats/customers (learn this from watching the Ala Moana Goma Tei crew show how it's done). So we got our take out, went home and off course everything was cold. The soup on the side was still warm but we had to nuke it. Was not impressed with the pork buns or shrimp dumplings. The pork buns buns tasted stale/old/hard and had that funky stale smell. The dumplings pi was not cooked enough and ruined to whole dish. We also had 3 belly bowls and 1 beast bowl. The beast bowl had funky tasking oxtail dumplings that did not taste right and the pi was also not cooked enough. My oldest had a night of stomach cramps and #2s from this. After all of the negative things about this place, I'm giving it a 2 stars because #1 maybe eating the food there versus take out would have improved the whole experience and #2 the belly bowl was ok for $8 and something I would order again. I think Luck Belly is well worth trying. Their service is excellent. The ambience is inviting. It's a nice floor plan and they use fresh ingredients from scratch. But, I'm sorry you guys for doing this. You need to make some changes to your food. When I first came here a year ago, the food was phenomenal. I'm talking broke da mouth delicious. Last night (6/28/17) was okay. What happened?? The menu is fantastic, well constructed, and makes you want to order everything. But did you hire inexperienced cooks just to save some money on your overhead? I ordered the fungi ramen. The broth was bland and watery. I had to add hot sauce which I shouldn't have to do. I also ordered the bim bim bap. It was pretty good, but not amazing. I've had better. Finally, I ordered a Bloody Mary. It was not on the menu which was not a good idea on my part. But I was craving it. It had too much lemon in it, no salt on the rim, and I could barely taste the tomato flavor. Our bill was about $70 for two meals and 3 drinks. I felt it did not satisfy my craving and I'm a bit reluctant to go back because I don't want to have to spend that kind of money on "okay" food. Sorry if I didn't have the balls to tell your manager in person. I guess I feel it best that the owner/manager read this and address the changes directly to their staff. Please take this as constructive criticism. But all in all, three stars means you are doing good. You have potential and time to get your customers back. You just need to reassure us consistency. My friend never told me this was about noodles only and I was surprised seeing their 2 page menus mostly drinks. I kept looking at their food selection...where is it??? oh boy, front page only my dear that says ....RAMEN. I was really hungry at that time since it was 8:30 pm and I am not really a fan of noodles either. Ordered the pork belly bao as our appetizer...Oh boy!! how can you pay $7 only and the plate looked like your dining on a high-end style. I was really impressed! Next, belly bowl noodles and was amazed that what's in it was pork belly which was my fav too. I loved it!! CONS: 1) No front desk to check in and that means you gotta wait for the servers to get you. We waited between 5-8 minutes not knowing whom are we gonna talk to since the servers kept passing us by many times. Worst of all, at least one of the 3 Bartenders could have at least smiled at us and acknowledged our presence and inform us that someone will be seating us shortly. After seeing many people post about Lucky Belly, my girlfriend and I finally had the chance to eat here. I must say it was just as good as I was imagining while looking at the posts lol! My girlfriend started with the Pork Belly Bao and I had the Lamb Lumpia. I was looking for the Duck Lumpia but I guess it's a dinner item? That's ok, gives me a reason to come back. The Pork Belly Bao was delicious, but I should've asked for a little more hoisin sauce. As for the Lamb Lumpia, oh gosh, it was perfect. There was only a hint of that "gamey" taste and then a kick at the end. It was served with a bowl of sauce which was not needed. Now on to the main course. I ordered the Belly Bowl and boy was I surprised when it was brought to our table! The bowl was as big as my head, if not bigger. It was topped with pork belly, a sausage (I forgot what kind), bean sprouts, seaweed and a soft boiled egg. The bowl was overall delicious but the pork belly could use a little more flavor and the broth was a little salty. The highlight of the bowl was that god-like soft boiled egg. I say that's the only way to eat eggs, YOLKY! My overall experience at Lucky Belly was awesome! Food was great, service was top notch and surrounding was comfortable. I've done takeout from the restaurant and also grabbed food from the late night window. Both times, amazing food. And then I finally went to dine-in with a friend. They don't take reservations so be prepared for a little wait. We went around 730 on a Friday night. She got there first, put our name in and then we went and grabbed a drink at Down Beat. They called her when the table became available. How cool is that? Drinks: I ordered a sloe gin fizz and it was light and refreshing and yummy. Forget what my friend got but it was good too. Food: Pork belly bao, lobster shumai, oxtail dumplings, and Oriental chicken salad. We ordered a little too much. We were both famished. But we took the leftovers home and I got to eat it for lunch. The holidays are around the corner, and Lucky Belly is on it! My last date night at Lucky Belly was filled with rich and full flavors. Duck breast tataki (kabocha puree with pear & raisin chutney), the special sirloin appetizer (not on menu), lobster shu mai (meyer lemon beurr), with a Belly Bowl to share. The Bentley (a frothed whisky sour) was, as our server described, as the Holidays in a Glass. Topped off the dinner with that Thanksgiving feeling of satisfaction. I had not previously had the Belly Bowl and it was greatly improves the flavor from the Lucky Bowl. The ambiance is one of the highlights of the experience. "Feels like I'm in LA... but I'm in Chinatown," said one friend. Reservations are wise in the peak dinner hours. Lunchtime escapes are wonderful at Lucky Belly, a nice stress-busting break from the day, but you must be present to put your name on the list. read more

We came here before going out in downtown and again I was super excited for the food. We had gyoza for starters and the belly bowl. The gyoza was served with mushy edamame which was a nice addition to the pot stickers. I would order that again. However when we got the ramen, it was good but it wasn't hot. I didn't have to blow on the noodles before eating. That's no way to have ramen if it's meant to be hot! It is nice and trendy inside and the staff were really helpful, but the ramen. Gotta get that ramen right if that's your main dish. Oh the ramen comes in a huge bowl but it's misleading, it's not a bigger portion. Just a bigger bowl. Now that Chinatown is redoing it's self, you'll find this ramen, not so ramen shop where the old mini garden use to be....*sigh....(sorry, im still coping with the loss) Pretty well stocked bar with not so much seating, but once you try the food, and experience the great service this place will have you coming back. I will say, the buns are delicious! highly recommend that, but not soo much on the spring rolls. Like my tip said aswell, the menu from lunch & dinner differ. Wouldn't recommend the spring rolls. It was just lacking in flavor. i was really excited because of duck, but that was just not savory....tasty if you will. The ramen...now this big buddah bowl comes out and you look and think ohh big bowl, small portion WRONG! i could barely put half of this bad boy away. I had the lucky bowl which doesn't come with meat but still delicious. My friends kept raving how great the egg was, im honestly not a huge boiled egg fan so my opinion in this case is voided from this post. It was hott & tasty, maybe even a little too salty, but ask the server for some chili oil & that changes the whole game. I was so happy to stop at this place on the last day I spent in Oahu. This place rocks! The staff is super friendly and attentive which makes this place stand out. The establishment is decorated with a modern touch. The food was good in general but some of it seemed like it could improve. I tried the lobster shu mai, oxtail dumplings, pork belly bai, and the lucky bowl. The shu mai was okay but I felt it was lacking in depth. The oxtail dumpling was filled with meat yet didn't have much more to it. The bak was on point and very good; get this. The food is good, but what really stands out is the uncommonly great service. Staff is very friendly, efficient, and they really seem to care about serving their customers. Owners were mingling with the patrons as well. Nothing like a true feeling of gratitude for patronizing their business. I hope they do well. Despite being busy and fairly packed we were able to snag a table quickly on a Saturday night. Hubby and I shared: shishito peppers = yum shrimp gyoza = hearty chunks of shrimp, very tasty, but price was a little steep for 3 gyoza (I think it was $7). Whatever that green stuff was in the sauce was very good. bao buns = the pickle was a nice touch. beast bowl = I like ramen although I very rarely will go somewhere and order ramen. LOVED the fact that we ordered one to share and didn't get any attitude like you sometimes can get when you want to share something that is typically an entree for one. After all, I wanted to try a bunch of things on my first visit! First off, the broth is wonderfully rich and creamy. The goodies inside: brisket, oxtail wontons, and veggies were spot on. The out of the box liquor choices are also a nice touch. Hubby tried a Japanese beer he had never heard of, brewed with lactose, very dark, that he enjoyed. We wanted to try something local for a night out and found a great bar that also happens to live up to its namesake by providing excellent food too. they have a solid selection of of rum and also a solid selection of ramen. pairing the two is more art than science. read more

Food is great. But when you have a huge cockroach problem... you got bigger problems. I can hear all day long that ' it's Hawaii and that's what you get' ... no. You don't go into a restaurant of this caliber and expect to see 5 roaches running around in your 2 hour stay. That was one occasion. And that was the last. We live in a building that sprays regularly and mostly if you keep up with spray and cleanliness you don't have this issue. This place has a BIG problem. At first I was skeptical about this place, thinking it's more of a bar than a restaurant. I came with my mother and we were seated right away. The music isn't that loud and the atmosphere wasn't too bar-like so for non-drinkers like us it was welcoming. We had a special with 3 appetisers together, the lobster shumai, oxtail dumpling, and duck bao. The lobster shumai was the best then the duck bao, oxtail dumpling was OK. Then we had the lucky ramen and we split one. It was pretty filling and it tasted like tantan miso flavor? Then we ordered a lamb lumpia and it was amazing as well. Only con from this place was the green tea costed $3, but they kind of said "oh I will get you some tea" right when we walked in with water, so we thought it would be complementary. Overall, the service was amazing, pretty fast paced, and food was great. Our favorite was the lobster shumai followed by the lamb lumpia. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for some exotic asian fusion food. read more

Absolutely loved everything about our experience at this restaurant. I called ahead and tried to make a reservation on a Saturday night. It was politely explained to me that the restaurant was fully booked but walk-ins would be welcomed and accommodated on first-come first-serve basis. After arriving we waited about 10 minutes and then seated at the bar. Drinks came right after and delicious appetizers followed. Pork belly bao is must have but lobster shumai were my favorite. My husband and I shared the beets salad and a bowl of Lucky Belly ramen. The ramen bowls a huge!!! I don't think I could have finish a whole bowl all by myself. Tasty broth and meats! read more

I really liked my first visit here. It had a really nice hip vibe. Let's just say female staff was attractive. The pork bao was really flavorful. The pork belly had a nice crunchy exterior. Lucky Belly was amazing, it was a small space but didn't feel overcrowded. We were seated at the bar and ordered 4 appetizers and the wife had a beer. The bartender spoke to her for some time about the different beers and flavors and was very knowledgable. The Pork Belly Bao came out first and was absolutely delicious. The sauce was amazing and it had the perfect amount of pork belly to bao. Next came the Shrimp Gyoza, I was impressed with how the dish was not salty or heavy, and the edemame and avocado puree was great! The we got the lamb lumpia, and again I was impressed with lumpia that was not salty or heavy, and the pepper and jang coulis was spicy and relish! Last was the duck breast tataki. They absolutely saved the best for last! The duck was a lukewarm temperature which highlighted the duck flavor and the pear & raisin chutney was to die for!! YUMM! We will be back!! read more

Ever in Chinatown and don't know what to eat, this is a must place to try out. This place is located on the corner of N. Hotel Street. You can't miss it because you will see a Lucky pig belly sign. When you first walk in it seemed to be very small but when your eyes and look around it was very open. You notice the staff who seems to be very friendly and open. There is a bar area that you may sit at which is open seating. If you don't mind waiting you may get a table. Waiting time can run anything from 15-45 minutes wait. Its worth it though! Drinks here is kind of pricy, but you pay for what you get. Its all good. The food is awesome. They are known for the pork belly after all. The pork belly buns are a must try. Very ono. Lucky Belly has delicious food that will fill your belly! Been here several times, once for the pupus and this last time for lunch. And during both times we really enjoyed our food. For lunch we had the pleasure of eating the Shrimp and Kimchee ramen and the Lucky Bowl ramen, along with the Pork Belly bao and the special of the day....Mahimahi with micro greens, mash potato with veggies, and a shrimp gyoza. I'm not the biggest fan of ramen... (something that happens when your dad wants to eat it every day as a kid.) However, I knew that Lucky Belly had more than just ramen so I was keen to try it. The reason it took so long to try this place had more to do with their popularity and me not being patient enough so it took us til yesterday to get here. We got there right at 5pm and were sat at the bar. I've been eyeing their pork belly bao so we got that right off to start. I thought it was really tasty, but I thought there wasn't enough acid to counter act the bun and the pork belly. There were cucumbers in there, but I could have done with some green onions or something added to it. Hubby got a ramen and I got two more appetizers as my meal. I tried the lamb lumpia and the oxtail dumplings. Again, I found myself with both items wanting something vinegary or more acid to break the very meaty tastes in both dishes. I don't think I'd order the lumpia again. Lamb was ok, but the egg roll... it is just that... an eggroll and not that exciting. The oxtail dumplings were so big, I wished they had made them a bit smaller and more bite size. And I wish they had even served some kimchee or something vinegary instead of the hot mustard creme which wasn't that hot even. All in all I'd go back for the pork belly bao. Not sure if my expectations were too high but the rest of the stuff I had was just ok. Didn't blow me away... but like I said... I'm a big fan of their pork belly bao. read more

This place hits the spot! Short and sweet dining menu with a complex and interesting drink menu. They do an Aviation cocktail, and they do it perfectly and are very accommodating. Many interesting cocktails and good wine and beer selection. The ramen is fantastic and is the best I've had outside of Japan, and nearly as good as the best ramen I had in Japan, all four times I've been here!!! The appetizers are good, too. Lamb lumpia and lobster shu mai, oh my! Lovely. The place is really high on cool factor but even if you're not part of the "cool kids" crowd (is that what people are calling hipsters these days? ha ha :P), they don't make you feel like trash or unwelcome like they do at many other places with as hip of a vibe as Lucky Belly. One time I went when I had enough food left for takeout that happened to be mostly noodles, the sweet waitress gave me extra broth to take home in the broth container. One last noteworthy thing: THE KITCHEN IS ACTUALLY OPEN UNTIL THE PLACE CLOSES! No more needing a late night meal after a super long shift and hectic day and a traffic-clogged drive to Honolulu to be turned away because "the kitchen is closed!" an hour and 15 minutes before actual closing. read more
