We had pretty good experiences with takeout here prior to the other day. I ordered 2 combination plates, 2 orders of rice, crab rangoon and a box of chicken fingers. Total came to over $90, I'm sure glad I asked for a receipt because he never told me the total before swiping my card. The chicken was mostly breading and not worth the price they charged for it. After calling back to see if they charged me the wrong amount the gentleman was really rude on the phone and told me a box of rice costs $12.95 - their website says $10.95. I've been going/ordering lucky house for the past 30 years. Since they were in the granite shopping center in westerly. Tonight is my last order. After I left a $13 tip for the delivery person they showed up with their daughter ringing our doorbell several times trying to guilt me into more $$. I have been going to Lucky house since I was a little girl when it was located in Westerly and it has been consistent and great ever since offering large portions. They have the best won ton soup (filled with veggies/meat) sweet and sour chicken (and chicken fingers - I always get the sauce on the side) pork fried rice and egg rolls. If I could give negative stars, I would. First off the woman who answered the phone basically gave me an attitude and told me what I was trying to order rather than what I actually wanted, even though it was incorrect. I simply wanted to order a General Taos combo meal with egg fried rice, and a mix vegetable meal with white rice. When my husband got home with the order, the mixed vegetable meal (which was listed under VEGETARIAN on the menu) was basically a bunch of chicken (which is MEAT) with bean pods, mushrooms, and celery. Not mixed vegetables at all. l was not pleased to see chicken mixed in with my meal. So I called and let them know that I got the wrong order and they said to come back and they would give me the correct one. The second helping comes back, and it just a small white take out container filled with soggy celery, a few mushrooms, and water chestnuts mixed in a bland clearish brown sauce. The white rice that accompanied it was still hard, definitely not cooked through and sadly disappointing. The other meal we ordered, General Taos with egg fried rice and boneless spare ribs, was so awful he couldn't even finish it. First off, it was not egg fried rice. Just got home with my take out and decided to check yelp to see what other people had to say... I'm honestly shocked to see so many 5-star review. Maybe cause it's a small town? Anyway, I ordered garlic chicken And the chicken looks like it was the little end pieces they couldn't use in any other dish. There wasn't much of said chicken I was able to find amongst all the bland Gray colored veggies. The chicken taste like it was cook 2 days ago and reheated. I also ordered veggie lo mein which was basically sprouts and a huge amount of canned mushrooms and water chestnuts. No flavor no color. The side of veggies were bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, celery, canned mushroom, and a few snow peas in brown goo. I had to take a picture. The scallion pancakes probably would have been good if the sauce wasn't carelessly thrown into the Box, spilled, and soaked into them making them soggy and completely inedible. Ok so I didn't actually rate any of the food in my last review. So here goes it. The last time I ate here, it was with a large group of people. Mostly kiddies. So the fried foods and the apps were ok. Nothing to write home about. Now I usually get things cooked here that are NOT on the menu. They are great at accommodating us. But I ordered a dish that came out very very disappointing and I was quite embarrassed because we had invited the other family. The dish was supposed to be the twice cooked pan fried seafood noodle dish. Instead of the yellow egg noodles , it was served with ramen noodles. RAMEN NOODLES! I was mortified!! And luckily it wasn't another Asian family with us or else they would have instantly noticed. I would have totally understood if this place had told me that they don't have those noodles. I would have ordered something else. It's like ordering a dish with mushrooms only to bite into disgusting tinny canned mushrooms. Another disappointing dish here is the pan fried dry broad noodles with beef. (Gawn chao gnau hoah - Cantonese pronunciation) The color to it is almost unappetizing. They load it up with like 2 fistfuls of bean sprouts. And because of the overall grey color to the whole dish, you can't even pick out all of the bean sprouts. They've successfully camouflaged them. Also the beef is not tender at all. I'm pretty sure that in all my life these had been the biggest chunks of beef in a Chinese dish ever. Not in a good way. Remember people, it's supposed to be thin sliced. Like paper. With an almost buttery melt in your mouth texture. You can spend a good minute eating just one piece of that beef. This dish is usually my go to dish at Americanized Chinese takeout restaurants. This place is a big no no for me. read more

At one time this was our absolute favorite Chinese restaurant. I'd love to know what happened. The last 2 times we got takeout,the food was barely edible. Well.... I'll be damned. Stopped here on the way home from a road trip and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this food was. Our group got the orange chicken dish, broccoli and chicken, white rice, and crab rangoons. We were expecting usual mall junk food fare but were actually impressed by the quality of the meal. Of course none of these dishes are traditional but for fake american chinese food it was really good. The orange chicken was whole chunks of white meat chicken lightly breaded and fried in a creamy sweet hint of orange sauce and the jasmine rice was still a little wet and had a fresh taste. The Broccoli with chicken was tossed in a light soy sauce and the chicken was actual strips of chicken not the usual questionable pieces tossed in in some other places. The only confusing thing about the dishes was the amount of white rice they served as a side. It's about 5:1 ration of chicken to spoonful of rice. I guess for hard core carnivores this is great but I like my rice and I like a lot of it. Probably best to order an additional side if you want to make more of a rounded ( oval maybe? there's no vegetables) meal. Price wise they were around medium-- somewhere between 6-10 dollars for a plate but the portions were huge! We ordered the small version of each of our plates and still had left overs to share. If you choose to get a large of any of the dishes make sure your planning to share with the table. The service was friendly and prompt. They filled our water glasses about every gulp or so which is both awesome and annoying when you know you have another 4 hour car ride ahead of you. read more

Lucky House has been a staple of our community in Southern RI. As a child growing up I was awarded for getting Honor Roll grades with a meal (usually pupu platter & more) from or at Lucky House. The restaurant has moved since then, and now as an adult I visit often for a family meal or have a few drinks at their amazing bar. They sport the BEST Duck Sauce on Earth, dark brown and sweet-also HOMEMADE. My brother who has moved to GA makes it a dedicated stop when he/his family visit us in RI-ALWAYS purchasing extra duck sauce to take home with them. The owners are always out front and tending to customers. Excellent food, amazing drinks, and a remarkable staff. I am a life-long customer of Lucky House, & "Luckily" for me, I now live within a 2 minute drive from this amazing establishment. Yes, it is "American" Chinese Food-and that's why it is amazing. We have been wanting to try this place and finally were able to once they reopened during the quarantine. Currently there are not many Asian places opened so this place gets busy! We called around 4:30pm on a Sunday and requested to pick up for 6pm which was not a problem. Prior to this, we called around 630pm on a Friday and never got past a busy tone though we tried for over 20 minutes! We ordered Walnut Shrimp which was delicious and also had pineapple in it. The beef teriyaki was good and szechun diced chicken had a good flavor but lacked veggies. We also had the Crab Rangoons which were delicious and their duck sauce was great too! They were the triangle shaped ones which I usually don't care for but these were well cooked and tasty! I also got their fried dumplings which were good and their dipping sauce was more on the vinegar side. The house hot mustard is good and their white rice is fine-nothing out of the ordinary. Not one of my favorite Chinese restaurants but satisfactory. The only reason we come here is for the House Fried Rice, it's delicious. They load the Rice with pork, chicken, large shrimp, and vegetables. It is a perfect meal all in one. With all that protein, you feel full with just this one dish and they pack the containers so full you can get at least 4 large servings out of one container, easily enough to satisfy a family of 2 adults and 2 children. read more

I have two Chinese food restaurants closer to me, but I make the trek here because it is worth the drive. This place has excellent food and extremely attentive service. The owner can always be seen "in the trenches" helping his employees by taking orders, making drinks, delivering food, etc. There are not many restaurants left that actually provide a value for your dollar, but this place does. The staff should be very proud of this hidden gem! Try the espresso or tiramisu martinis (they offer many drink specials in addition to a hefty Chinese restaurant standard drink list). We have been trying to find a good Chinese restaurant ever since The Oceanview in Narragansett closed. That place had the best chinese food we've ever eaten! When the Westerly Sun published this year's Reader Choice Awards, we decided to try out the winners. I was so hopeful walking in to Lucky House, it's a nice big place with very friendly staff. The wide crispy noodles I love were served with three different sauces. I was optimistic! When the food came, we tried each dish but how disappointing. We decided we couldn't even say they weren't good-they were really bad! The beef lo mien was tasteless, the spicy chicken had a nasty vinegar-y after taste, the Szechuan chicken tasted like the chicken had been microwaved and thrown into the mix. I don't know how else to describe how awful the pieces of chicken were. We had four choices and none of them was even acceptably ok. There was only one other party next to us (Thursday at noon), they ordered lots of fried rice, chicken tenders, beef on a stick. Maybe this restaurant earned its second place status based on those (non) Chinese dishes? Why doesn't Southern RI have a good chinese restaurant? Our search for a good one continues! read more

Went to Lucky House tonite with family to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation and on our way out, we were almost hit by the delivery boy & his girlfriend ( they were in the car ) and they yelled "whore" at me, my daughter, my Aunt & Uncle. Not sure what kind of people Lucky House has working for them, but that will be the last time any of us go there! We told the owner and he did apologize but didn't do anything else. I have been around the world and back and have yet to find a better Chinese place than my beloved Lucky House. I'm not just saying this because I'm from the area, word is born, this is the best Chinese place on the planet! Everything on the menu is delish, the portions are HUGE and the prices are cheap! Seriously who could ask for more? My favorite plates are the chow mein (the yummy vegetables in the gravy and noodles are to die for), the boneless spare rips (the meat is tender and the sauce is sweet without being overbearing), General Tso's chicken (the white meat chicken is deep fried just right ) and the sauce is sweet and tangy. The beef teriyaki is just the right amount of sweet and salty. The balance of the favors in all the dishes is just perfect, and unfortunately every Chinese place Ive ever been to fails in comparison. See update below after second visit. 1st visit/ Nice surprise to find a great Chinese restaurant nearby. Neighbors recommended and we will be back. Ordered soups which were delicious and such big portions at dinner. They surely looked and tasted fresh and homemade. Main courses we ordered combo dinners and was enough for dinner and then lunch the next day. Delicious for sure. Next visit will order from regular menu and get brown rice to cut down on the overall calories be avoiding egg roll and fried rice. Only place for improvement is more help. Marie was fantastic but one waitress for that huge place including a party of 20 coming in just after we is a bit much for one person to handle. She was so nice and friendly and very helpful. Our service was great. Just not fair to the help. Our second visit was very disappointing. Chicken and Garlic was all veggies and a few tidbits of chicken and chicken chow menu was all crispy noodles which should a few be tossed on top. dumplings were chewy, rice was good but meat was horrible. considering you pay for the protein i wouldn't pay for it again. even if the rice was good. when trying different Chinese food restaurants having a good fried rice is so key but if the chicken and beef are chewy and have a bad flavor to them, it doesn't matter. for the price it's not worth it. much cheaper places with the same quality. haven't dined in though only take out so i can't speak about the service or the ambiance. although when you walk inside it feels a bit chaotic when you take a first glance. and they don't seat people inside until dinner service. read more

Meat so grizzly couldn't eat. 3 wontons in the entire soup, (large order); did not eat... chicken fingers and something - greasy to the max. chicken was "stringy" when biting into - did NOT eat this dinner entry further. Beef and snowpeas: beef was grizzly, and when I tasted it, it was bad - there was something askew with this more than just not tasting good. Again, didn't eat this dinner entry.
