I bought this July 9th. I usually never check expiration dates on products because I trust the store. I took it to work and even though it was a little chunkier than normal I had some. Today I noticed the expire date was June 28th. This is surprising because Luckys is better than to let expired products on the shelves. I will not shop at Lucky again I avoid Pacific Grove like you like the plague and unfortunately Sand city's employees are catching the same. You're a nuisance vibe. I could go into details. I usually buy my groceries from this store, I like the inventory they offer. But customer service has really hit rock bottom. Shopping the morning of 7/26/25. I was at the self-check which easily freezes until you get assistance. Unfortunately, there is seldom anyone around that can assist and you end up waiting to get the machine cleared when it would have been easier to go through the long lines at the checkouts. That said, yesterday was really upsetting as I was in self check a gentleman was in the station next to me. He was hearing impaired and his machine froze as mine did. We looked at each other with sympathy as we waited for someone to help us both. No one came, and I ended up grabbing my groceries to wait in line. He did that same after another wait and as I was walking out I overheard the clerk on telling him over and over that the machines had been working fine all morning. As if it was HE that had the issue. Furthermore, the clerks were so distracted while talking to each other they didn't make eye contact, offer to help bagging to get the line moving or any acknowledgment that a customer was in front of them other that stating the total cost at the end. I shop at this particular store because it's within walking distance. Not that I walk just saying it's close. They have their 5 for $25 which I take full advantage. The problem is they DO NOT put STICKERS on everything that's $5! I would say about 98% of the items don't have a sticker! I TRY to purchase items with a sticker but sometimes it's just impossible to find a sticker on items. This last time was the straw that broke the camels back. I've learned to put the 5 for $25 LAST on the belt so I can make sure I get the correct price. This time of course they didn't come up for the correct price. I TRIPLE check to make sure I'm buying the CORRECT ITEMS! I look at the total and tell him the $5 price didn't come up. He informs me everything needs a STICKER! I started to pull everything that's in the 5 for $25. He tells me and then the guy bagging my groceries tell me I need to have STICKERS! One item had 2 stickers! The rest didn't have stickers. I asked do you really want me to go show you? They both looked at me like I had 2 heads and reiterated that they need to have stickers. At that point, I said you know what never mind and I was getting ready to leave and then the cashier said no wait. OK we'll get you the price but you need to go over to customer service. So the guy starts ringing me up and tells me this one has the sticker so I'll just charge you for all these ones and not the other ones. I said I don't know who is supposed to put the stickers on the items but they need to be fired because 98% of the time they don't have stickers. This isn't the first time this has happened but I'm OVER THIS STORE! Yes, I did fill out their customer service form. The other thing they raise the price and put the item on "SALE" but it's NOT really on "sale". I don't care for Safeway up the street but I think I'll shop there from now on! read more

Ever since we moved to the area in 2019, I've really liked Lucky. However, something has changed in the last year or two. I'm wondering if they got bought out by Kroger or another company that seems to ruin stores. Their inventory is always low. It doesn't matter when I go in there, it's always low. I can't buy normal Rold Gold pretzels there. I tried to buy a several pound brisket or pot roast. The only ones they had were 1-2 pounds. The guy in the meat dept told me people around there are all old and don't eat very much, so they cater to their clientele. What was I? I could go on and on, but now they're remodeling and half the shelves are empty and the others don't seem to be put in a place that makes sense. Couldn't find the soup yesterday. It's in the detergent aisle now. Makes no sense. This is a store that could carry more gourmet items and sell them, but since I have to go to another grocery store to get all the things I couldn't get at Lucky, I'm just changing stores completely, which I'm sorry to do. read more

I made the bad choice of going in here again and whoever's packaging the meat is charging the customer gross weight ....that is they're charging the price of the meat plus the weight of the packaging. And what's important here is the tare weight is displayed right on the label and it wasn't tared to zero. They charged me for everything. IT WAS NOT TARED TO ZERO. Unbelievably beyond this the soaker (that is, the little padded material under the meat on top of the Styrofoam) contained half a pound of water. I weighed the meat alone and it came out to about 3/4 of a pound under what it claimed on the package. This is illegal and I think I'm going to make a report. It makes me wonder if they're watering down their meat before they put it into the package. The meat I bought was advertised as fresh, nothing about frozen. In other words, it's not like the meat thawed and dripped water into the soaker. Unless the meat actually was frozen, but then that would be false advertising. ILLEGAL. read more

Fantastic customer service at checkout like. It was about 9:00 PM on Wednesday night, and the checker helped me figure out the discounted price, he was very patient, waaay more so than you'd expect from a young 20-something guy. Always friendly staff that go above and beyond! Cannot understand the poor reviews, it's a grocery store not Bloomingdale's. I do shop the deals and save doing so. All prices are up everywhere, it's the economy and will continue to rise. It's not the employees that set the prices.i have also placed some special orders, which have gone smoothly, as well. The employees I see regularly are phenomenal and it is nice to see the consistency. Someone mentioned the parking spots were tight, they are standard parking spots, which are the same size throughout this strip mall. We were staying nearby in Monterey and needed some hydrating beverages for our room. This is my first foray into a Lucky California and I admit I was excited. I appreciated the "healthy" offerings -- a variety of kombucha drinks, a juice press, much larger produce section than what my local regular Lucky has -- but it was so hard for me to find where they stock the refrigerated single bottles of Gatorade, water, etc. It seems I just came upon row after row of wine and alcohol. Parking was ample, but watch out for that entrance if your car is lowered. read more

Ok - so I have to update my rating from 2015. The store was not a Lucky back then, but rather a Save Mart. Since changing the branding (same chain, different name), they've made some positive improvements. Gone is the fishy or bleach smell as you enter the store. The store is clean and the employees, while scarce and busy, are friendly. The shelves are well stocked and they have a larger selection of everyday items than most of the other small stores in the immediate area. Produce is fresh. While the deli is not huge, they have most of everything I have needed. I love the bakery. Their bagels, English muffins and cakes are very good for a supermarket bakery. I have not and will likely not purchase seafood here when there are so many local options to buy fresh. I have bought both pork and beef porterhouses from Lucky (buy one get one free specials). The pork was excellent. I would not buy the beef again. All in all, it's a decent option and will likely have most anything you need. read more

Went to pick my son up at lucky and grab a couple things. When I get in the store to meet him, I see him putting his backpack in the front of the store because the employees told him he had to. We walk around the store and I see a white teenager with a backpack on. Why was my not white son told he had to leave his up front? As we are checking out, I ask why this other kid was allowed to have his and the cashier's demeanor completely changed with me. He became short and snappy, informing me they make all teens leave their backpacks up front. I point to the white kid and the man said he would have told him had he seen him.... Reading these Yelp reviews really upset me. People in PG have a bit less respect for others and a touch more self-entitlement than most. Luckys is great. Its employees get paid minimum wage. That's gotta be tough for anyone. We all deserve more. I'm amazed we even still have grocery stores that are clean and well stocked in 2020. My criteria for 5 stars is all right there. If you get paid minimum wage and have to work through a pandemic because our government won't step in to properly support you, I believe you have the right to be a tad rude when serving me. I shop here a fair amount, and I am satisfied. It can be a bit hard to find items; better aisle labelling would help. I am quite put off by their buy-one-get-one-free meat specials, as the meat is apparently marked up for these so much that they represent no real savings, just a larger buy (or inflated price if you only have room for one). Other specials that advertise the price instead of just BOGO can be quite good deals. I have noticed that sale prices are not always marked on package, but I keep an eye out, and they show up correctly at the register. The store smells better than it did a few years ago. The produce is good, if somewhat pricey (who isn't these days?). I always find adequate parking near the store. The staff, though sometimes scarce, have been helpful and friendly. Generally I find checkout less of a wait than at, say, Safeway just up the hill. In my view there are an abundance of overly harsh reviews for this Lucky here on Yelp. They aren't perfect, but they are much better than that! read more

The sign says sandwiches are freshly made. When I opened it to eat it, the roll was very wet/soaked. When I complained, they pulled another one out of the case, so the sandwiches are NOT freshly made. The food is not good, and the restaurant is dirty. Eat somewhere else! read more

I have been going here since i was in high school in the Albertsons and Save Mart days. I always use the self check out line(Because it is is faster) I went there to get a large amount of groceries so i used the regular check out. Each person looked like they hated it there. Ever since they remodeled the store I have avoided going there. The layout doesn't make sense. I think the layout is designed to keep you in the store browsing the aisles so that you spend more money. As far as I am concerned, their trick backfired: I am doing most of my shopping at Trader Joe's and Safeway (though Safeway has its own challenges). Lucky's bakery is not up to par. You would think that a major store would be able to stock a reasonable quality whole grain bagel. Well no. They tried to produce a fair quality whole grain bagel and they were not able to do it, so now they don't stock them at all. Kind of "screw you if you want a good selection of bagels." business tactic. The meat counter has a fair amount of items but the tall guy who thinks he is funny keeps me from going there and spending my money. It's always some stupid joke from him. The tellers, well... some are pretty good but the majority are sullen and barely make the grade on customer service. I used to spend most of my grocery money there but nowadays I only go there when they have a particularly low price and I buy only that item. read more

I was in the store 3/23/21 and these cockroaches sold me some * CRS rib steak choice" for "buy one get one free" apparently. As I have reviewed my recite it shows I was fully charged for both ( the cheaper one costing $15.25). Unfortunately I don't do buisness like a uneducated caveman and check my receipts. This is my go to grocery store. I think it's the best one we have here in Pacific Grove. The prepared food section is really good. My favorite is there sushi. I remember I tried it about a year ago and I was actually really surprised at how good it was. It's really inexpensive to. They have some good sandwiches and a good deli too. Just witnessed another terrible fail by the staff of this store, including the manager. A fellow before me in the checkout line found a discrepancy on his receipt, only a few cents, but it was a store error. The guy was as nice as he could be, as direct and polite as any normal person on their way home from work. Yet when he left, without the several cents they owed him by the way, the checkers, baggers and even manager all continued to talk loudly in front of their customers about what a jerk the guy was. It was suggested he not come back to the store, if he was going to act like that. This store is a truly awful place to shop, and please pardon me complaining, I was sent there by a friend. I'll never go involuntarily. The staff is bitter, angry, and underqualified even for supermarket work. read more
