Friends and family gathered to make this a truly memorable occassion in this lovely place. Located on a main street in Avila Beach, the Community Center is behind the Post Office. Since virtually everything in Avila is relatively new, this is a bright modern and very functional space with a lovely view from the back balcony. There is a large parking lot below, which is hampered a bit by some ongoing construction. As someone who coordinated a huge social event in the county for half a decade, I can really appreciate the facilities available here to the public. There is a large kitchen with a pass through to the main room, there are tables and chairs available, and bathrooms off a small side hall. The banquet/meeting room also has AV equipment available for rent if desired. The multi-purpose room holds up to 150 people depending on the use. The rates vary from $50-$60 per hour, and there is a security deposit as well as a cleaning fee, which also vary depending on usage. You don't have to live in Avila Beach to use this facility. You can get a discount by joining the Avila Beach Civic Assocation, and being a member for one year to obtain 25% off the fees. I attended as a guest, and really enjoyed the guests, the fresh sea air, and beautiful weather at Avila, as well as the gorgeous sunset as the event wound down. We brought the food in, and had snacks for the kids as well as a custom birthday cake in the shape of the Mercat Gabby, evidently a kiddy favorite right now! The kids were well supervised and enjoyed being with each other, while the adults got to chat and enjoy the festivities.

They had a great program that was hosted by the talented Nia Wong of KCOY TV (Local Channel 12). This wonderful organization, sponsors, & volunteers, put on a diverse variety of performances (including the Traditional Lion Dance), served up tons of yummy food, & all had a great evening. We were honored guests, of a sponsor, the wonderful owner's of Golden Gong Chinese Restaurant on Madonna Road in SLO (Joann & Alex Chiang). Our table which we shared with another sponsor, Dr. Elisa Feingold (Central Coast Psychiatric Consultants on Philips Ln in SLO), had a prime view of all the various performances. The performances included: Ballet, Dancing, Singing, Piano playing, Violin playing, Drumming, & much more. The many performances done by the children & teens were both talented & often adorable (see pics to be posted. or look at pics already posted on the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum (Hall)on Yelp). Teen, Ms. Yian Xue, (who was at our table as a visiting exchange student from China, sponsored by Dr. Feingold) also put on a great performance in singing a Chinese Pop Song. The other children & teens played violins, a piano, drums, or danced their way into everyone's heart. Cal Poly Student's did an amazing job with the Lion Dance both on stage & then dancing among the audience to everyone's delight! The Auction was a hoot, especially when the tiny tots came up to claim a prize. More about CCCA From CCCA' website or their Facebook page: "The Central Coast Chinese Association (originally named the Chinese Professional Association -- CPA) was founded in 1980 by a group of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) faculty members as a non-profit organization. Its original goals were to promote alliance, brotherhood/sisterhood and mutual aid of the ethnic Chinese professionals and their families in the San Luis Obispo County and its vicinity, and to set as one of the Equal Opportunity Advisory bodies to the President of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, California. In the last thirty years, the CPA has played an important role within the Chinese community on the Central Coast for networking as well as member support. The Association has also been involved in a variety of civic projects and activities such as establishing scholarships at Cal Poly, contributing to the Salvation Army, participating in the San Luis Obispo International Festival, supporting the County Historical Museum, and donating a drinking fountain to the San Luis Obispo City library. Perhaps, the milestone event of the Association was to raise a sizable amount of funds to create the Iron Road Pioneers sculpture commemorating the tens of thousands of Chinese immigrant laborers here on the central coast in the mid-1860s. Most of these immigrants worked on the railroads that eventually opened up commerce for San Luis Obispo County to the international world. In addition, the Association has supported Cal Poly student clubs such as the Chinese Student Association and the Chinese Culture Club in promoting multicultural events. As a result of a growing community of Chinese influence on the central coast, both in and outside of Cal Poly, members of the Association voted unanimously to rename the Chinese Professional Association to simply the Central Coast Chinese Association (CCCA) in 2010.... Mission: To provide a platform for CCCA members to connect and build friendships; To support CCCA members' professional and social development; To honor and preserve the rich American Chinese history in Central Coast; To promote multi-cultural exchanges and create understanding in the global arena; To teach our children appreciation for different cultures; To engage in projects and activities that enhance cultural exchange and understanding"
