Can't believe I haven't added a review of one of our Cleveland favorites. This spot is truly a gem. We typically have lunch here, but have also enjoyed a few dinners. My wife cannot bypass the Mango Salmon. I love the Chorizo lunch and the Cuban sandwich. (Only available at lunch.) the grilled chicken at dinner is excellent. Honestly, lunch is their sweet spot. The dinner menu is a bit lean. They would do well to strengthen that offering. Nonetheless, this is an exciting place to eat. Pro Tip: try one of their boutique lemonade offerings. Some of the dishes were inconsistent when they came out. My cut of salmon was very slim, almost a sliver (especially for the price), but my friend's was a much bigger square cut. The salmon also wasn't very flavorful. We all needed to ask for a hot sauce and a ranch type of sauce to help doctor it up. This bird clearly did yoga, got a tan, and came to slay. Juicy, seasoned, and totally worth cheating on your usual boring meal prep with. Dessert? Plantains. Sweet, warm, and comforting like a hug from your abuelita. And healthy enough that I didn't feel bad having five. (They're fruit. It's fine.) The drinks are fresh, healthy, and so tasty that you almost forget they cost more than your last haircut. I even drank the kale one--willingly! We got the tostones with guacamole as an appetizer and that guac...literally so good. We came to Lulo's for dinner on a weekday evening -- the seating is in the basement since nobody was on the patio/ground level area. Staff members were quick to seat us once we went downstairs. There is a good amount of seating both downstairs and upstairs, though it was empty when we arrived so we got to sit anywhere! The menu has a good amount of appetizers, entrees and cocktails. We opted for two appetizers plus one entree to share. The empanadas were good and I enjoyed the crispy exterior, but the meat was a tad dry on the inside. The chorizo and patacones were very tasty and the pico de gallo was very refreshing (the empanadas came with pico de gallo as well) to pair with it. We ordered the carne asada as the entree, but they didn't have the skirt steak that evening, so they offered to swap it with churrasco's steak. The steak was very juicy and tender and came with rice, plantains, and a side salad. Definitely a shareable entree, but also probably a good size for one person without additional appetizers. For drinks, they had a ton of tasty options and I had a hard time deciding on just one drink. We enjoyed both the caipirinha and the key lime martini. Post concert next morning -now that I've had a little bit more time to think about it. The service here was majorly subpar. I think they had one waitress for the whole bar upstairs. Who knows about what was going on in the dungeon. I would like to add that two appetizers and three drinks cost us over $100, I don't know how long this place has been open, but I would be super surprised if it stayed that way they don't deserve to be. Tuesday' night and this place is completely empty. First it was hard finding this place as there was construction outside. Then when you find an entrance, its a bit confusing, you come inside, come to the stairs and there is a sign "wait to be seated' but there was nobody there. So went downstairs ourselves. My husband and I decided to eat at Lulo Cleveland for Valentine's Day after seeing lots of social media videos and hearing great reviews. Our reservation was for 6:30 PM, and we arrived at 6:15 PM to find a room full of other guests with the same reservation time. Despite it being a holiday, the way things unfolded was disappointing. It took forever to get seated, and people with later reservations who arrived after us were seated before us. Once we were finally seated, it took a long time for them to bring us water and take our drink and appetizer orders. After finishing our appetizers and drinks, we ordered our main courses and another round of drinks. It took over an hour and a half for our food to arrive. We asked three separate times where our food was, and other tables that were seated after us were already checking out. We tried to be patient since it was Valentine's Day, but seeing others get their food and leave before us was frustrating. We also noticed other diners leaving due to similar issues, some without receiving their food or drinks. While the food was good, the service was terrible. We ended up leaving around 10 PM. When we went to pay the $186 bill with a $100 Visa gift card and intended to cover the rest with my card, we were rudely informed they weren't accepting gift cards. The waiter was extremely rude and dismissive. Even after we paid, we were still waiting for our desserts to be delivered to our table. This was the worst dining experience we've ever had, and we wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We will not be returning. Update: They canceled my reservation even though I showed up, so now my card is going to be charged $25 per person, and my OpenTable account is going to get flagged. This was a horrible experience. They have a "downstairs" hidden scene. We also had a reservation at 9:00pm. We went to the "hidden" spot with the lights off, we called and customer service picked up and we asked multiple times to talk to the manager and when asked for my first and last name the man on the phone went radio silent. My husband and I made dinner reservations for 7:30 on a Friday evening. The waiting area is a tad confusing; you're suppose to check in upstairs before they escort you down the stairs. So, wait until you're greeted upstairs before you head downstairs. The atmosphere is very chic. We were seated at the table across from the stairs. I noticed throughout our time there that many people came immediately downstairs just to go up the stairs again. My personal opinion is there should be a clear sign upon entry to wait upstairs before being escorted down. Service was slow in the beginning; it was most likely due to the fact that there were multiple parties seated before us at the same time. Nevertheless, I counted about 5-6 working servers, 2-3 bartenders, and 1 very active hostess so that shouldn't be an issue. Our server, Miguel, took about 8 minutes to greet us and take our beverage order. The wait time when we were seated set precedent of the wait for food and drinks the entire evening. Because of that realization, we ordered our drinks and appetizer immediately, then our entree before appetizer even came out. Our drinks consisted of Caipirinha, Resurrection, and Mango Jalapeño Margarita. The food were empanadas, carne asada, and mango salmon. It took ~18 minutes for our 2 drinks to come out. We noticed the table who arrived around 10 minutes after us received their drinks before we did. I don't know the complexity of their drink order but we should've received ours prior to them. Our appetizer came out shortly after. The food and drinks were robust, and we enjoyed them all. The empanadas were flavorful and came out piping hot. We could've ordered another plate of it. The sweet plantains with the carne asada was a sweet treat of a salty and savory dish. The salmon and mango was also a great combination. The mango is a cold topper so don't expect the salmon to come out hot. We spend about $140 with 1 appe, 2 entrees, and 3 drinks. We came here after seeing the incredible decor on social media, but really wish that they had put more effort into making the food taste better than the ambiance of the place. Came to Lulo's Kitchen for the first time this past Valentine's day for a nice Date night in Cleveland. This was hands down the worst service I have ever experienced in my life and I have served at multiple restaurants in the past. First of all we were not greeted at the hostest stand for over 10 minutes, servers kept walking up to the desk then away without greeting us. We were sat 15 minutes late when we had a reservation. We were seated at a small table and the server didn't come greet us or take our drink order for 45 minutes. Then when the server came to the table he starred at his Ipad for 8 minutes before saying a word. He refused to let us order a Mocktail, simply said he could only make what was on the limited menu. We placed our order just to wait for another hour before I flagged someone else down letting them know our food had still not come out. 20 minutes later our appetizer and 1 entre was brought out. almost 10 minutes later the other entre was brought out. We were not supplied with silverware so we sat there for another 15-20 minutes without silverware, by that point our food was cold. Our server came to our table once in over 2 hours, no manager checked on us, and other servers aimlessly walking around never stopped to ask if we were waiting for food, silverware, anything. I am not one to complain however when I brought all of this to the attention of our server which I had to back to the hostess stand to find and speak to he just said sorry, took off the appetizer but there was an automatic 20% gratuity applied to the check for my wife and I which I would have liked to be the one to add or not add due to the absolute terrible service.
