If you haven't been here, it's been around since 1968, operated by Don Grieco Sr. sons, Don Jr. and Joe, for the past 50 years. when I walked in I was welcomed with open arms. Service here is so fun and amazing!! The duo behind the counter is funny and filled with laughter. We got the hotdog combo with fries which was good. The fries came out crispy and we also got their homemade chili which was pretty good. This is close to Tri-Taylor and the Illinois medical district so healthcare workers and other people come in and out all the time. There is seating inside and the food came out really quick! Being around and serving the community for over 50 years is something. They also have a nice Route 66 mural on the side. read more

I see LuLu's EVERYDAY heading to work and since I've been trying hot dogs around the city I couldn't wait to try this place. It's very clean inside. You can choose to eat indoors or outdoors. The Service was good. The gentlemen were very nice. But I came for the hot dogs. They have a daily hot dog special 2 hot dogs w/ fries $6.98 not bad so I got 2 Chicago hotdogs & a chili cheese dog w/ chopped onions. You would think that a hotdog spot wouldn't drop the ball on a Chicago dog. I mean how can you screw up Vienna Beef Hot Dogs? But these guys did. The bun was stale to start with. The ingredients weren't too good. The tomato wasn't fresh & the pickle spear??? Well it was a piece of pickle. They need to work on what they're putting out as their product. The chili cheese dog.... SMH the thing looked pitiful and to mention they didn't add the chopped onions I requested. The Chicago dog was so bad that I didn't even bother tasting the chili cheese dog (it didn't look appetizing) the fries however were great! Nicely salted, hot & fresh. Before I moved to Chicago when I would come to town, this was a must! It's got free parking, classic Chicago memorabilia, cool murals, and affordable and tasty classic burger spot food. My favorite thing about Lulu's beside the prices is the wide variety of food from bbq to dogs. Only thing I can say bad is that the food isn't spectacular, but it's fairly customizable to your preferences. read more

I was in Chicago with several friends for Riot Fest, and Lulu's just so happened to be right in between our Airbnb and the festival grounds at Douglass park. We passed Lulu's many times, with their bright, beguiling signs -- promises of fully loaded dogs and lunch special bargains. It was not long before two of our party fell prey to the hunger surges that follow a full day of music and beer (and when your food options are limited due to no re-entry!) Two of my friends managed to grab Lulu's while walking back from Riot Fest right when the gates weee being closed. In the first of many indications of Lulu's hospitality, they sated my two friends' desperate hunger with dogs and sodas on a lovely weekend night. I, upon the next morning hearing of their escapade, was immediately consumed with envy. I determined I would persue Lulu's posthaste, and indeed after confirming their hours with a phone call (Google said they were closed but they weren't) shortly henceforth found myself also darkening the doorstep of that fine establishment, Lulu's. I ordered the two dog lunch special with curly fries and a medium pop. Can I mention, full lunch and bev for pennies over $11 including all charges? That's a deal. I had my dogs fully loaded as per the Windy City style. The two men working behind the counter that day were both very kind and polite. They made me feel welcome at Lulu's. Located at a busy intersection, this place has tons of great hot dog options as well as burgers and so much more. I stuck with a veggie dog with fries, as well as a black bean burger. I bookmarked this restaurant sometime ago after seeing its character that looked similar to 1930's character Lulu featured on 'The Little Lulu Show' pictured on its building. Now living on the west-side of Chicago; prior to this visit I contemplated visiting Lulu's Hot Dogs for months since discovering how close I lived from it. In the area at the time of this visit, I researched restaurants only to find that Lulu's was within a mile which made it an option I chose for lunch. Lulu's has that takeout restaurant feel, yet there are an ample amount of tables & seats for dine-in which I didn't expect prior to visiting. During my visit I had no intentions on dining-in, but I did love that college football was being showcased on their televisions which was a plus, as I'am a die-hard college football fan. The menu at Lulu's consists of a range of hot-dogs & polish; burgers & sandwiches, fish, ribs, and even a small portion of veggie selections for vegans. Out of all featured on their menu I ordered the Catfish sandwich w/ fries despite the 2-Piece Perch Platter initially catching my eye. As for the food, the fries were decent! Eatable and also didn't make it out of the parking lot with me which is all I can ask for, hehe. And as for the Catfish sandwich, other than the sub-sandwich style bread being thick, the catfish was tasty. It probably would have been better with regular bread versus that sub-sandwich style bread, but that is my recommendation to Lulu's. As for the service, I have no complaints; it was smooth and I received my order in a timely manner, even though there weren't many customers ahead of me. I love Lulu's restaurant hours because it is open late enough for you to pick up late night takeout at a time when other restaurants are closed. Do I recommend, Lulu's Hot Dogs? Yes, indeed! **NOTE: This review is for my visit on October 28th, 2019, at which time Lulu's was transformed into the Nike's "Sport Changes Everything" pop-up** I came here to support my friend Monyett, who was teaching some beginner dance classes as part of the Nike "Sport Changes Everything" campaign. Nike installed a "Chicago Style" pop-up at Lulu's and featured several athletes at the pop-up. I've never been to Lulu's prior to the pop-up, so again, keep in mind that I have no idea what it looks like without the pop-up decorations. But man, Nike really did a number on this restaurant and TRULY made it Chicago style. Everywhere you could go was covered from ceiling to floor in Nike and Chicago memorabilia. It made me super warm and fuzzy inside; as a pure-bred Chicagoan that's lived in the same house at Belmont and Western all 26 years of my existence, the pop-up really encapsulated everything I love about this city. The parking lot was also transformed into a basketball court. There's a fantastic, colorful mural on the back wall that you can see in the photos I've attached. The basketball court itself is super colorful as well, and that's where the dance classes were held. Everyone attending the class got a free voucher for a meal, so I did get to try some of Lulu's food. I got the Chicago style hot dog, fries, and a drink: classic Chicago diner meal. It was great. Obviously you don't go to a spot like this in Chicago for gourmet hot dogs, so I wasn't expecting too much. Despite being so busy from the pop-up, service was quick and the hot dog itself was just Chicago hot dog perfection. Can't complain in that regard! If I'm in the area, I'll definitely make sure to check Lulu's out again even after the pop-up. But if you are reading this, the Nike pop-up is open at Lulu's until 11/4: go check it out and see everything for yourself! read more

The food is average. I tend to go to this place once every 6 months. That's about how long it takes for me to forget why I don't go there often. The staff is nice but they have this sarcastic way about themselves it's pretty annoying. I ordered a hot dog with fries. I walk 1 block back to my office and my food was cold and so was my workers. So they more than likely gave me warm food to begin with. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I stopped in "Lulu's" before my interview at the nearby neighborhood. Well, you know "Lulu's" sounds like a nice name for pets, or I should say, a Chicago-style dog that's tasty. I went for their "2 hot dog combo," which came with fries. For $5.25 plus tax (as of 02/21/2017), it was as good as I could get in the city. The only negative for me was the fries were a bit dry. However, with two (2) dogs in my belly, I was good to go. Apparently, "Lulu's" accepts credit cards, but there's an ATM in the dining room available just in case you like to keep some green bucks on hand. The service was super quick. I barely put my change away as the gentleman at the pick-up station called me and handed me the brown bag. Parking is also beyond plenty. "Lulu's" is located on the corner of Taylor and Ogden as part of the Illinois Medical District. It's further west from the popular Taylor St. "Little Italy" area. Looking for an affordable meal? This was the perfect place to go after a Blackhawk's game. Easy parking, plenty of space inside, and a large menu. Between two people we got an italian beef, 2 hot dogs with everything, and two orders of fries with cheese. Came out to $18 with a drink, so very reasonable priced!! Garbage! I knew this was a grease spot but most grease spots are decent if not good. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with fries and drink. I paid $7 and some change. I get into my car and drive off. As I get home, I see it's a grilled, non seasoned dry chicken patty. No flavor and it's quite disgusting. The lettuce looked like it was 2 days over it's expiration. The fries were bland with zero salt. The pop tasted like seltzer water. The people working their are more focused in making stupid, not so funny jokes with each other. You gotta be kidding me. A grilled barbecued turkey leg with a mountain of fries (and garlic bread) and a drink for less than $4.89. This is 2010, Baby, what's the catch? There is no catch! Ya' just gotta boogie down to Ogden Avenue. One of my jobs has me down in that neighborhood for long stretches on Saturdays. Today's breakfast was their 2 hot dogs (trimmings and fries) for $4.00. Perfect way to start the day. Dinner was this turkey leg dinner. Now I will try anything at a restaurant - anything. But the idea of a turkey leg meal for 4 bucks seemed too good to be true... or was it... I sat and waited for just a few minutes and was pleasantly surprised when I was handed my white Styrofoam container of heaven. This leg was succulent and delicious - not gamy and dry like a turkey can be. I - uncharacteristically - savored each bite (as opposed to wolfing it down like starving urchin). It was culinary highlight of 2010 (so far). The guys that run LULU'S are old-school guys from the neighborhood. They are polite and friendly - in a gruff kind of way. Everyone knows everyone and asks about the family. It is rare - these days - to be treated so well in a hot dog joint (except Donald Duk's on Ashland - but that is a different story) . These guys were like old buddies who were cooking your dinner. I have only one complaint is the seating areas has tables with affixed chairs - they do swivel out - but they are not built for tubby diners like myself. I had to do a little shimmy-shake to get into the comfort zone to enjoy my meal. They have regular specials - price busting deals - great service - awesome Chicago-centric art/photos on the wall. What sets this place apart is their Italian Beef. It's the best I've had. Better than Al's beef in my opinion! The beef is perfectly cooked, tender, warm, and is paired perfectly with the jous. Got my first Italian beef sandwich here. It was absolutely incredible. I wasn't really sure how to order it but they explained it pretty well (and in an expeditious manner because people were waiting) the gravy from it being dipped and the hot peppers on top took me to a different world!
