It underwent a extensive renovation last year and only opened recently again for business. The setting is very traditional with a lot of antique decor, making a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Service here is impeccable. Front of house Tobias Ludowigs and his team make every effort to make the guest feel special and well taken care of. As you can imagine the wine list is extensive covering all parts of the world but concentrating on Germany and France. The list of different Riesling is out of the world, I have never seen such an incredible choice. Even smaller vineyards are listed and you can find some rare vintages which are hard to get. The choice of German pintos (Spätburgunder) is extensive as well, all the big guns are on the offering. If you like French wines, don´t go elsewhere. They offer some of the best Bordeaux in the world and still have some older vintages. Best of all is that their wines in general are good value for money and you will sure find a wine that suits your budget. If you need help with your selection ask the sommelier Tobias Ludowigs. He's like a living wine encyclopedia and can tell you anything about the wines on his list. Food wise they have 3 different menu, a tasting, a German and vegetarian one. All include an appetizer, soup, sherbet, main and desert. You can skip the soup if you want, you can interchange courses from the different menu, they are really flexible here. Simon Nauels and his kitchen team do an excellent job. The food is well presented, portions are not too small, everything is delicate and done to perfection. It is always a great experience coming here. For me the Tante Anna has michelin star potential. It is inexpensive in comparison to other restaurants of this quality.

For US travelers (maybe other non-German travelers), I did have an issue with my credit card while at the restaurant. It was on their payment system, not my card. I was able to pay with cash - although they do not accept it. Just have more than one payment method on you, so you don't run into problems. To be fair, I get the same thing every time - the salmon and potatoes. But it is so good I can't bring myself to order anything else. My husband gets something different every time and has been really happy with every meal. The ambiance both inside and outside is perfect for a leisurely dinner with friends or a romantic date. Bonus points: the staff is incredibly friendly and really good with the wine suggestions. We almost always go home and order a bottle of whatever we had at Oktopussy because the wine is always spot on. If you ask, they also have English menus available.

I had "Pasta summer truffle" as a main course, which was really great - it's garnished with freshly grated truffle table-side. My husband had the "Königsberger Klopse," which is apparently a very typical German dish. He liked it but was expecting something more unique and flavorful. We had a few Weihenstephan Hefeweizen with the meal. The menu is in German but our server spoke fluent English and patiently translated the entire menu for us. She was very friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It's a nice departure if you're tired of heavy German dishes of meat and potatoes.

There are around 16 "bar" stools around a U-shpaped counter. You have a good view on the open kitchen where Bastian Falkenroth and his team create amazing dishes. I would say its East meets West! There is a lot of interaction between the team and the dinner guests, which is really a great experience. We had a wine pairing dinner, 4 courses each paired with 2 wines from the Günther Steinmetz vineyard. The menu was very well thought of, the dishes matched perfectly to the wines we tried. In general if you ever have the chance, try the wines from Steinmetz, they are incredible. They only use fresh regional produce for their dishes which are cooked to perfection, great presentation as well. Portions are not small, you will not leave the Nenio hungry. It may not be cheap, but it's worth every penny! We paid Euro 100 for 4 courses including wine and water. I am looking forward to the next time!
