Normally quite good, tonight's Taco Salad was the WORST! The shell was stale and soggy , the meat was dry and burned, the veggies were mostly fresh, and the hot sauce, for which we were charged an extra 50 cents, was missing as were the taco spices and the plasticware. Oh yes, I was charged an extra 3% to go fee (a stale leftover from COVID days). With sales tax I paid over $18 for this poor excuse for a meal. Back in the day I really enjoyed the Taco Salad. I would stuff my face until I was miserable, and then look forward to doing it again next time. Now, the Taco Salad is off the menu as far as I'm concerned. read more

Passing through town, one rarely gets a chance to sample more than one thing on the menu. Therefore, I can only base my review on their hamburger and fries. While these were relatively standard, the fact that it was served deconstructed was , frankly, resented. I don't know how others feel, but I wouldn't have ordered a sandwich that I have to put together; I pay the restaurant to do that. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and the service very good. I wonder if they require you to put together all their sandwiches? Might be worth a question. read more

First the good, the service was wonderful and the ambiance/decor is charming. Unfortunately, none of that could save some of the dishes. We came because of local FB posts about the quality of their chicken fried steak. We had that and it was fine. Nothing special, but certainly not bad. The rating is for their sides. Between the two of us, we ordered one chicken fried steak and 6 sides. We didn't finish any of the sides. Two of them in particular are the reason for my low rating (which I rarely do). I regret not taking a picture. One of their "premium" sides is the $4.99 cream corn casserole. In retrospect, I don't know what I was expecting, but a cup of corn mixed with small bits of unmelted cream cheese and so much black pepper the liquid was gray was not on my Bingo card. That's it--no other ingredients or seasoning that I could detect. I would have thought it's almost impossible to make mac and cheese inedible, but it turns out all you have to do is boil the noodles to mush, mix in only enough cheese sauce to thinly coat the noodles and then top at the last minute with grated cheddar that just sits partially melted in bewilderment on top of the whole mess. I guess I'm glad I didn't take a picture. Lovely people and if I lived closer, I might try it again and learn what dishes are OK to order. Won't be driving out of my way again though. read more

Thought I had posted review years ago but realized I didn't. This cafe is incredible. Get a lot of food for a good price. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. No question my go to breakfast spot when in East Texas! Really good biscuits and gravy and incredible pancakes. Have to go here! read more

I live in Kansas and I come to the area to visit my mom. I have seen and read posts about the Lumberyard. So last night I decided to stop. I walked in and a young man was texting on his phone and apparently didn't see me or knew how to look up and acknowledge me. No other people were anywhere around. So after I waited probably more than 45 seconds I said something and he looked up and seemed confused and I asked if I seat myself or do I wait for someone to seat me. He then seated me. The waitress waited on me and oh my gosh talked so fricking fast. She still served me and the service was acceptable. The food was good and the portions were good. I went to check out and my server and the young man was standing by the register having a spirited discussion about something and was totally oblivious to good customer service and employee etiquette. read more

November 2018, traveling from Newport Beach to West Palm Beach, FL. On my flaming Red Harley, I caught the storm in Las Cruces 38° followed me all the way to I20, and I had to stop bc of a hail storm. It was Edgewood, Texas, at the Lumber Yard Cafe. The people were very friendly. The food was very tasty, and I enjoyed an Excellent Breakfast, btw, the service was great. I stayed for 3 hours and said goodbye to everyone. I'll be passing thru again as I purchased a bigger harley davidson, and I'll see you in the summer, not winter. read more

I was impressed with our waitress Cheyenne...Personality +. The food presentation has always been good. On 4-11-24 I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak entrée...it was very tasty, but, I wasn't able to chew because it was tough. I took 3 bites and it was the same toughness. I asked for a To-go container...I was going to try and make it tender....the waitress rang it up, but, the group said mention it to the waitress. M....done, Manager said she'd talk with someone. She never came back. Upon leaving I asked the mgr. about it. She said she could not do anything for me because I had already. I asked What, are you serious? She said yes...told her this was the worst Customer Service I've ever encountered in any restaurant. No compassion for customers. read more

In all honesty, we had plans to visit an entirely different restaurant, but it was closed on Sunday. Yelp recommended this one as a similar style etc. and so we decided to try it. It did have high stars so that made it a safer bet. I had a turkey avocado club sandwich with fries. The fries were very well seasoned with a hint of garlic, and not overdone and not overcooked. My husband had a chicken, avocado salad, which he also enjoyed. My son had the Cajun pasta, which was gone in a matter of minutes. My daughter had the super BLT. We all enjoyed the meals very much. It is certainly a place that we would visit again in the future. It's very homestyle comfort food, but provides healthy food like the salad and since my husband shared the salad with me. Good restaurant with all the traditional Texas country standards, plus some very good salads. Efficient service. Waitresses are friendly. It's worth a drive from Mineola, Quitman, Emory and, of course, Edgewood; not far from I-20. I make a 45 minute drive there at least monthly. read more

Best home-style meal in Edgewood by far, but don't tell Granny! The CFS, hickory burgers, taco salad, and chopped steak are all excellent! Forgot my phone, so no pics - but the presentation is nice! The sides include standards like beans, fried okra, mashed taters, and YES - they are also fantastic (although I wish they served black-eyed peas). There is a case of tempting pies for dessert, but we all foundered on the entrees - no room for dessert! Family owned and operated, the owners are on scene cooking and making good things happen. Today for lunch I had the Southwest Zesty Chicken. What a wonderful meal. It comes with two sides and was plenty to eat. Not only is it great to eat out again in a restaurant with delicious food and wonderful staff. (Social distancing was practiced) I will return for this dish. I had the Tuesday Taco Special and it was delicious! The people in our group who got chicken fried steak/chicken/chicken strips were not as impressed. this used to be a good place to eat. I took my wife there this morning for breakfast. we ordered coffee and then she ordered breakfast. the coffee tasted like it had been made on a Navy Ship. bitter and overpowering. After one sip I was done. my wife ordered 2 eggs sunny side up. they came over easy and real runny. the bacon was thin and flavorless and the toast wasn't even crisp. By far the worst breakfast ever. I guess you can do it when your the only game in town. next time take the time to drive to Denny's. at least the food is consistent and you can drink the coffee. we will never go back. ever read more

For us it is off the beaten path but we would make the trek in a heartbeat. Building is nondescript, parking is easy. Wait staff is absolutely on point! Bathroom was clean. Rooms for large groups. Menu was diverse yet homey & traditional. My special request was executed perfectly and hubby's pork chop was excellent with the fried squash. Needless to say we liked it. We have been to several American traditional restaurants lately- sort of making it a theme and this was by far the best one yet! read more

We are Lone Star BMW Riders, a motorcycle club out of North Texas. Several times a year during our rides through the area we stop at Lumber Yard Cafe for lunch. The food has always been top-notch. The facilities to support our larger group (typically about 12) is very nice. And best, the service has been extremely competent and very pleasant. Oh, and the kitchen "delivers".
