I had a prescription for corrective lenses and was looking for a good optician to fit my existing frame with the new lenses. A friend of mine recommended Lumen Optometric in Sierra Madre and commented that Chris, one of their opticians, gave her great service. I went to see him for the fitting and received excellent care. He was very good at providing explanations and answering questions, and meticulous at the measurements he took. I feel so fortunate to have found Lumen. First of all, the location could not be sweeter. It's like a movie set. The office is stunning, immaculately clean and yet not at all sterile or unwelcoming. The staff from my first phone call to having my new frames marked up for lenses were so helpful, so kind and ultra patient. Dr. Hoshizaki was excellent. SUPER thorough, explained everything very clearly and took TONS of time with me. It's becoming increasingly rare to find a doctor who actually looks at you during your appointment instead of a computer screen. She spent our appointment actually involved with my care, not charting. Also, they work with Neurolens which have provided me with the most comfortable glasses I've ever had for my eye condition. As it turns out, it's not super easy to find a provider that offers that particular lens and that alone is worth making an appointment at Lumen. They're A+. Go for it. read more

Very attentive to Covid precautions and the ubiquity of high-end digital equipment is reassuring. My appointment was really smooth and pleasant. The frame selection is high-end and tasteful. To be honest I have never thought of getting a newer or better prescription for my sight. Due to tough times. But I decided it was time. Dr. To ran into my previous work place at foothilltek and told me to stop on by, told me about his grand opening near by, a couple weeks later after grand opening I took his word and I did, the ambiance of this location is very modern but subtle to the eye. Not too industrial like some restaurants I've gone to but this isn't a restaurant of course. Its unique, all the Dr.s staff and including himself was very hospitable and helpful willing to listen to various questions that you may have concerns about. I've gone to Walmart and lens crafter's and the gear they have here is a step up from the other two. Dr.To is very patient and from the beginning to the end a very comprehensive check unlike any other I have done. They truly make sure they don't miss spots so that if any issues occur in the near future with your vision you will be advised what steps to take next. My experience with them was one of the most memorable and I say this because when I came to pick up my lenses after the preliminary exam and adjustments. My lenses were ready for pick up, I put them on, let them settle. I walked towards lobby and saw the view outside...I was in awe to be able to have the sharpest vision since 2008. 10 long years to see like this! I was giggling with joy. This was special to me. To be part of the few to have this new tech made for my severe astigmatism. Its truly amazing what scleral lenses can truly make! I will definitely come back again and pay a visit. Went in today for a first appointment and was very impressed. Their office is very clean, brand new state of the art equipment, and the whole team is very kind and helpful. Honestly I love this office, the doctor walks you through every test they took, what they are seeing, what it all means, and advice on any maintaining eye health. Amazing communication, they ask questions and make you feel really heard and seen, not rushed through. Getting an appointment as a new patient I had to schedule it a little over a month in advance, but I believe that is pretty normal with trying to schedule any appointments nowadays. Their notification system is awesome, texts and emails, so super on top of courtesy reminders. Highly reccomend this office! read more

They were kind and professional, efficient, and helpful. The assistant conducted some tests then took me into the review room to meet with the doctor. I felt like the exam was very thorough and they weren't trying to rush me through, but rather wanted to make sure all my needs and questions were addressed. I appreciated the extra care for safety measures the office took with ventilation and cleanliness. Dr. To has been one of the best doctors I've seen for my condition hands down. Due to my eye condition I have to get Scleral lenses. It was the easiest and most professional staff to work with. Dr. To was really patient and took his time to 1. Make sure my new contacts fit properly 2. I knew how to remove them and put them on because they're not like normal contacts it was a completely new procedure. 3. Made sure to answer all my questions. In all honesty, I haven't been to many optometrists. In part because I have 20/20 vision and also because all my visits are typically the same "get in, get out" experience. Who likes being rushed and/or being "just another number" at the doctors? My wife needed some work done and since I was there, I decided I might as well get my eyes checked. Although my exam results were rather uneventful (yay for healthy eyes!), I can say without a doubt that I've never had this type of experience before. Dr. To gave me a first rate experience! As a nurse, I know how important it is to inform and educate the patient and Dr. To did exactly that. He clearly explained things to me (alongside photos of my eyes! I've never had that before!) and answered any questions I had whether they pertained to me specifically or purely out of curiosity. The machines and instruments appeared to be state-of-the-art. Both the exam and the Doctor's explanations felt very thorough. You can tell this is something he deeply cares about. His staff is also very friendly and welcoming. Vivian and Michelle gave me nothing but the best attention and care. I never once felt like I was being sold a "pitch" and if there were such a place as 'your friendly neighborhood optometrist next door' environment, this would likely be it! read more

I've taken my kids there for eye exams and we have always had a pleasant experience. You can tell the doctor and staff care about what they do and offer quality customer care. Both doctors are knowledgable and take time to answer your questions. The decor of the place is nice too. You can tell they pay attention to the details for everything.
