Went to pick up my wedding dress and noticed the orange stain larger than a quarter that she put on my dress between fittings 1 and 2 was still there ... She lied to my face by saying she tried to clean it but said it wouldn't come out and then had the nerve to say it didnt matter because no one would notice...yeah! A giant orange stain on my butt!! It took my mother 2 minutes of scrubbing to get out the stain, so it's clear she didn't even try!! Was never told until pickup how much just a hem would be to alter- 300 bucks!? Also told me at my final fitting that I had gained weight about 20 times and would NOT stop saying it despite my fiance and dad sitting in the next room (note I've lost 12 lbs between 1st and final fittings) ... Who tells any bride 4 days before their wedding that they've gained weight!? SO RUDE. Such a mess... avoid!!!! read more

I enjoyed going to Lupee for my wedding dress alteration. I think some brides get confused with her work ethic though; she will not do a job for you until closer to your wedding date (in terms of her having less liability for a bride loosing or gaining weight). She worked with me on what I planned on doing my wedding day, so that the dress could work around me. Also, she was genuinely interested in my future husband, how things were going, what my family was feeling... the whole deal. It was nice to talk with such a veteran of the field. However, with this experience I also got to hear her frustrations about other clients. I felt that I was put in awkward situation listening them. That's not to say that the quality of her alterations is lacking. She did a great job and I love my dress. It was a little pricey, but I still believe it was worth it. So here are my recommendations on working with Lupee: 1. Be respectful. The woman knows what she's doing, and you are also in her home. 2. Do not expect to get your dress fitted until 2 months or less before the wedding. 3. When in doubt, ask! She gives honest opinions. 4. And don't bring your family to the fittings. You are wearing the dress, not them. Besides, Lupee becomes a second Mom anyway. :) read more

$200 to adjust the length of a 3 layer dress. $50 for the bustle, which was a button and a loop. The work was done well, but I can't imagine the work taking more than 2 hours, and my two fittings were not longer than 30 minutes each. I know everything costs extra when it's for a wedding, but come on. Maybe if I needed something more than a hem and a button, I could appreciate it more. Maybe if it wasn't a room in the back of her house, separated by a curtain, I could understand the high prices. read more

I'm so glad I was referred to Lupee for my wedding dress alterations by my wedding planners! She is such a sweet lady and an expert in her craft. My lace gown had a fringed/scalloped hem, which she had to hand-sew back on after raising the hemline, and she did an impeccable job of doing so. I also asked her to add detachable straps to my strapless gown made of extra lace I bought with the dress, and they turned out beautifully. My dress fit me like a glove and was comfortable all day. I had so much fun at each appointment getting to know Lupee and listening to her marriage advice. She will not let you leave until you are 100% satisfied! Lupee was recommended by Unbridaled in South Austin where I bought my dress. Words can not describe the amazing experiences I had with Lupee. She addressed special issues with kindness and professionalism and was the highlight of each stressful day I met with her for a fitting. She MERGED two dresses together for a bridesmaid that had some sizing issues and made her special dress look just as fabulous as the other 2 ladeez. 2 days before my bachelorette party at a spa I dropped off a swimsuit top for resizing and she whipped it out as well. Lupee is honest in a world not as kind. I found Lupee on Yelp after calling four other wedding alterations. I was on a very short timeline because my fiance and I decided to elope. None of the other alterations were able to accommodate with only a week's notice. Which is fair. But I'm glad they couldn't because I was able to find Lupee. I am SO happy I met her!!! The dress is perfect and she had no problems with the short timeline. Not to mention she was thrilled about the dress and my nuptials. She gave me some wonderful advice and was an absolute joy to work with. I would have never trusted anyone else. Also, I'm hispanic so working with her made me feel like I was with my family which made the whole experience even better. Last year, when one of my bridesmaid's dress was too small and the bridesmaid waited until the last minute to have it altered, Lupee saved my wedding. She was able to add an extra panel to the dress and my bridesmaid looked fabulous! I had already taken my wedding dress elsewhere, but when it came time for me to have another dress altered, she was the first and only tailor that I turned to. Lupe is AWESOME!! I was recommended to her when I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. She got her dress and her MIL's dress done there, and recommended I get mine done there since we were working with a short deadline. She did fantastic work, so much so that I told her that when I got married (which ended up being 1 month later) I would bring my dress to her, and I DID!! She is a master at lace wedding dresses, but can tackle any dress put before her. She is the nicest, sweetest, most humble and thoughtful woman I have met. A year ago today, I found out my wedding dress had been destroyed by another bridal shop in town and it was 2 days before my wedding...you could say I was FREAKING out! I am so glad that I went to Lupee to get my dress altered! My dress required a large amount of alterations- the heavily beaded top had to be taken in on both sides and my very full chiffon princess skirt had to have about 7 layers of chiffon taken out to get it exactly where I wanted it. Lupee met with me about 4 times, each time making sure that I was on board with the changes that had been made. If I was at all uncomfortable about something she would make little changes or suggestions until I was completely happy. While you get your dress altered, Lupee will chat with you about life, give you advice, and be genuinely interested in you and your wedding. As a result, appointments tended to run long, but I didn't mind. Her workroom is in her home, and it is clean and warm. Lupee also helped my mom choose a dress for the wedding, free of charge, and altered my sister's bridesmaid's dress within two days. read more

Lupee altered my wedding gown for me in 2009. She did a fabulous job--she altered the neckline and put in a french bustle, which held all night (ladies, bustles not lasting all night is a huge issue. You need a good one--and Lupee knows exactly which one is best for your dress in terms of aesthetics and functionality.) My appointments were in a sunroom-turned-workroom in her home. It was very clean and well maintained (I know, it's hard to leave your dress in someone else's home!). It's true you strip down right in the middle of the sunroom, but it's the same as at the doctor, or getting a bra fitting, etc. NBD. She always took her time (I think each of my fittings were at least 30 minutes, and my alterations were relatively minimal) and gave me sound advice that was never self-serving--one change another seamstress might have recommended would have been very expensive, and Lupee told me it wasn't worth it. She also had good tips on shoes and bras. And lots of general life experience wisdom, which was very entertaining. I give Lupee 5 stars because I think she is an expert seamstress you can trust with the most expensive dress you've ever bought. But I'll say she is pretty pricey and you do need to be the one to call her. I never had any issues with her responsiveness, but it will probably be on you to call and schedule your next fitting after you've had your initial consultation and dress drop-off. I'm not sure how other brides wouldn't know the cost until the work was completed? I paid in cash and had the right amount on me when I went for my final fitting. It's been so long that I don't remember the exact conversation, but I knew in advance what it would be and there was no price shock (beyond the obvious that everything wedding-related is more expensive!). (Also seems like a good time to tell any unsuspecting brides out there that lace dress alterations cost more whether you go to Lupee or elsewhere.) PS Lupee has a bridal portrait of herself out on her grand piano in the living room from back in the day and she was a dish!! I bought my dress at Unbridaled and they recommended Lupee to alter my wedding dress. I read reviews before I chose her so I knew what to expect. Here is what I think of her as a person and a professional (some of this is based on some of the reviews I read): 1. She is a very genuine, beautiful human being with many years of experience. She's been happily married a long time and she loves life. 2. Her work is impeccable and her prices are fair. She wants things done correctly, not quickly. 3. She will bend over backwards to help you...unless you're a horrible person. 4. She will give you advice and she will love you as a fellow human being. 5. If she has the time, she will want to chat with you so if you're short on time you need to make that clear. 6. Don't bring other people to your fitting. Why would you do that anyway? They will just be in the way. 7. Don't be rude to this woman. She is the sweetest woman you will ever meet and you will be in her home. 8. Don't worry about the fact that you're in her sun room. Nobody can see you change. 9. If she doesn't think the dress needs to be changed, she will tell you. And she will be right. 10. Hemming a dress is a huge pain...have you ever had to hem a dress with yards and yards of fabric in the skirt? It's really tedious and it has to be done by hand in almost all cases, not with a machine. Don't complain about how much it costs. You can get it done cheaper or you can get it done right. Lupee will do it right. I made my daughter's dress for the wedding and she also offered me advice on that even though she didn't have to. My daughter's dress came out better than it would have without her help. She helped me with that because she loves to teach and she loves sewing, not because she wanted money. I was very grateful! Parking is easy as it's a neighborhood by a park. I didn't know the price until it was done. I had set aside hundreds just in case and didn't even need half of what I set aside. I went to her for a dress fitting and surprisingly no alterations were needed. she was up front with me about what was needed (or not needed, in this case) to be done. she made recommendations and steered me away from making any bad decisions. we were thinking of doing a sash for my wedding dress but she commented on how with my dress, it might look too little girl-like. later when I went to get it steamed, we decided to do an ivory sash instead, which looked gorgeous and much more appropriate. she's efficient, friendly and just over all great to work with. read more

I just had the most amazing experience with Lupee. She was recommended to me by Unbridaled. I bought my dress and it fits very well. But I wasn't sure if it needed to be altered. I'm getting married very soon and she had me come over almost immediately. She gave me great advice regarding Petticoat Fair (to not let them squish me too much) and I brought all the gear they gave me thinking that she would have to sew it all in the dress. She put me in my dress/with gear and was honest. I needed NO alterations. The dress fits perfectly with my bustier and pads. AND she sewed/reinforced buttons on my dress for free. Showed me how to iron it safely AND showed me how to bustle my dress easily. I tried to give her money for her advice and the buttons and she refused. I felt completely at peace in her home and with my dress. And any bride can appreciate that. read more

Lupee did an amazing job on my wedding dress. It was a very expensive designer gown that was a size 10 and I am a size 4, not to mention it was covered with the most intricate bead work all over the dress. She completely took up the dress in the back and rebuilt the corset, you could not tell that it had been touched. The dress looked like it was made for me. She is wonderful at making you feel at ease in her home and with the process. Especially, when you are dropping off something so special that is going to be cut into pieces. You can put your complete trust into Lupee. I was very picky, making sure that there were going to be no beads missing, little strings hanging, etc. and it was nice to be around someone else who cares as much about your dress as you do. She was so detail oriented, and very helpful if you need suggestions on veils and other accessories to go with the style of your dress. I also had 4 dress fittings so she could get it perfect. She was great at customizing the dress just for me and sewing in pieces that needed to be filled, where I couldn't fill it ;)! I would recommend any alteration to Lupee no matter the size of the job. I got my dress from a place in Houston that did not use the correct measurements and I ended up with a dress that would drag on the ground with 4 inch heels. The bottom was scalloped lace and it absolutely made my stomach turn that we were going to have to alter the gown. I was referred to Lupe by my wedding coordinator in Austin. I took the dress to her and she knew that I was upset about having to alter the length. And I was seriously debating just leaving the dress long and dealing with it on my wedding day. Lupe came up with a way to alter the dress and leave the scalloped hem untouched. I was extremely happy with her design. I also had to have the sides taken in and my gown was heavily beaded. I was afraid that you would be able to notice that we had altered the dress but it came out beautifully and no one noticed that it was altered. I would recommend Lupe a million times over. She is so polite and courteous. She absolutely loves what she does and did everything she could to make me love my wedding dress again (after all the drama with the salon in Houston). I work M-F 8-5 and she was able to accommodate my schedule. She had my dress ready when she promised and it was ready to go (cleaned and steamed). Not to mention, it fit perfectly!! read more

Lupee is AMAZING! I bought a dress that someone else had ordered and didn't want (it was too short for her high high heels). I loved the dress but when I brought it to Lupee the bodice was too short and the whole dress was too wide. I am super super picky about the fit of my clothes (I am a professional ballet dancer with Ballet Austin and I am very particular, especially when it comes to a tight bodice). Lupee worked wonders with my dress! It fits perfectly! She added a waist lower down and took it in just right for all of my curves. It is more flattering now than if it had just been taken in. She adjusted everything just right and she is worth every penny. It was so wonderful working with Lupee. She is honest and sincere and has a beautiful spirit! Dressmaking is a tricky thing. Lupee works in a sensitive space where she has to make clothes that capture the way a woman wants to look and feel. Lupee is not only talented, but very honest. I came to Lupee a year ago seeking alterations on a bridesmaid dress for an upcoming wedding. I walked into her space with all sorts of goals about what I wanted covered, what I wanted to accentuate and hide, etc. and Lupee masterfully addressed each. She gave me as much time as I needed to go through the options of what could be done to suit my shape. In the end, she built up my confidence and made me realized the dress was perfect all along. I mean it. After giving me a great deal of her time for free, it was clear that she was a woman of high integrity when instead of trying persuade to choose the pricey upgrades, she made me realize the dress required no alterations at all. I would not trust my wedding dress to be altered by anyone other than Lupee. She loves her brides and cares for their dresses. Lupee has been a seamstress for years and has worked for high fashion clothing lines in the past. She makes you feel more like family than just another wedding client. It was always fun visiting Lupee to try on my dress because in addition to getting one step closer to finishing my alterations she would also give me great marriage advice. I think she said she's been married to her husband for over 50 years! She gave great input into shoes and undergarments as well which paid off on the day of the wedding. Lupee was great for fitting my wedding dress and did an amazing job. Personally, I really liked her and really enjoyed getting to know her. A couple of things were sort of minor issues. One, was that she never called me once my dress was ready. I was a pretty organized bride, and was waiting for a call from her. It was partially my fault for not calling her to check in, but part of me felt like I really shouldn't have to. The other issue, was that price for the alterations were not discussed until after services were done. I was sort of on a budget, and though I knew that I was getting pretty simple alterations, I would have liked to know up front what (or a ballpark of what her charges are) the charges would have been. I was sort of surprised at the 2nd fitting to hear that my alterations were going to be more then my dress. In all fairness, I got an amazing price on my dress, but again, the shock of not having any idea in advance what the cost would be, and knowing that my alternations were so simple, sort of put a bad taste in my mouth. Finally, if you are at all modest, you may want to go elsewhere. Her studio is in her home, which is fine, but it is closed by vertical blinds from the rest of her house, and open to her kitchen, so you're not really sure if someone were to walk into her living room or kitchen, if they'd get a free show. As you can see I gave 3 stars, because the alterations were flawless. read more

She replaced the spaghetti straps with pleated cap sleeves and refashioned the neckline, including reworking a lot of intricate beading. Lupe is a nice lady and does good work. However she does not discuss prices with you. This way you have an option for her to do the work or go elsewhere. You tell her what alterations you need but she doesn't give you an estimated price. She plays around by saying "1 million dollars". I only had my bridesmaid dress hemmed and she was going to charge me $100 dollars. When other bridesmaids that had the same work if not more were only charged $40 at a dry cleaners and the work was just as good. It wasn't until the bride who had to call her and let her know she wasn't fair in the price. She did agree to only charging me $50 but was upset that I would question her price. All I say is try and get an estimated price for the work she does so this way if she is too pricey you have the option to take your business elsewhere. read more
