But we couldn't resist stopping by the lobby bar for a cocktail just to get a taste of what it would be like to be rich and famous and staying at the Maria Christina. Dry bar is like a scene from the great gatsby (at the beginning of the night before Daisy is throwing up all over everyone and it's still classy). Art Deco abounds and all the cocktails are fantastic, with a price that won't let you forget what a swanky place you're in. A drink here throws you back in another era... one in which your great grandma was young and flapper dresses were the thing. It's certainly worth a peek if you've got the dough, just realize a that a few dollars of your steeply priced Vieux Carre is going towards your experience, which is truly one of a kind.

The best thing about the place is the location, right in old town, close to the train station, and the coastline, as well as the hike up the hill to the old fort. After trying to spend one disastrous, miserable, hot, noise-filled night in a pension in Parte Vieja, we switched to Parma Hotel and couldn't have been happier. The 24 hour front desk is extraordinarily polite, knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms, while small in a typical crowded European city standard, are very clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. Unloading and loading luggage is very easy, using the 2 spaces provided immediately in front of the door for such purposes. Private parking is very conveniently located nearby in an underground parking lot. It is significantly discounted from the public lots and comes with unlimited in and out privileges. If you want to experience the best of San Sebastian--lounging at Playa de la Concha and playing in the waves at Gros, shopping and pintxo-ing in Parte Vieja, touring the harbor, visiting Museo San Telmo, walking the promenade at night, then Parma Hotel is in one of the best locations for all of this. At 130 Euros/night, it was a bit expensive for us, but San Sebastian is the most expensive city in all of the Basque Country as well as all of Spain. If we wanted a comfortable stay in one of the best, most convenient locations available in San Sebastian, we would return to Parma Hotel.

A twenty minute walk from old town or 10 minutes by the frequent 5 or 25 buses, which stop right outside the hotel and cost only 1.45. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They are on the small side but this is Europe so it is to be expected. Staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel is very close to Ondarreta beach. The Concha beach is a little further away but it is still walkable. The Old Town is about 20 or 30 minutes away on foot but there are buses if you'd rather take those.

The check in was quick and easy and the staff were helpful and polite. They have the most adorable themed lobby/lounge with a great selection of movies to rent with your night's stay! We spent some time just hanging out in the lounge, writing postcards. It was super cozy. There's also a computer station in case you need to do some last minute planning or ticket purchases. We opted for the parking so we could forget about the car and just walk everywhere. It's a pretty short walk to Old Town and the beach. There's also a great little market/store a block down ( Don Serapio) that sells fresh pastries and jamón sandwiches. The hotel room was nice- although oddly shaped. The bathroom was extremely clean and spacious. The rest of the room was pretty standard, besides being very contemporary. The bed was comfortable enough and we had several lighting options. If you're looking for a nice and updated hotel with a cool theme, this is it. Everyone was very friendly and we had no trouble renting several movies during our stay. It's pretty close to everything and we had no trouble walking everywhere. I'd definitely stay here again.

No need to cab or bus anywhere. The hotel is located on a small street off the main drag. It's a small boutique hotel. Our room was located on the 1st floor which was technically the 2nd floor because the lobby was considered 0 floor. Our room was facing the street. Room size was pretty decent and generous. Layout was functional and efficient. Bathroom was good size with a nice sized shower. There was a rain shower and hand held as well. Water pressure was GREAT. Hot water was GOOD. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Had a great nights sleep every night. No complaints except noise coming from the street at night. I guess people throw their glass bottles out into the recycle bins which were right below our room so we heard the glass dropping into the recycle bins and when the garbage trucks came to empty the huge recycle bins. Something to be aware of if noise bothers you. Other than that, we loved the room and hotel.

Beautiful artwork and the front desk staff is friendly and had great recommendations for San Sebastian. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a 2 night stay here was around $120. A bit far from San Sebastian but a great place to recharge after days of travelling.
