    Eggplant

This place is great for comfort food. The service can be off sometimes but for the most part they get their job done lol. Theres a to go area and also a seating area that's pretty good to fit maybe 15 parties. Parking can be a bit difficult since it's a small plaza. Food: Eggplant 8/10: this is always my go to dish here. The flavor is on point and it's great w the porridge. Only downside is that the skin of the eggplant can be hard sometimes so I peel it off and just eat the inside. But the flavor is def there for me. Mapo tofu 7/10 your basic mapo tofu. Minimal numbing spice to it which I like. Tomato egg 8/10: another great comfort food. Flavor is good but can be a bit more tomato-ey maybe a bit more ketchup to bump it up a notch? But I still enjoyed it. Braised pork with egg/ 7/10: they can def braise it more so that the meat is a bit softer, but again I still enjoy the flavor. Overall I find myself coming back, maybe bc it reminds me of my childhood I would come here w my parents. Nostalgic vibes lol. FYI: they automatically charge for porridge/rice if u sit down to eat there. $3 a person.

Always a favorite comfort food. Service is quick and food is tasty. It does get busy during dinner so come early to beat the rush. Small store but clean.

Great place to get Chinese comfort food at a decent price. It's three dollars per person for unlimited pumpkin congee or rice, which is a great deal if you are hungry. They have a variety of different dishes. You can choose from such as eggplants, green beans, chicken thigh, bean cured or mustard green. Everything is salty, so it goes really well with the congee or rice. You order your food in the front first and then they bring it out to you if you are dining in they have special lunch seven days a week and service is great. They will refill your bowl as you eat, tea is also very good

My comfort food as always, the only go to place, and the service is good as well. Highly recommended from LA local

I love taiwanese porridge! Ordered the jellyfish, braised pork belly, bamboo shoots, and dried tofu strips and they paired great with the porridge. The porridge is standard with yam. Very fresh and delicious! Would definitely come back.

Came in for their lunch special of 4 items for $22. It is quick and fast ordering. We enjoyed it.

Great spot for a reasonably priced lunch with an excellent variety of options to choose from. There's also plenty of seating available, so finding a table is never an issue!

We went to Lu's Garden for the first time for dinner. You order (both for takeout and dine-in) at the counter, where you can peruse the dishes cafeteria-style. We ordered three dishes (braised pork, squid, and stir fry spicy peppers) and got two servings of the porridge ($3 per person, but unlimited refills). The booths were comfy and service was attentive as they proactively offered us porridge refills. The dishes were all solid, especially the stir fry peppers which paired nicely with the porridge. We had enough leftovers for an additional meal at home. Many other dishes we didn't try looked well-cooked and tasty as well!

Sweet potato porridge and delicious food!!!

Love the food! Always come and visit from Sac Always order porridge, love pork feet, but not always there. Fast and easy

The food is fresh and suits our taste. Loved by both adults and children alike. Every time we visit, we take some takeout home to eat--it's a truly excellent restaurant.

Couldn't find the spot at first in the plaza but it is located near a McDonald's. Looked big from outside but was a decent size inside with a good amount of tables and seating space. Saw that the Beef Noodle Soup was good so I had to try it, the beef broth was delicious and I love bok choy so they had me at bok choy! Beef was nicely cooked too, I liked it! Dan Dan noodles were okay and it felt like it was spicy peanut butter but still good, just not my favorite. But the pork dumplings (xiao long bao) was YUMMY. It really hit the spot when we grabbed one each and the warmth and taste was delicious. Definitely my favorite! Pork and crab dumplings were good too! Grab a basket of the fried sesame scallion bread and get something saucy to dunk it in. Green Onion Sesame Pie: This prized basket of northern-style flatbread is probably what most people here are waiting for. The fried bread is cut into wedges with a crispy crackling exterior topped with fragrant sesame seeds. Inside, the bread layers are soft, pillowy, and bursting with green onions. Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. The sauce is thick and savory. There's so much flavor from the minced garlic, fermented black beans, and scallions. The silky sauce seem to find a way into all the nooks and crannies of the stellar bread. Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: The cooking technique of this dish is pretty cool. This is like a crispy char siu. The rich pork belly is marinated in red yeast rice wine for its aromatic flavor. It is coated in tapioca flour and then fried. The edges are crispy and kind of chewy while the meat is juicy and tender. Tofu Skin, Soy Beans, and Mustard Greens: The super thin tofu sheets and soy beans are a Shanghainese classic. With finely chopped mustard greens, the dish is a delightful study of textures: crunchy greens, chewy soy beans, and snappy from the tofu skin. The flavor is neutral and nourishing. They do share the lot with several other establishments. The lot doesn't really get busy, so you shouldn't have any problems with finding parking. I did notice that some spots are smaller than others. Food: I ordered a mild spicy popcorn chicken and minced bowl/ plate. The popcorn chicken was very flavorful, crunchy, tender, and juicy. Big portion for like $10. The Taiwanese seasoning mix brought me right back to the night markets to Taiwan. It's truly the 5 spice powder that hits the spot. The batter wasn't thick, so the chicken didn't taste very battery/ cakey. That's what I hate about some places that make popcorn chicken. It also wasn't too spicy for me. It was just right. I ordered the minced bowl, which is actually a plate. For like $12, it was actually pretty good and the portions was huge. The boiled / blanched cabbage and broccoli were soft, sweet, and tasty. I could taste the sesame oil on it. It wasn't salty. The sweet corn and diced juicy tomatoes combo was good too. The boiled tea egg was pretty delicious. You can actually taste the tea and soy sauce. The egg was nice and soft. And now, for the braised minced pork. The pork was very delicious and it just melted in my mouth. I love that there were some fatty pieces of pork too in the dish. It balanced out some of the pieces of pork, which had too much meat in it. Definitely a very savory and rich dish. Omg and the sauce from the braised minced pork drizzled over the rice was just so perfect! It made the rice extremely delectable. This is hands down one of my favorite Taiwanese dishes, and it was made perfectly. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, welcoming, and kind. They are closing this restaurant down in February 2026 due to rising rent and the landlord's unwillingness to upgrade the place. So sad. I'm seriously upset to see this place go. Which it's usually what I do, order take outs when I am in the area. I guess this is reduces their overhead costs! I just hope they will stay in Business! The pork chops had been consistently tasty and tender. The veggies and corn are good too! Wish they give more corn! The price are still reasonable given the good portion of food. Service is just phone orders and pick up now. Ambiance looks like when it was covid times. But it works as long as I get my favorite pork chop rice!

I came to 101 Noodle Express in Alhambra for a late dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in the…read moresame building as Alhambra Valley Bowl. From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. Btw, cash, Zelle, or Venmo payment ONLY for bill total under $50. Bring cash if you don't plan to eat lots.

I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
