There are very few places that have taken the literal words out of my mouth and left me in silence, this is one of them. About a month ago, we visited here for the first time while taking a stroll in San Francisco. What caught our eye was the word small batch gelato. The line wasn't bad on this night so we gave it a go. I immediately saw the very unique flavors and the high quality layouts. To our mistake, we grabbed one cup with two flavors and walked away. When I say we fought over it, our marriage was tested over the gelato. Lol A month later, which was just last weekend we were in town again for another Giants game. This was 100% on our guaranteed stop list. This second time around we each had our own cup of goodness, of sweet delicious remarkable goodness. I am hooked, I am unapologetically hooked. Lush has to be my most favorite gelato place in the city, maybe the bay, maybe California. You get the point, this gelato is pretty far up the ranks. I typically get a 4 scoop chocolate waffle covered cone, that's how divine the texture and the layered flavors are. The flavors rotate so it's like a treasure hunt, you never know what you may find. During my last visit, I had the following 4 flavors, in order of my rating: 1. Espresso & Dulce De Leche 2. Black & White Trio 3. Dulce de Leche 4. Whisky crumbles At times the queue gets pretty long. You can take a lap around north beach area and come back few minutes later. I have observed personally that the queues tend to be in waves. It's a small little shop so you basically get your gelato, walk out and enjoy the city sights. read more

Stumbled out here after having dinner in North Beach, we knew we wanted gelato after on a Thursday evening. A lot of the other places were closed and Lush was still open upon closing and it looked like they were almost out of a lot of flavors. It was also pretty busy, we sampled a few and shaded a large 3 scoop- we got their brown butter and chocolate honey comb, an earl grey, and I think a chocolate chip type or mint chip? We were kind of drunk but also pretty loud in there and also got a nice brownie to enjoy with. There's not much seating inside and there's some seating outside. The workers were so kind and friendly for dealing with us. Shows That their gelato is good for running out by the end of the night! Parking is quite tough out here, there's street parking if you're lucky. There's a 24 hour parking lot on Vallejo street across the police station that's not too far. read more

We were in the Little Italy neighborhood and I was craving gelato. I found Lush online and stopped by to try it out. We sampled some flavors and shared a small size. The textures were very soft and foamy and many flavors weren't a hit with me. The mint chip specifically tasted like you were literally chewing mint leaves. Grabbing some scoops at Lush was perfect for a hot summer's day, but unfortunately the flavors melted together and one flavor, the Chai Cookie Butter & Chocolate, permeated the entire 4 scoop cup. From the flavors available that week, my friend and I chose an Earl Grey and Mint Chip flavor in a small cup. The portion sizes were generous! We were the last ones in the line for the gelato and this lady from behind the counter became rude and started saying that we're not going to serve you ice cream even after acknowledging that we were next. She even went to her fellow server to make sure she doesn't sell us ice cream. We had a few guests visiting SF and this attitude left such a bad impression. We keep trying to give the best experience of the city and typically we don't have to try that hard, but this is just ridiculously bad. Some of the creamiest gelato I've had, with a wide selection of unique and creative flavors. The mint chip was a standout--rich, refreshing, and packed with flavor. I also tried the chai cookie butter, which was enjoyable, though the chai flavor was much more prominent than the cookie butter. Aside from the cookie crumble on top, I didn't get much of the cookie butter notes I was expecting. The shop itself has very limited indoor seating, but it's just a short walk from a nearby park, which makes for a perfect place to sit and enjoy your gelato on a nice day. They seemed focused on just keeping the line moving. The gelato itself was very creamy and not icy at all. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors. Pistachio was my favorite by far. It had actual pistachios and white chocolate pieces in it, which were very delicious. They allow you to get two flavors with a size small, which is rare at other gelato places. Tried the chai and cookie butter and the plum sorbet and wow! The chai was super strong and the plum was right at the forefront with a slightly acidic and sweet taste. The line was out the door and down the street so that means it's good right? Most definitely! Their homemade gelato and freshly made waffle cones are delicious! I chose lemon bar and it was the perfect mix of sweet and tart from the fresh lemon juice and zest. We also tried a mini gelato cheesecake and it was scrumptious! Only wish it was a bigger serving. The lone employee was doing her best to stay on top of making cones and serving customers. For how busy it was she definitely could have used some help. We arrived around 9:40 PM, and there was already a line. While we were waiting, a staff member, came over and told us that we were the last people who would be allowed to join the line. When we finally got inside by 9:55we asked if we could sample a flavor before ordering. She immediately told us that we were not allowed to have any samples and could only purchase ice cream. Her attitude was extremely rude and dismissive. Almost yelling. I asked for her name because I wanted to understand who I was speaking with. Her response was shocking. She said, "Why do you want my name? We're not serving you any ice cream because of This question and she told the other staff to not sell any ice cream to me We had two young children with us, and my friend had already paid for both of them. Despite that, she refused to let us order or receive any ice cream. The children were so upset that they started crying. Anyways we got 2 ice cream cause we paid for 2 It was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've had. We came expecting to enjoy a fun family outing, but instead our evening was completely ruined. Heard good things about Lush gelato so finally got to try it on a Sunday around 7pm! There was a big line but it was moving fast - took about 15 minutes before we could order. My friend and I sampled a few of the flavors and ultimately, decided to split the 6 scoop sampler with the following flavors: Dulce de Leche, Dark Chocolate, Crème Fraiche & Strawberry Balsamic, Brown Butter & Chocolate Honeycomb, Lush Pistachio, Cardamom Lemon. We both really like the Crème Fraiche & Strawberry Balsamic! Tasted like strawberry jam. The Cardamom Lemon was nice and light as well. Brown Butter & Chococolate Honeycomb was unique - I liked the honeycomb and wished there was more of it! Dark Chocolate was good but I would have liked for it to have been sweeter. The Dulce de Leche tasted a little too caramelized so was not a huge fan of this. I'm not a huge pistachio fan but my friend said it was simple and tasty.
