This review is for the experience my boyfriend and I had Thursday the 15th during our outing in town. ^__^ It was both our first time there and MAN their food was Really frick'n good!!  The breading and seasoning on their fried shrimp was quite similar to my experience at Momma Ann'z recently, but had noticeably different spice qualities and backgrounds!   Their spicy collard greens were exceptional though and I'm a huge advocate for them southern-style greens! They're just as important to me as any side with home-style southern cuisine!   My partner tried their shrimp as well, and their macaroni & cheese. He Too agrees their food was a real good time! I look forward to my 2nd visit there for sure! I'm thankful we caught them on a slow day! Hehe ^__^ There were only a couple others there waiting for their goodies when we got there. haven't been here in a while and they use to be really good and it closed for a while now back open, new owners . so i go inside there is no other customers at first the guy standing at the register is on his personal phone and is having just a chitchat with someone and keeps talking as im standing right there waiting for him to take my order the cook is shaking his head and says how are u today what can we get for you and then a couple more min go by and the guy starts taking my order after the cook asked me what id like i told him , so ridiculous! when i get home and had 8 piece meal to share with my husband with red beans and rice and okra and collard greens , the collard greens taste awful and the red beans and rice were bland and had no flavor definitely not worth $32 none of it ! in that collard greens was almost $10 not worth a penny! only thing that was half decent was the fish and it wasn't as good as it use to be ! i will not be returning ! so disappointing! read more

This place is the worst fried fish place Ive ever been. The fish was old and had been sitting out. They served catfish in our order. We never ordered that. Nothing is fresh about this fish. Its also the most unappetizing fish weve ever eaten or laid eyes on. Our order was completely wrong. When we asked what "white fish" they served, the lady taking our order couldnt tell us. Red beans and rice are horrific. Hush puppies are dry and stale. Literally nothing is good. We also ordered the half dinner and it says everywhere online and in the restaurant that you get 4 pieces of fish. She said we only got three on the phone. They need to update their information. First time having Lutfi's and I will definitely be back. We ordered through DoorDash, and the fish was still crispy when it arrived. I think that the fish could have used a little more salt, but that's a personal preference. The green beans are so flavorful with a bit of spice. && the hushpuppies were so crispy on the outside, but still soft on the inside. We also got a side of the corn nuggets, and I would recommend those as well. read more

Food is cooked to order so it's really fresh. The wait time was about 10 min which isn't bad. Staff was courteous and clean. Washed their hands frequently which was nice to take notice. The sides are authentic southern dishes. The service is wonderful. I had collards, Cole slaw and the fried fish. The collards were a blast of the past of my time in Louisiana and I could drink the pot liquor like broth. But the fish, the fish was GREAT . it was the best fried fish I've had in years. OMG the fried fish and shrimp is amazing. Cooked fresh and even right in front of you, if you care to stand and watch. Restaurant is clean with friendly staff. They'll greet you with a smile. We love Lutfis, but have missed our State Avenue location. As we are not usually in the Independence area very much, we were surprised to see the Lutfi's sign just off the highway. The fish- Fresh, and seasoned to perfection. Add extreme amounts of Hot sauce ,and you have an experience! We came in with a bigger group about an hour before close, this will be why I am giving the benefit of a doubt. They were out of mac and cheese, fries( who runs out of fries?!), red beans and rice, and lemons. I know , the options most would pick with their fish......disappointment was great. The staff was very polite and accommodating. Something to note: There was a security guard there. I want to believe that this wouldn't mean that Noland Rd. has gone to pot, but I think it has. I had to be ar work at 830am for the world famous monthly team meeting for work so to put me a better mood a belly full of warm homemade mac and cheese and some catfish and red beans and rice and for 35 mins I was taken away from the stupor of my current situation and brought to a world of pure bliss! Very disappointed in the portion size. $8 for a baby tilapia. It was also hot as hell in the store. Dunno if the ac broke or they're trying to save on energy but it's a bit much. Taste is so so... but I like the Texas toast style. I've been to this new location twice now since it's opened. The staff are super nice and attentive. The fish is just as fresh hot and crispy as I've come to expect from the Lutfi's name. I highly recommend I'd you are in the mood for some tasty fish. Their smoked wings are great too. My second visit just happened to be when. They were finishing a batch of smoked wings. I was going to order through DoorDash but I notice the prices were way higher then on the website so we decide to call our order in. $44.20 on DoorDash but $34 if you order through the restaurant. On the DoorDash app and their website it said the family meal came with 16pc of fish (tilapia, basa, catfish or white), 2 sides. NOWHERE did it say that if you order the white fish you will only receive 12 pieces of pieces of fish. My husband picked up the order, the person behind the register flashed the box open to him and from what he could see the order looked right. Once he got home and we had a chance to see it more closely did we find that it was not as advertised. There are zero whole pieces of fish. Just chopped up chunks and strips. When I called to let them know we were missing fish, that is when they told us we should have asked if their menu was correct because you only get 12pcs with the whiting. How do you know to ask if the menu online and on the doordash app clearly says 16pcs???????? The lady was all additude and the cook in the back was yelling. It was so unprofessional and disappointing. My suggestion is if you order from here make sure to look into your crystal ball to see if there is anything you should ask since they want you to be a mind reader rather then they correct their menu and advertisements. read more

So, I'm from the south and when I saw the menu I got excited but I was kind of skeptical. I thought "How in the world can a restaurant in the Midwest have good southern comfort food?" I got the fish and shrimp with greens and Mac and cheese. I haven't even finished eating but I needed to let everyone know how incredibly good this food is. I am beyond impressed with everything. Every time I've had shrimp in KC its been over cooked, not Lutfi's shrimp! All the fish I've had out here dry and mostly inedible, not Lutfi's fish! The greens are the second best I've ever had, my pops has the best but he ain't here! The Mac and cheese is perfect! I will definitely go back! We had a horrible experience there this evening. They were out of most sides and no blacken fish, only fried. They were nearly out of all sides. Only choices of sides were slaw, red beans and rice, and fries. My husband ordered a full order with fish, beans and rice, and fries. He brought home and it was the wrong order. $20 for four small pieces if fish, COLD red beans and rice, and the slaw was awful. My spouse is sure they gave our order to the person in front of him.
