Al (owner and worker) scraped the walls and plastered the entire place except for the bathroom and kitchen which were in good shape. He painted the entire apartment. He gutted and installed a new shower stall and re did the internet cable so it looked great. He did other stuff as well but those were the major pieces. My wife and I live 250 miles away in Washington DC so hiring a contractor for our project in Brooklyn was intimidating as many of the quotes we got were from contractors who were hostile or hard to work with. When we found Al we knew we hit gold. He did an amazing job on every front. And when he made a mistake, he took care of it at his cost. This only happened a couple of times when his guy broke the shower handle and they took off the picture hook molding by mistake. All gave us regular updates and moved the project along quickly. I can't say enough good about his attention to detail and his desire to look out for our well being. I am sad that he works so far from our home as I would hire him in a heart beat to do all the work we need on our 100 year old house. Often he would suggest better ways to get something done. Such as the plastering. They gave several coats of plaster and used a mesh so that these walls would last another 30 years if not more. He redid the shower stall when it did not look exactly perfect. He got the job done on time and within budget and with renovation there are always surprises. He just took care of them and was so friendly and communicative. He rocks! He lives his word and is totally trustworthy. I told Al my wife and I would give him references if he ever wanted them from us. When we first started to talk to him he gave me four folks to call and all had great things to say about him. He is not the cheapest and he is not the most expensive, he charges a fair price that made me feel great about paying him. Your friends may tell you to pay less or that it should not take so long. And I can tell you from experience the end result is the only metric for success in a project where you are taking apart a 70-80 year old apartment and bringing it up to speed. For example when they dug out the old shower he found leaky pipes. He could have ignored it and just did what we paid him for, but for another 600 dollars (which our building will pay for) he made sure it was fixed and saved us thousands of dollars down the road when another contractor/plumber would have to dig it all up and do it again. He always consulted with our super to make sure everything was done to the buildings specification. Al was at the job site doing the work most of the time. He is a skilled worker and not just a manager.

We came namely to get tile for a quick repair but we've on and off noted and wanted then forgotten this place during 4 major rounds of tile-buying for our current home's ongoing progress. Finally, at last, we came and it's as good as it looks outside with immediate attentive service from the admittedly not-busy shopkeeper and tile specialist who knew what is in and out of stock which is crucial given the ongoing major supply chain problems which styme the atypically easy possibilities. We easily found tile we liked from its prominent and easy-to-peruse tile display stand and ascertained it was in stock so after easy negotiating (still a thing here), calculating, and payment, we got the car ready which thankfully is easier as this part of the block on New Utretcht Ave has some spots and loaded easily. I look forward to returning for the next round of tile as we have a stairs project which will benefit from their nice selection, very fair prices, and expert knowledge.

**Updated this review in Dec 2023 due to ongoing problems with this vendor**…read more I'm the president of a board that used SKL Glass to replace the front door of our building. Unfortunately, our experience was not good. We paid SKL $2000 for custom brass door handles, but in less than a year, the brass began to wear off and reveal silver underneath. We brought this to SKL's attention and after three months of reaching out to them and being ignored they finally sent a contractor who showed up at our building unannounced to replace the door handles in black. SKL's owner, Shaun, has also repeatedly ignored our super and building manager's emails and calls about refunding us difference for these "brass" handles, until we threatened to take him to small claims court. He then finally responded and, after another two months, issued us a $500 refund. Less than a year after the new black handles were installed, however, in November 2023, they have already began to chip. When we reached out to SKL Glass we were told that the cause of the issue is "normal wear and tear." I do not see other chipped door handles in luxury buildings or businesses around the city, though, and it seems like a door handle should last at least a year before it begins to chip. SKL refused to issue us a refund, however, and stated "I do not believe we can ever satisfy this building so it my recommendation that you seek service from another company." Other issues we encountered during the original instal included the workers badly scratching one of the panels, causing us to have to replace that brand new panel. One of the doors also stopped working (unable to open it) shortly after installation and took months to be fixed. And now, we are once again having problems with the doors not closing properly. This was the reason we hired SKL Glass in the first place so we've essentially just blown $15,000+ without actually fixing anything. Now we have to start this process over again and seek another professional who will actually own up to the quality of their work.
