It looks as though I am the first Alumni to Yelp, old LSC. I left there in 1994, so I am sure things have changed considerably since. Of course when I was there the dorms, had no phone, cable, or internet (was there internet in the early 90's?). We had to find old fashioned fun like drinking games and who could gargle the longest with Listerine. I got a pretty good education. I got a BS in Human Services and Counseling. I got a lot of personal support from the professors, and guidance. The professors are a mixed bag of high caliber and some that have more to be desired. Small classes were abundant here and coming from small town VT I did not feel overwhelmed as the student body was not over 1200 students. Looking back sometimes I wished I went to a larger university in a urban center, but I did get a good solid liberal education from a straight forward no frills college in the beautiful hills of the northeast Kingdom of Vermont. I attended Lyndon and received a BS in Elementary Education. The course work and professors were great. I was in the local public elementary schools as an aid when I was a sophomore. I had hands on experience that lasted me my life. The education I received from Lyndon has served me well. I was a classroom teacher for 20 years and now I am a middle school principal. Lyndon State College is now part of the University of Northern Vermont.I graduated from Lyndon State College in 1966. In my day,the facilities at Lyndon State College were barebone.Nevertheless,it gave me the opportunity to develop my academy skills.I was a mediocre high school student.I found the professors and instructors to be very devoted to the subjects they taught .I relished the simplicity of the school and the charm of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.Eventually,I received my Master's Degree from a large university and became a school teacher for thirty-three years. read more

Alumni 2010.. yeah i graduated.. and to say the least.. the staff gives 2 s-its about you and your endevors...I've experienced FAR better at Castleton State. Remember to be optimistic with campus tours. The campus is really dirty they haven't gotten a handle on the recycling issue, dorms are disgusting, they have timer air spray things in hallways around campus that mace you as you walk around. They don't clean... everything is always dirty.. always sticky.. computer labs espc... and where is the staff to fix stuff that's broken like heavy use printers when you're trying to hammer out a term paper before handing it in 5 mins before it's due. I'm just saying that this place leave a lot to be desired from the staff and the people that work here that call themselves "professors." They're really just out to get the next batch of people in the door and check out young college women. If you're a guy; you're f'd... they won't help you. If you're a hot chick, yeah they're always there day and night. Too much focus on sports teams; it's DIVY 3 idiots.. who cares? No one... and poor Prof. Mike Miller needs more support for his projects on making the campus a biodiverse habitat.... It really is a place that sets you up for failure.. I graduated with a degree but am not in the field, my professors didnt' care.. they really didn't care what I was doing or how I wanted to get there. They kept telling me "everything is not black and white" which I tried to agree with them about; but quite honestly this place sets you up to be in debt and in a situation that will fail your long term goals. read more

I attended LSC from 2008-2012, and graduated with a double major in Social Sciences and Global Studies. I cannot say enough good things about Lyndon. The small class sizes allowed for in depth discussion and close relationships with peers and professors, something that may not have been as easy to find at a larger university. Lyndon provided me with endless leadership opportunities, hands on experience, and a strong network that I have utilized to find internships and work opportunities during my undergrad as well as upon graduating. The staff at Lyndon were always more than accommodating and welcoming, and I still maintain relationships with many of my professors today. My four years at Lyndon were wonderful, and I would recommend LSC to anyone looking for a great education within a close knit community. read more
