Bought a donut some bread and cookies few weeks ago and there was a hair in all of them and hair all over the donut case I went a looked in the window for the bakery and deli and saw that the bakery person had no beard gaurd on. For context, I no longer work for this company. I used to work at Dakotamart and I got a new department manager Doug (in replacement of my former one who was also my mom). He comes in on his 2nd day and tells me that the oven had to be set to 400° or the bread will be undercooked. Now me who has been working here for over a year(and was trained by mom who was a professional certified baker)told him he's wrong that I has to be set to 375° so it bakes at 400° because it's commercial not conventional and that commercial oven have to be set 15-20° cooler that what you want it to bake at. This was at 4 in the morning before the store opened, and the store manager (Tim)arrived. When the store manager arrived, my department manager went to talk to him and then they both wanted to talk to me about how "we aren't going to do things the way you're mom did" I was thinking ok but all the breads and everything are going to be overbaked and no one will buy anything. I would also like to mention that he overstuffed our shelves and ruined everything we put out Also the store manager and my new manager (not my mom) were friends so that's why I wasn't listened to about the oven. A supermarket and liquor store and souveneir store all rolled into one. After eating some Mexican food down the street, we decided to pick up some snacks and alcohol before we headed into the Badlands. We immediately make a mad dash for the liquor store section. We bought some whiskey, two six packs of beer, one bottle of white wine and one bottle of red wine. Yes, we are serious about our drinking. In any case, the XY member of our entourage chatted up our clerk and we soon found that we needed to visit Scenic. The clerk desperately wanted us to visit Scenic, which was her hometown. More on that later... As we checked out, the clerk said to our XY member, "Have a good night. I don't want to know what you'll be up to!" And after that comment, we all burst out in laughter. Here is a white dude being escorted by three Asian females with a whole shopping cart full of booze headed into the Badlands. It could only mean one thing...hahaha. Get your head out the gutter. Manager Tim Murphy met my quite unusual request with your basic South Dakota "No Problem!" attitude. It involved my making the request by phone from Wisconsin, making a delivery for me there in Pierre, and accepting payment from my Rhode Island bank! He kept his word to call me back within minutes with his solution to the request, and his quick, easy, and kind willingness to make the local delivery. As a 1963 Riggs High School grad, it was refreshing to once again deal with the Midwestern Attitude - helpful, friendly, courteous and kind! Thanks, Tim! Full-service grocery store and more. I prefer this place over the other options in town. They it only carry a wide variety, but the manager will try to stock what you request if it's not already an item they carry. Large store. Small town. Great people! read more

This place has it all- groceries etc upstairs and an amazing fishing, hunting, camping store downstairs that is not to be missed.

I was trying to keep my business local and decided to visit the Dakotamart in Pierre and I bought a fishing rod in the Sporting goods section along with about $150 worth of other items. I took the rod out fishing on one occasion and caught a 1 or 2 pound catfish and as I was reeling the monster in the tip of the rod snapped off. Now thinking this wouldn't be that big of a deal I decided to contact Lynn's Dakotamart in Pierre. I explained to them exactly what had happened and I was told there wasn't anything that they could do. REALLY!!! I was told that that were not excepting any returns on anything. Nothing from outside of the store could come back in. Now this doesn't make sense considering the Covid pandemic. You won't except returns on any item that you sale and state that you can't allow anything from outside back into the store because of this pandemic but you will except every dollar in my pocket. Its been my experience that money goes through more hands than anything and typically probably has been in worse places than most other pieces of paper have but yet you can't take back this piece of crap rod you sold me or even give me my money back!!!!! So now I have a broken rod and minus money in my pocket and now have to go elsewhere to buy a new rod. Thanks Dakotamart!!!! You have lost a long time customer!!!! Unbelievable!!!! read more

Terrible grocery store. Employees are often mistaken about what products the store carries, prices are exorbitant, and I have had several dinner parties ruined because ingredients that I've purchased "fresh" had gone bad on the shelves. Selection is also lacking severely. read more
