Ghs Federal Credit Union - Front St. Binghamton branch

    Ghs Federal Credit Union

This is the latest in the ongoing nightmare that is my relationship with GHS Federal Credit…read moreUnion... Today, when attempting to buy coffee, I was told that my card was declined. This was strange, because I knew for a fact that I had money in my account (unless GHS had taken money out of my account without my knowledge, as they're wont to do). Researching, I came to find out that GHS was "renovating" its online banking service. Part of this renovation includes, apparently, voiding the debit cards of all its users (I'm not kidding) in preparation for a new, upgraded line of cards. You would think that in preparation for such a comprehensive overhaul new debit cards would have been sent out well ahead of time. Well, I never received one. On the website where the ramifications of this update are enumerated, nowhere does it explicitly state: "All debit cards will be voided by [this date]", a stipulation that you'd think they'd want to make abundantly clear. In fact, because of this maintenance issue, all branches are essentially closed for three days, during which time I cannot even check the balance of my accounts. What this means is, I don't have access to the funds in my account, and I don't know when I'll be able to access them again. I've had issues like this literally every other day with GHS, and it's gone past the condition of manageable annoyance to the point where I'm experiencing legitimate mental trauma that could very well have physical consequences. It is ALWAYS SOMETHING with this bank. Because I have certain direct deposits associated with this account that take months to readjust, I am stuck in this situation for the time being. All I can do, it seems, is attempt to warn potential customers of this bank's unbelievable incompetence. It's not just that I've never experienced these kind of problems with another bank: I never imagined that I would have this level of conflict with any institution, outside of a nightmare.

It's now really become impossible to get through to these people! It used to be WAY better. You still had to pay an amazing charge to pay on the phone (and there is no other way to pay from anywhere outside of Binghamton) but at least you could call and pay. Now, these last months, the IRS is way easier and that is no joke. I call and on hold for over 45 minutes plus easily no matter when I call. It's put my loan very late the last payment because I work overnight and extra hours; I just don't have the energy all the time to wait the amazing wait time to get through. Don't even think pressing 1 to get a call back works; I have yet to get a call back and gone through this torture several times. Just getting insane; I've never run into so many problems making a payment in my life.

They took over $500 out of my bank account in monthly fees during the first month. I spoke to Jim Warneck, Who is the VP of operations and he told me to go F off. I opened a visa about a year ago and i shut down my card and then GHS started charging monthly fees on with that. After paying my $500 credit limit card, Ghs took out a $25 fee and never told me about it. I was "Late" on 5 months due to GHS and there scam. I have been called discrimination by there upper management including there own CEO Shawn Wolbert. They do not care about there members one bit and will scam every dim out of you. If i wear you STAY AWAY FROM GHS they will rob you blind and threaten you.

From the owner: Since the beginning, we have been committed to fulfilling our core mission of "people helping…read morepeople". GHS is an excellent, hard-working example of the credit union movement's philosophy - not for profit, not for charity, but for service. As a member, you become part owner of this credit union. We are a financial cooperative, democratically controlled by our members/owners and governed by a volunteer board of directors. Currently, GHS consists of three branches, an extensive No-Fee network of ATMs, more than 15,000 members, and more than $130 million in assets. Our management team is very experienced and our staff is both knowledgeable and friendly. We balance the needs of our members with conservative and responsible lending practices. This combined with efficient and clean accounting practices have proved to be a winning combination and is especially reassuring for staff and members during these current turbulent economic times.
