I started walking to the public library in Yukon when I was a very little boy; back then it was across from the old Post Office and was run by Miss Mabel Fry herself. Now, Miss Fry adored children; she would help us select books to read. (She lived to be ancient, you see, and had even been librarian during both my father's childhood and my grandmother's childhood. My great-great grandfather had homesteaded near Yukon.) The old library, a Carnegie library off downtown, has been long closed. The new library sits on the old Route 66 just west of town. I've seldom had the chance to visit, as I live in Oklahoma City. That said, I know that Pets and People holds its annual banquet and auction at this facility. read more

I don't take advantage of what this library has to offer like I should! I finally took my son to the reading time and it was a great activity to get out of the house and do something. If you go, pick up the calendar to see all the fun events that are happening that month. They have activities for all age groups! Everyone here was super nice and my toddler had a great time looking at books, playing with legos, and listening to stories during the story time. Great little activity to add to our week! read more

Would just like to mention when bringing your child to a class you're not allowed to sit in. After mentioning to the "teacher" that my child has aspergers she proceeded to tell me I still couldn't stay in the room and was rude asking if he was allowed to even participate or if he would freak out. We went to a summer reading kick off event and they would not hang up my kids art work because "it has too much white left and I don't like it." They also would not let her help decorate the rocketship with the other kids because they "do not want scribbles on our stuff". Thank you for telling my kid that she isn't good enough. read more
