Wow! What a wonderful addition to downtown North Saint Paul! Mac's is BEAUTIFUL! Gorgeous tall ceilings, pristine windows that let in alllll the natural light, retro booths, a great open concept, and just enough historical charm to entice your eyes as you sit. I came here on a Tuesday night for AYCE crab legs. I had read the rules online, so I knew that coming at 7:15pm would mean we didn't get the full 90 minutes of service (the crab legs stop flowing at 8:30pm SHARP!), but I was willing to risk it and hoping for fast service. I was not disappointed! Our server was quick on refills. Between the three of us, we ate almost 30 clusters of crab, one mule, one Hamms, and three plates of fries. The crab was excellent! Especially for AYCE. The journey starts with two clusters (claw included), fries, and butter. Once you finish each cluster, you can get another order. Despite being full of patrons, we rarely had to wait longer than 2-3 minutes per round. I think they must boil the crab with some Old Bay, which lended itself to a great flavor. Each leg was meaty and easy to crack. They came out PIPING hot. So fresh. Nothing nasty hanging on like you find with low quality crab. The butter was clarified and refills on that were equally fast. I'm a dunker, not a dipper. I tried to avoid the fries to maximize the room for crab, but they were so good that I had to sneak some. Flavored really well, fresh, and crispy. Crinkle cut! Ketchup on the table! AYCE crab is market price, which was $37 that night. Such a fair price for how much we ate and how good it was. My Hamms came as a tall boy, nice and chilly, and was only $4. For an extra $3, you can get a bump of liquor on their cocktail menu. This place is a gem. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu! read more

Super cool "newer" diner in North St Paul. Great eclectic upbeat music played with a ton of tvs during game days. We waited a total of 5 minutes before sitting down at a comfy booth next to the bar. The menu serves breakfast all day...yum! I decided on a southwest salad while my hubby decided on the Mac daddy burger...gone from his plate and in his belly within 5 minutes. Kiddo got a chicken tenders platter with crinkle cut fries. They had a great selection of draft beers and my mule was out of this world using tattersall blueberry. Great service and atmosphere. The last day of Lenten fishfrys. I've never been here and wanted to mix up the usual places this year. We started wit a delicious crock of Mac's chowder. Fish was 3 generous pieces of crunchy cod. Coleslaw was flavorless. The fries are served in a separate metal container that is much appreciated. I'm surprised at how much room is inside and we didn't have to wait. I got a rootbeer. Basil got the strongest iced tea I ever tasted. Hunter is definitely a seasoned waitress here. I'm coming back for all 3 meals. The patio looks fun. read more

Macs has quickly become our go to spot. For dinner or breakfast, dine in or take out. Weird note to make but the take out containers are the best around, I know it's weird but if you know you know. I usually get the Mac daddy or rodeo smash but the BLTA or chicken sandwich are also great. The breakfast is top notch, the Mac's omelette is one of the best I've ever had. The coffee is always hot and good. Service is good, once or twice when we've gone in they've been a little understaffed but it's still an enjoyable experience. Whatever the reason, after passing Mac's Diner, DT NSP, one snowy day afternoon I knew I needed to check it out! I was so happy I did. I gathered the troops for Friday night Fish Fry delight! Mind you, my uncles are from Northern Wisconsin and understand (survive off?) a good fish fry, and after ordering at Mac's they were not disappointed. A perfection of crisp/juicy/flaky breading made this a hit at our table. I ordered one of their speciality Moscow Mules -- which was all of my dreams in one cup (okay three cups by the time the evening ended). I wanted to order the Banana Cream Pie, but came during a snowstorm week and the shipment was unable to arrive in time for MY arrival (lol jk), so I guess I'll just have to return for more. Above all, the overall ambiance is classy, well decorated, yet comfortable and casual simultaneously. More than that, the staff is amazing! Our waitress was a gift, in spite of a busy Friday night, she took time to genuinely check-in, grab the orders we needed, and share her insider secrets on best menu items. I went to Mac's Diner for a birthday dinner last night & there was a MN Twins event there with Lou & LaVelle who did a great job entertaining us. The MN Twins starting pitcher Lou Varland was there to reveal a new hamburger named after him. It was a clean, fun & busy place. The food is delicious. There is a bar too! I was never there before but plan to go back to eat & shop the small local businesses across the street. I recommend the appetizers, burgers & peanut butter pie.
