You dont get rushed on like in some libraries, and are allowed to sit around for hours reading even if you're not borrowing the books. There is a few computers with internet access, but they've always all been taken up when i've been in, so i dont know if they charge, or how much. The entrance hall is large and doubles up as an information centre with loads of events posters for the local area in. good disabled facilities too.

Crewe Library isn't my closest library, but is bigger and I find is often worth the effort to go…read morethat bit further for more choice. The place has plenty of staff to help you hunt down the item you are after. As an avid movie watcher, the dvd section is particularly impressive stocking a range of titles from feature films through to tv box sets, many of the latest dvd movie releases soon find their way onto their shelves. The internet stations which are located close to the entrance, of which there are many, are always manned by a member of staff, offering help and advice for the users so there's no need for you techno-phobes out there to shy away from using the web! The fiction section is always well stocked, and if the book you want is not in stock, a speedy order service soon makes it available for a small fee. As you may or may not know, there are many other services that your local library offers, and I have to admit I only touch on a few of them, but give them a try, as especially in these hard financial times it's worth remembering most of them are free!

On one side of it is a library stuffed with books and lots of ones aimed at kids, whereas the other side seems dedicated to community groups and has some computers for working and surfing the web. I was here for the fortnightly Lego club (check it out on FB) where you can go down and take your kids to build models in a relaxed setting from their in house Lego (there's loads of it) - a really cool project and community - I can't wait till next week's one!

It is a vast building filled to the rafters with every book on any topic you can imagine. It is the biggest library in Stockport. On the main floor you can nosey at all the books, use the internet for free (which you have to book in advance), browse the dvds and pick up information on classes and courses available in Stockport. Upstairs is the reference library which houses thousands of newspapers on film, maps, reference books, magazines and newspapers, and some wonderful historic books about Stockport. The staff are so helpful and will assist you to find any book you require. You can take out a library card and borrow up to 10 books at any time.

Users now no longer seem to respect the library Quietness and it now has the feel of a supermarket were people speak at full volume. I think the library has lost a lot. Maybe the new open feeling is what people want and they don't want libraries to be quite places any more.

Brough Park has been renovated to include a new gym, a swimming pool, badminton and squash courts…read moreand a large hall for other activities such as judo and tae kwando, so it is very popular with local families. The gym is small, but has all the equipment you need, including cross trainers, treadmills, rowing machines, steppers and bikes. The fitness room provides a range of classes, including aerobics, body pump and yoga to name but a few. The pool provides aqua classes as well as swimming and lessons, and the centre staff also provide kids activities during holiday periods. It is a great addition to the area and very popular, with free parking.

There are crêche facilities avaliable, and regular tuition groups in spanish, guitar and other skills. The childrens library is large, and it is designed specifically for children in mind, with a lots of books, toys and a relevant colour scheme. There are computers on the top and bottom floor, each with a relatively uncensored access to the internet.

There's a decent graphic novel section, loads of chick lit (for my wife of course ;-) ) and if you have kids then you'll be pleased to know that there's a huge section for them - where they also have regular story time sessions. There's a few good computers in there to browse the net and with it being fairly quiet it's basically very easy to return books on their computer system or with a librarian. It is right…read morenext to a beautiful park named Alexandra park which has a huge bowling green, 2 parks, fishing lakes and ponds to feed the ducks, in the summer there's often bands planning by the large bowling green and many a days out can be spent here as a family. The libraries location means especially during school holidays you can kill many birds with one stone. The library has an extensive range of books to suit all ages and also a lot of activities on for mums and babies during mid week, it's ideal to attend these then take baby onto the park next door or for a walk around the lake. Very pleasant day out.
