"But woahhh, wait a minute there, you've given it four stars smart arse...", I hear you cry. Well it's no mistake. No, this long serving proprietor of children's goodies has been nudged up a star simply because of its name, which continues to be the best of any business in the city. Aptly situated in the historic Trongate area, this shop has now become a Glaswegian institution and continues to raise a chuckle with locals while baffling visitors on a regular basis. Party on!
Okay, I do agree with Adam on principal; kids are kids; they generally don't care what they wear…read moreand if they do they opt for the Buzz Lightyear costume over the Diesel jeans any day, and will then proceed to get whatever they wear covered in mud, paint, pasta sauce and porridge. So, when all is said and done, expensive clothes for kids are a big no-no in my book. However... my sometimes overwhelmingly ridiculous side cannot help but be bowled over by the sight of a three year old in a military style woolen coat. Something along the lines of how I react to Pets At Home. OHOSOCUTE!! And you know, sometimes I think it strengthens the bond between mother and child by having the child dressed so smartly, so... sometimes - SOMETIMES it's worth getting the high quality stuff and keeping your child away from all puddles and ice-cream on days they're wearing it. The rest of the time, I do think wasting money in such a fashion is insane. But for those special times - head along here and ease your fashion minded desires by taking them out on your kids. It'll be worth it someday.... ok, maybe not.
Ok folks i just don't get it. I cant actually bring myself to understand why in the name of jebus…read morewe are obsessed with clothing our kids in ridiculously overpriced clothing. As i may have mentioned in my review for another kids store in the city (see love it again) i'm pretty sure that kids are those small things that play with mud, roll down hills and generally do messy, dirty things on a daily basis. So, answer me this why are we dressing them in designer gear when a hessian sack would be more appropriate....hmmm and a possible business idea!! That said however, if your of the opinion that your child should match you in your designer gear then this place will provably suit you and judging by the amount of time this store has been in business, it looks like there are a few of you out there. With cool signage, funky window displays and a name that will always appeal (any Beatles related place will always have a look in) Strawberry Fields is the benchmark and elder statesman of the designer gear for kids emporiums. You say Dolce and Gabbana..i say hessian sack.

You pretty much get what it says in here…read more I feel like this shop suffers from its location. A few minutes' walk in one direction brings you to a louder, brasher shop (Heritage of Scotland) and a few minutes' walk in the other and you're at a cooler shop (Slanj). Its' quiet, middle ground position belies the fact that they actually have some lovely stuff. I got some tartan tights in here and, although fashionable now, at the time they were quite unusual. Beware the tourist tack though!
...exactly what is says in the name…read more From tourist-style tack, like the nessie keyrings, faux tartan trousers, cheapy kilts, etc, it also sells cashmere jumpers of decent quality for around £30+. My friend managed to get tartan tights, a tartan hat, and some other touristy type items for her forgein friends (a tartan scarf - that's it!), all for a good price. The girl behind the counter is also really nice and chatty. Worth a visit if you're needing something tartan-or-cashmere-tastic.

I popped in for a super quick look - I was contemplating getting a coffee but then thought better of it seeing it was already late afternoon. I did notice that Papercup don't just do coffee though, there's also a small selection of cakes on offer. Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. In this area, I can't think of any other independent coffee shops so I'd definitely pop back for a coffee next time I'm in Royal Exchange Square.

I had a quick look around, it's a nice space, clothes and sneakers downstairs, barber through the back, Papercup up front. A nice modern addition to Royal Exchange Square, the logo for the Forty range were designed by the owners kid, which is a nice touch, and I'm so happy that Papercup are now in the city centre! Definitely be back to do some shopping, and of course, get some good coffee!!

Of course, the plan fell down when I realised that he was no longer of the age where they still order sizes by months. The clothes are cool, a little expensive but well made and stylish. The staff were very patient as I tried to work out my nephew's size, and made good suggestions even when I went on about his hobbies, in the hope that would help me. One warning: this site is one that seems to struggle. In the past few years, it has changed hands frequently- it used to be a great Green Tea shop cafe. I hope that Peace can overcome the history.

You could rack through the pretty, quirky kids clothes for ages! They host an eclectic assortment of clothes for children up to 8 years, from quaint looking plaid dresses to punky duds for romping tots. It's probably the only shop I've ever been to where I've seen a skull sweatband for a 2 year old, and my wee baby cousins would like the wee combat trousers and camoflage tops. My cousin recently surprised us with a baby (when I say surprised I mean she told us after she had popped Noah out) so I made an impromptu shopping expidition to buy some new baby pressies. It was a whole load of fun but whoa, the prices are steep. I bought a dummy, rompersuit and jumper and it cost my an arm and a leg - almost caught me off guard as much as her having a surprise September baby did. So if you're going to go nuts spending like I did, be prepared for the cost. But with the friendly staff and seriously cute knitted pirate jumpers, it's the kind of place you would be willing to part with money in. Maybe it's just as well I don't have a bambino just yet, as I'd probably spend more money in here, kitting my baby out to be a mini punk rocker, than buying food and prams and all that necessary nonsense! It's cool that a baby shop exists where you can find some cute and different gifts.

The little cosy hoodies in particular are just, awwwwwwwww!! As Eleanor mentioned the ratio of boys to girls clothes is a lot more even than most other kids clothing stores. There is a lot more variety, colour and style wise in the boys section than you'll find in other stores also. As you would expect the clothes in Baby Gap are quite expensive but the quality is as good as the adult Gap clothes. One thing I found great about this shop is that they have a 50/50 split boys and girls clothes, in fact, it may even be 55 boys. My friend has recently had a baby boy and I've noticed that many shops seem to have more girls clothes than boys, so I think it's great that Baby GAP have just as much choice. The shop is bright, clean and very well organised so it's easy to find the sizes that you're looking for. They had some super cute baby grows, little booties and even miniature GAP hoodies but at £17.50 they don't come cheap - you wouldn't want baby food spilt down that! There were a few staff working who greeted me with a smile even though they were helping other customers which was nice.

Stockists of designer makes and elaborate communion and Christening gowns, it is definitely a good place to visit if you need any of the latter. In saying that, the shop does stock a huge range of stuff, so it is quite unlikely you'll leave empty handed, as the stuff is just adorable. The last thing I bought here was a beautiful red silk party dress for my daughter. You can be sure they will always have something special in stock and its the only place I went to for special occassion outfits when my kids were younger. One great thing about buying special outfits here is that the owner only ever gets in one of each size per style,so you can be sure there wont be loads of little girls in the same dress at the party. Yes its more expensive than asda or tesco but its not pretending to be a budget store,it is something special, the ranges are great and change frequently with the seasons and fashions, lovely quality clothing and something a bit different to what everyone elses kids are wearing. You can put together a complete seasonal wardrobe from their ranges easily. For designer stuff its not too expensive with the average cost per item being £20.They also have outfit sets of 3 or 4 items for about £45-60.Thats good value. The thing I never really understand about Matalan is the need for cards. Why do they have them? It used to be that you had to have a card to buy anything, but on my more recent visit, I noticed they had slackened up on that, and it's now used for more of a rewards card than store ID. This store has everything; kids, women's and men's clothes, shoes and home ware. They have a brilliant underwear section and sell branded bras at less than half price. They even have Calvin Klein boxers at £9 a pack, which is less than half price, ideal for Xmas or Birthday pressies! I used the services that M Party provides for my 21st birthday party, and had cream and pink balloons with lovely little shimmery weights and bits and bobs for decorating the hall, all for under £100, which was amazing value! You have to collect the balloons yourself but that wasn't a problem. They have table decorations, age specific decorations and buffet ware, which is all fairly priced and available in every colour imaginable! They also make up banners if you want them, although I felt they were a bit pricey. Huge store with loads of bargains!
