A truly unique gift will be found at the Artists Market! Some of the items included earnings, greeting cards, baby gifts, candles, soaps, and the list goes on and on. I myself found a beautiful pair of handmade earrings that I could not pass up. Staff was helpful and complimented my purchase with a comment of herself having to go check out the earrings, since they were just showcased. My purchase was wrapped up in pretty tissue paper. Apparently, she is the daughter-in-law of the recently deceased patriarch of the owner's family. Personally, some of the art is a little too bright and borders on garish colors, but others are quite nice. She has had much artistic training as well as varied exhibits. My favorite piece in her store was a sofa that you see as soon as you enter which she has loving painted on with cheery flowers on the part where your back would be touching while sitting. It is very unique and would be a jewel in any room. It is worth a look see if you are already in the Grand Hotel.

The ticket can be purchased at bottom entrance. The elevation different is 150 feet from ticket booth to entrance. From sea level is 320 feet. The fort has 20 point of interest. That includes store house, bathhouse, reading room, block house, old hospital, gun platform and more. The experience includes dress up historic solder uniforms. There are several buildings that can be explored. That includes some film explaining the fort. This historic British military fort is important high point in the island. Now it is important tourists attraction and historic center.

The fort is staffed by energetic college students and reenactors who are dedicated to educating the public about life at Fort Mackinac. It includes a wash house, a commissary, barracks, a hospital, and officers quarters. Inside the soldier's barrracks there is also a very well done museum dedicated to the early settlers and Anishnaabeck peoples. Its view over the harbor is impressive, and there is a restaurant where you can have lunch if you'd like. It is definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere near Mackinac Island.
