It was just some basic coffee that has a $8 price tag. Not a latte or anything, just regular coffee. I didn't think it had much flavor at all. For my meal I ordered the Madame Baked Omelette. As described on the menu it was supposed to be Brie, Granny Smith apples and sausage. The Brie and apples were there, but it was lacking sausage. I didn't see it taste any sausage at all. It might have been finely crumbled, but it was basically non existent. The omelette came with either potatoes or fruit. I ordered with fruit and it came out with potatoes. Our waitress did rectify the situation quickly. My friend ordered a side of fries and pretzels. For her drink she got s'mores coffee. Eh. Mack's is officially the hottest mess of a restaurant I've ever been to, this place is an absolute sinking ship for so many reasons, and I'll start by giving the reason why I gave two stars. 1) Decor- The place does look very nice, alluring and bright, tight space but they do have an upstairs, bar area has plenty of seats and people can walk between tables without being too on top of the other person. 2) Our Waitress- Jaimee S is amazing. She was the shining star of our disaster of a lunch. She was funny, personable, apologetic, upbeat, professional, down to earth, and just handling the situation the best she could which was very sweet. Everything else is a dumpster fire. The drinks were terribly mixed, the rest of the staff looked miserable, the kitchen was in rebellion, and I'm pretty sure the Chef lied on his resume. No one can communicate, they fired the wrong orders, the bussers were getting flack for stuff they didn't do, the potatoes weren't flavored, they delivered the wrong food, the wait was over an hour, it was just an absolute disaster. On the upside, there is so much potential. The menu has great options, if the kitchen knows how to cook any of it, and the variety is massive, they just got overwhelmed. The owner does not know how to run a restaurant. Simple as that. Jaimee really made us laugh the whole thing off, because we could see into the kitchen and see staff literally screaming at each other, the chef just throwing up his hands saying forget this, and everyone else in the restaurant was pissed. Macks, get it together, or you'll be gone before anybody even thinks of giving you a try. If the manager reads this, give Jaimee a raise or make her head server/manager. Don't be fooled by the menu. It sounds delicious but that's if you ever get your food and even then, it'll taste like you aren't eating anything. Super cute asthetic, love the look of the place and that's where it ends. Service was nonexistent which is incredible given that there are so many people working and they all look busy. No one will check on you, they'll bring you a ton of water but that's it. Be prepared to flag someone down for every need. Better yet, put all your asks in at once because they won't be back. We went to Mack's on a Sunday at 10am. Was expecting there to be a wait because we were a large party. We got in and there wear chocolate dipped biscuits with whipped cream at the front counter to sample. A great little bite. We were seated upstairs right away. The service was good. Our waiter was attentive and the young man bussing the table was very helpful. I had the Burlington Benny. Poached eggs, cooked perfectly, with maple bacon, melted cheddar cheese and hollandaise sauce served on a fresh biscuit. Delicious. The apple corned beef has was good but could have used a little more seasoning. My wife had the vegan street tacos which she said were great. Gorgeous new brunch spot in Babylon! Upon arrival we got little pastries which were light & yummy & the best little surprise! The space itself is stunning. When you walk into the back room it opens up to this light, bright space with greenery & lights everywherTruly couldn't decide what to get because everything on the menu sounded amazing. Ultimately decided on the vegan huevos rancheros which were absolutely divine. Sometimes vegan dishes are hit or miss, but they nailed this dish. However the chairs were these l teeny tiny high top chairs and I'm a thick thighed lady, always have been and I was not on these chair comfortably at all. Then we got some mysterious biscuits they were definitely welcomed but no one told us what it was or what was in it we had to ask the accompanying table. Our server was the bartender and the bar was empty except for two couples. He seemed pretty annoyed by having to wait on us and was not present at all and rarely did a check in. We had the banana bread French toast. It was dense and the syrup help to enhance the flavor. My friend has the hash w eggs and loved it. My other friend had the special it was a benny w avocado bacon and cheese she loved it. I had the French benny it had ham and Gruyère cheese both eggs were poached perfectly. The muffin could've been toasted a bit more but it was still a good bite. Potato's that came we're just ok. Would've loved maybe some onion and peppers added in to add to the flavor. I actually went twice in one week because j thought the first time was maybe a fluke - I was wrong. Once on a Thursday evening and once on a Saturday morning for brunch. The Thursday evening was quiet as expected, we walked in and there were 2 other tables eating and one table that looked like they just left. Quickly after we sat down, the other 2 tables left and all 3 tables were left untouched and left with stacks of dirty plates, napkins etc, for the length of our dinner (about an hour and a half). Towards the end they started to clean up one and then stopped and left the big tub on the table. The 3 workers that were there stood by/sat at the bar with their drinks and Chit chatted and texted. Not a soul was in the dining room but my friend and I. The waitress seemed bothered ontop of that to even be helping us. We ordered the blackened salmon and tomato soup with grilled cheese. The smallest piece of salmon, and like 4 sprigs of asparagus that was chewy. The grilled cheese and soup came without a spoon and it took us a while to get one, and the soup was more like sauce than soup. Fast forward to Saturday for brunch we get seated, party of 4, and we order our drinks. 2 of us get our drinks immediately while the other 2 waited a bit. After a while our waitress comes back to say the espresso machine is down and she cannot make one of the drinks and then after a bit longer comes back with his drink but no 4th drink. The food showed up before the last drink. The coffee was bitter to start. I ordered a Benedict - poached eggs came out cold and not poached but almost cooked entirely through. The lox in my dish were old tasting and the biscuit (I think that's what it was) was hard and stale. An order of the marinated steak and eggs was received with old overcooked cold steak and cold scrambled eggs. The eggs were supposed to come with cheese and when asked for, the waitress brought 2 cold slices of kraft American cheese. The chicken and waffles came with an undercooked, soggy, waffle, with piping hot chicken. Last dish seemed to make it out ok-ish. Bacon was hard as a rock tho. The staff seemed better on the Saturday but the waitress we had seemed to have no idea what was happening. it's possible it was a first day or first few shifts so I'm taking that with a grain of salt because she was kind and attentive for the most part. The staff needs to either be spoken to, changed, or there needs to be adult supervision on deck at all times. Or just better management period. The chefs ...I'm not even sure what to say about them. Wow, what an awesome find. Mack's in Babylon is a breakfast/lunch spot that is innovative, relaxed, and serves really good food. If you like Jams in Massapequa Park, you'll love Mack's. Mack's offers food that is a step up from the usual diner, it's creative and the setting is bright; it's like a warm country home setting, with a lot of well placed rustic decor. I've had lunch and breakfast here and the portions are just right - just a little more than I can eat, LOL! The fried chicken was juicy and not dry, the breakfast potatoes were really delicious and they were very generous with the bacon. The owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming. They showed me the upstairs room where one can rent out for a private party; it was like stepping "outside" to a beer garden. The lox and avocado toast was a thick difficult to chew piece of bread with avocado slapped on that had no taste. The lox was just there. They forgot to season it completely, I had to request everything seasoning but even with the seasoning, this dish could not be saved. The potatoes had zero seasoning as well. Overall, Mack's should look into how to season food properly because our meals were tasteless. Came in on a Saturday afternoon around 1:00pm. Cute atmosphere, but that's about it. Service was nonexistent. Takes forever for one of the staff members to check on you, although they are walking by, looking busy. My husband and I ordered "the local" 2 eggs over easy, toast, bacon & home fries. sounds pretty basic but boy, it was certainly a challenge for this restaurant to execute. 3 of our 4 eggs were NOT over easy and were cooked well done. The toast was simply cold bread. We spoke with wait staff, requesting our 3 eggs to be over easy, as originally requested & for toasted bread. Each item slowly trickled out, one egg, then a plate with 2 more eggs, then the toast. this allowed us to eat our meal in rounds, i mean who wanted to eat together anyway at a restaurant??!! Upon receiving our bill, the waiter was so kind to mention that he "only" charged us for 1 of the 3 "extra" eggs we ordered. We explained that we did not order extra eggs, we had to have our original order redone, as it was incorrect. after explaining this to him, he finally agreed to remove the charge. the toast came out..:toasted on one side, but hey, that's one more side than we originally received. nothing is on the table, nor presented with the meal. So as our food sits there getting cold, we needed to flag down someone, anyone for butter, coffee refill, water and ketchup. the menu states "add corned beef hash +3" yet when we got the bill, they charged us $8; insisting that we ordered a side order. Again, after speaking with 2 separate people about the charge, it was finally removed. after all of this, we asked to speak to the manager & we're told that s/he stepped out for a couple hours; which completely makes sense after seeing how this place is run If you are thinking of giving this place a try-don't. don't get fooled by the menu, go across the street to Glen's Dinette. would not recommend to anyone. ****edit in response to owners reply, as this does not allow me to directly respond to comments. I ordered the Cannoli French Toast, no whipped cream, Biscuits with gravy and my husband had a Burger with mushrooms and Swiss. He loved the Burger. The Biscuits and gravy were delicious. After seeing the Cannoli French toast on Insta and waiting all these months to have it, the presentation was a let down. I did not ask for whipped cream. It was presented as a closed sandwich. The cannoli filling was thin and melted from being in between the hot bread. No chocolate chips thrown on top. It was very good, but if I go back, I would ask for more filling and chips- that's what makes the dish! Our server was attentive until we were finished. We sat with dirty dishes in front of us for at least 5-8 minutes until I asked another server for our check. So I would like to start by saying that the young staff members really did their best to hold this restaurant together, so I don't fault them and they should be applauded. Our party of 5 had a 1:00 brunch reservation on a Sunday. 2 of us got there at 1:40, figured we'd get a mimosa at the bar while we waited. We soon realized that was never happening, as the young bartender was the only person making cocktails for the entire packed restaurant, and there was no chance of getting a drink at the bar. Mmmkay... we felt bad for her so didn't complain. The staff was clearly stressed and forced to turn tables away, didn't have the manpower to even start a waitlist. The rest of our party arrived, we were sat about 1:15, ordered drinks but did not get our first round until almost 2 o'clock. (I had been there since 12:40 lol... so was getting grumpy) The food took a while of course, but was pretty good at least. Our 22 year old waitress was adorable, and ended up making our cocktails following the recipe, and did a good job on them. So here's my confusion. Where the hell was the restaurant owner or manager? What were you thinking leaving a packed restaurant to be run by a few 22 year olds? Yes the life of a restaurateur is tough, but sorry... you have to work weekends. Your place is being held together by a bunch of kids who are probably learning the most important lessons of their lives at your expense. We had a very bad experience this morning from Mack's of Babylon. Ordered a take breakfast for Mother's Day on Wednesday afternoon. Called on Saturday afternoon to confirm. We asked for the name of the person confirming the order- she hung up. Went on Mother's Day morning, 10am, to pick up the order. Had to wait for a table ( even though there seemed to be some open) when we finally sat we were given our water bottles ...without cups had to ask for glasses... the server came back to take our order while telling him he interrupted us and shouted to another server across the room. The food took awhile to come out. When it arrived We realized we were never given silverware. No one was around for a few minutes so my husband got up to ask for some. He was told he had to wait they were just putting them together...... when we started to eat the only thing worth eating was the potatoes on the plate. We ordered pancakes, grilled cheese, salmon, and one person ordered brisket. After about 40 min of waiting we had to call the waitress over to ask to check on the food. She supposedly went but never came back to update us. The kids were starving and we were all getting pretty hangry at this point. After another 15 min I went to ask for a manager. The staff claimed there was no manager or person in charge on the premises. They apologized for the wait but offered no resolve. I told them that if the food wasn't out we would have to leave. Finally a few minutes later the food came out. We sat there with food and no utensils. We had to look for another server to ask for forks. Our waitress never checked on our table at any point to see if we needed anything. The food was not that great. 2/5 stars. We were so annoyed we had to wait almost 1 hour for pancakes for the kids. We had ordered a side of fruit with the pancakes. They gave a small plate with some shriveled up blueberries. A few pieces had mold! Even if the other items were taking longer to prepare they could have served the kids. When we were done eating we had to look for someone to ask for a check. We finally got up and went to the front to get our bill. We expressed our disappointment in the meal and wait time. I insisted to speak with someone. So waitress gets on the phone with the 'manager' to tell them what happened. Finally after having us stand there waiting for another 5 min she goes I'm sorry the manager said we can only offer 10% off your bill. I told her I was not pleased with that at all. Her response was if we didn't pay the full tab she would have to call the cops. I have NEVER had such a terrible dining experience. The service from the front desk staff was fine but the waitress was terrible. All of the staff there seem to move in slow motion. It's a cute spot with nice decor but the food and service was NOT IT for me. So disappointed and a total waste of money! Regarding your response: we did not fully consume our meal. Also, had a server or ANYONE come check on our table we would have addressed our issues with the food. We had to go to the staff at your bar to pay our check because again NO ONE came to even give us a bill. We had been fed up of waiting at that point. If I really wanted to leave without paying I could have easily done. I went to the bar to pay our bill and I was not happy with them offering only 10% off when we were charged an additional 'convenience fee'. Our kids have numerous allergies and we are always thorough with speaking to our server about their menu. Even after giving a printed list of their allergies they still made a mistake and had to prepare all three of our kids' meals all over again as they were made with fries that were prepared in a shared fryer with seafood.
