It is small but full of books of all varieties. I really like coming to this shop. It is quite amazing what you can find in there! Sometimes relatively recent books to older book you have always wanted to read but struggled to find a copy of! Their books are affordable and it's not uncommon to leave with an arm full. There is usually only one member of staff on when you go in as it's a pretty quiet shop but he/she is friendly and often up for a yarn when you go in. If visiting it cold be worth a look to see what gem you may find!

This is the only shop which has a large range of the daily newspapers available (weather permitting of course!). They have plenty of frozen and canned foods. Also fresh bread, rolls and baking from the bakers in Stornoway are available daily. They have a selection of pies and sandwiches each day and on Saturdays they stock several portion of red thai chicken stir fries from the butchers in town which are delicious. This is also the only place in Ness where you can buy petrol or diesel.

Up for some exploring during the wait, I made my way on foot to the Ullapool Bookshop, which was a relatively short walk away. The interior was cozy with books well displayed. I went with a couple items including a picture and text heavy book on the castles of Scotland/United Kingdom. Prices were good.

The book selection is quite extensive, ranging from history, natural world, satire, self help and fiction. Their fiction section was impressive, their display actually included two books I'm currently reading! Their titles felt new and fresh with a really eclectic range. I could have spent a lot more time and a lot more money there if i weren't trying to be good and we were on a tight schedule. The lady working at the shop was lovely, even making sure we were aware of the parody style of the little Ladybird Book The Hipster. Unfortunately it seems not every one had understood the nature of the books. The accept card payments and she was very accommodating to the four of us taking over shop and browsing. I published the book in April 2007. Soon after publication Olde Moss Bookshop in Ullapool, phoned and ordered a number of copies. The books were duly sent and after numerous letters, phones calls, and assurances from Val and Nigel Hollamby, no payments have been made. The Olde Moss Bookshop is the only bookshop in the UK not to pay for the books they ordered from me. It is now coming up to ten years since they placed their order and the books were delivered. Despite all my attempts they still haven't honoured their agreement to pay for them. It is my experience that the Olde Moss Bookshop is a bookshop which exploits authors.
