I'm on a mission to find the best fried pickles in the area -- and unfortunately, Mac's Speed Shop just got bumped way down the list. My husband and his friend (a kind older gentleman who never complains) went in for dinner. His friend ordered the 1/2 lb brisket, which came out dry, chewy, and basically bark. When they brought it up, the manager didn't apologize or try to make it right -- he just said, "I guess we can remake it," and came back with three tiny slices tossed on the table. They honestly thought it was a taste test, but nope -- that was the "remake." His friend just asked for a box so they could be done with it. My husband said the burnt ends were fine but he had to take several antacids immediately after having one of the buffalo chicken dishes. I had been at work so my husband got me food to-go. He read my order straight off the text I had sent -- a Single Cylinder Burger (no tomato), mac and cheese, and fried pickles. They sent him home with a Carolina Double Smash Burger instead, which comes with chili, mustard, and coleslaw (basically a neurodivergent's nightmare combo). The burger and chili texture together were just... mushy chaos. The mac and cheese was dry but edible -- which, sadly, made it the best part of the meal. And then the fried pickles. My quest! The texture and thickness were perfect, but they were spicy. Who thought fried pickles needed to come preheated with chili powder? If you want heat, add it in the dip -- don't hijack the actual pickles. I tried to power through, but this meal was disappointment after disappointment for everyone involved. read more

We were enjoying drinks at the brewery next door recently, and needing some food. I looked up their menu online and called in an order. The hostess who took my order was friendly, and when I picked it up 15 minutes later the staff was very friendly. I got a Buffalo chicken wrap with a side of Mac and cheese, and they were both great. Though if I'm going to be honest, the max and cheese stole the show! There's definitely a reason it's listed on their menu as a most ordered item! Again, the food was good, suitable portions and pricing decent. Their menu has a lot to offer from what I saw and I'd definitely visit this spot or get food to go again! I hate writing negative reviews, but after spending over $170 and having what should have been a special family night completely ruined, I feel compelled to share my experience. To also mention that we have eaten there several times about 10 of us came before we went on our trip to Africa and it was an amazing experience. Food was a little slow getting to the table, but the drinks and the waitress and the food was excellent, so comparing that night to this night is concerning! I was spending Saturday night and fathers day with my sister her husband and a friend...and we rarely get the chance to spend quality time together. We specifically chose Max Speed Shop in Greensboro because we had heard great things about the brisket and beef options. Unfortunately, the entire evening was one disappointment after another. We were told that there was a 1:30 minute possible wait time... for a table, which we understood because it was Father's Day weekend so we had no problem with waiting . Once seated, we ordered drinks, including a watermelon cocktail that was weak, poorly made, and lacked flavor. Management was very aggravated by me asking to either get a new cocktail or to fix or remake this one but with an attitude, he attempted to fix it by offering to add another shot and more watermelon flavoring, but it was still not good but because I wanted the night to go well I just let it go. The service became uncomfortable when our server mentioned she knew my boyfriend from a previous workplace. That was perfectly fine and it was a respectful and friendly interaction, However, after overhearing our family joking about it the incident and how she approached our table to mention that she knew him, she later returned to our table and referred to my brother-in-law as "loud and belligerent." because she overheard him joking about her coming to our table and saying what she said. It felt inappropriate, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. We were there enjoying a family dinner, not looking to be monitored or corrected by staff. Especially since she was the one that came up to our table initially, My Sister was very upset about her calling her husband loud and belligerent. But that wasn't even our biggest issue or disappointment. After waiting even longer, we were informed that the restaurant had run out of brisket and beef altogether! Not one item. Not two items. Nearly all of the beef options we came specifically to order, including the brisket and birria tacos. Let that sink in--a barbecue restaurant on Father's Day weekend ran out of the very products many customers come there for. We don't eat pork for religious reasons, and we had already eaten chicken and fish earlier in the day, so the beef options were exactly why we chose this restaurant. My sister and brother-in-law had already been waiting roughly an hour and a half for food by this point. So i asked to speak to the manager. What upset me the most was management's response. There was no genuine concern, no effort to make things right, no gesture of goodwill, and no sense that they understood how disappointing the experience had been. The attitude was basically, "Sorry, we're out of food." Several other customers actually approached us and said they had experienced similar issues at this location before and would not be returning. I've visited other Max Speed Shop locations and had much better experiences, which makes this even more disappointing. The Greensboro location simply did not live up to the reputation of the brand. When you spend almost $200 you don't expect perfection. You do expect basic customer service, proper inventory planning, professionalism from staff, and management that cares when things go wrong. This was supposed to be a special evening with my sister. Instead, it was a frustrating experience filled with long waits, unavailable menu items, poor service, and management that seemed completely unconcerned. Sadly, I cannot recommend the Greensboro location. read more

We were welcomed with open arms with no wait over here. Their brisket is so amazing, probably the best brisket I ever had. Our server London was the absolute sweetest! I had the chicken and waffles as my entree and I enjoyed every bite. The Bloody Mary's are perfection. Don't hesitate on eating here, it's great! First time here was 5/31/25 while in town visiting family. As an appetizer we had the pork rinds and hush puppies. The pork rinds were really good and the hush puppies were addictive!! The only better hush puppies I've had are at Capt Nance's Seafood in Calabash NC. These were excellent! I ordered the 1/2 chicken with dry rub and fried okra. The okra was hot! And I don't mean spicy. They had just come out of the fryer and were very flavorful. The chicken had a great smoked flavor and was very tender and juicy. Topped everything off with a bourbon and ginger ale. Actually, two of them. Glad I wasn't driving. Staff were great and the service was awesome! The place was very clean and a great family atmosphere. It was a little loud but it was Saturday night and the place was busy. The food here is always consistent. We went to celebrate a birthday and I was happy to see there were some healthy options I could choose from while trying to watch my portions and eat healthier. I chose the chopped salad with pulled chicken on it. My only complaint is that when I think of chopped salad, I think of all the items diced smaller where everything melds together better. This was more of a traditional salad for me with rough chopped larger pieces. It was delicious but I would prefer a real chopped salad style. I emphasize one drink because as we were drinking our drink and eating, our waitress closed our tab out and we didn't get a chance to order anything else. My wife works near Mac's and we recently got the opportunity to have lunch here on a Thursday afternoon. The exterior is industrial which we love, there is also ample parking. We were taken to a table by a hostess and provided menus. Our server, Brayla stopped in and introduced herself and took our drink orders. We immediately thought this would be a great place to watch a game or other sporting event as there are multiple tv's throughout. The menu is large and they offer various items from burgers to salads to bbq plates. Brayla was very friendly and attentive and shared some of her favorite items with us. My wife ended up ordering the brisket platter which was priced high in our opinion but offered 1/2 pound of brisket that she could easily take home for leftovers. She chose coleslaw for her side. I chose the NC Western burger with the aioli on the side and mac and cheese as my side. We also ordered hush puppies to share. The hush puppies were brought to us just a few minutes before our entrees arrived and looked good but they were much smaller than what we are used to. They run a special for dining in which is a fantastic deal, $1.50 for a small basket with unlimited refills, and proceeds are donated to local youth organizations. My wife was not impressed with the brisket at all. She loves a good brisket and this was really dry, she is used to brisket being more expensive than some other meats on restaurant menus but $25.00 plus for dry brisket is really disappointing. In addition, shortly after we placed our orders we were told the coleslaw was not available and my wife had to choose another item. She decided on the collard greens. I really enjoyed my burger, Mac and cheese and hush puppies. Overall, Mac's has a lot of positives going on and maybe we happened to hit a "bad brisket" day and we should try it again. I'm usually pretty flexible when it comes to dining out, but unfortunately our recent visit left a lot to be desired. I'll start with the positives--our server was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and clearly doing their best to make everyone feel welcome, which we appreciated. The kids' meals were also a hit, so at least the little ones left happy. However, the rest of the meal was pretty underwhelming. I ordered a salad (which, in hindsight, may not have been the smartest choice at a BBQ place), but it was still disappointing by basic standards. The chicken was among the worst I've ever had. The tomatoes were mushy and didn't seem fresh at all. I had to keep spitting pieces out until I eventually gave up. We also ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, which are usually one of my favorites. Sadly, these were so overly salted, again the kids didn't care, we ate as much as we could as I hate to waste money. It's rare for me to leave fried pickles on the plate, but these just didn't hit the spot. My husband ordered the brisket, which was okay. It lacked a little flavor on its own, though the variety of sauces on the table helped it a bit. Nothing to rave about, but he enjoyed it. One thing to note--if you're looking for a relaxed meal where you can enjoy conversation, this probably isn't the place. Had four different waiters over a long period of time eventually get us our meal. The issue the manager implied was a shift change at our booth. There were plenty of servers and not that many customers. If not for the hostess at the door we would never had any service. We ordered 2 teas both with no sugar . One cane with sugar then took forever to get a replacement. When the food finally arrived we had ordered one pull pork sandwich and one pulled chicken sandwich. We were given two pulled pork sandwiches. We were so ready to leave. Basically terrible service ! Food satisfactory. Not a good experience and paid the bill in full! read more

I remember it being really good but this time around all their meat was so dry including the brisket and the pulled pork, we literally had to douse our meat in sauce to have any kind of flavor/juice. It was pretty disappointing since they claim they cook their meats for 12 hours. Our service was great, our waiter was friendly and checked in on us frequently - the food also came out really fast. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. We stopped in for lunch and were surprised to find the restaurant nearly empty which quickly made sense. The nachos we ordered were served cold, and throughout the meal we were never offered refills. When the waiter asked if everything was okay, I politely said no. He offered no follow-up, no apology, and no attempt to address the issue. It was clear there was little concern for the dining experience or the restaurant's reputation. Adding to the odd atmosphere, there was a waitress wearing what looked like cosplay bunny costume, which came across as inappropriate and confusing for a lunch setting, more like a nightclub theme than a restaurant. Overall, poor food quality, lack of service, and an uncomfortable environment made this an experience we will not repeat. There were lots of motorcycles outside, I had to turn around to go check it out. I went inside. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff. Had a great time at Mac's Speed Shop! My boyfriend and I tried this place out on Saturday night. We had around a 20 minute wait, but I'm surprised it wasn't longer. They were very busy but efficient. There was a huge space for outdoor seating, but we were seated close to the bar and had a view of the TVs as well as the orders coming up from the kitchen. I got the quarter chicken with honey barbecue sauce, which came with two sides (I got the mac and cheese and sweet potato fries) and Texas toast, and my boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. We both thought our food was amazing! I can't speak much to the chicken and waffles other than that they were a hefty portion, and we thought it was unique that they served bacon with it. As for the chicken, I loved that the smoked flavor seeped throughout all of the meat, and the honey barbecue sauce was awesome. I especially loved the mac and cheese, it was baked but the noodles were cooked to a soft texture so it blended in well with the cheese. The sweet potato fries and Texas toast were pretty standard, but still great. We had intended to try the banana pudding too, but we were just too full! Mac's is a solid option for a lunch or dinner and drink (especially beer!) spot to hang out in the Greensboro area. It is particularly nice in its physical location as it's just close enough to downtown where it's convenient, but not too far into downtown that parking is an issue. Mac's has its own parking lot, and near a couple of other bars/breweries plus across the street from a popular movie theater, which makes it a nice option for food. The ambiance inside the restaurant is also really funky and cool. During warmer months, the garage doors are open to the patio which makes it even more fun, especially if a band is playing out there. The bar is pretty big, with tons and tons of beer and drink options priced fairly. I've never had a bad experience with service either, even on busier nights. I'm a fan of Mac's food, and generally order the Cuban. I will say, my last visit the other night when this photo was taken, it wasn't as good as usual. But it wasn't bad! I've just had it when it was far tastier. The bread was just less toasted than normal, rendering it a bit thick for a Cuban. Everything else was good and I certainly won't let this deter me from revisiting, I just wanted to mention that consistency wise the food can vary. All in all, Mac's is on a rotation list for me in the area and a solid choice when in search of a good meal at a casual dining spot. read more

Not our first time here. I think we're we're pretty brave to try this spot on a Friday night! The wait was supposed to be shorter than what it was but the kitchen got backed up. No problem. We ordered the burnt ends..... They had a Carmelized finished that was done to perfection! The pork skins never disappoint! Tonight we decided to try new foods since we always get the same thing here. I got the chicken and pork tacos and my spouse got the turkey sandwich. My tacos were very tender and full. I liked the chicken better because the flavor was better than the pork. My spouse loved her smoked turkey on a brioche bun. I do recommend this place and only wish they had brisket mac & cheese, considering they have both options at the restaurant. The outdoor area is wonderful with a great atmosphere. They have a fire pit and heaters for when it is cool. This location is definitely our go to when we can't decide because we always find something we like.
