Cons: A big cavernous mall anchor- with nothing nearby. Side note: WHY did the Westfield Shopping Center close downtown? That was a mall. Probably so the Convention center could be built, another cavernous warehouse. Pros: (leaving blank until I can think of some) I always feel sad shopping in Sacramento's malls, something I don't do very often. I'll slip into Roseville's Galleria if I want a local mall experience a couple times a year but I actually just save my mall shopping for LA which birthed, tended, cultivates, and celebrates malls, (and fashion, style, glamour). Amazingly, people actually spend time and money in shopping centers that are beautiful, fun, and functional. Paging: Mayor Steinberg. However, sometimes I do brave the mall when I need to do check out merchandise in person, and today I went to the Macy's furniture store w/in the mega-Macy's in the DOCO. Oof. Bad move. Hungry commissioned salespeople, a trek to and up three floors, ugly displays in clothes and all else, and one chair I liked...available in... June. Pretty sure it's not backordered, you're MAKING it in China and it will be held over in customs due to coronavirus if any of us are still alive in June. Add 10 minutes after operation chair failure to get my parking ticket validated for the creepy underground parking garage with some chick who was bitching about her online return and Macy's discount....this is shopping hell, and Macy's is in the driver's seat. read more

Also, I order 7 items total, and I only got 3 of the items; the other items are still sitting in 'Processing'. I know what you're thinking. It's a café in Macy's. How good could it possibly be? It has the Martha Stewart seal of approval, and we can't always trust her as far as we can throw her, can we? It's possible, though. It's good! Some of the items on the menu are scrumptious, and affordable, too. The tuna salad sando is only $5.95. Do try the grilled cheeser with tomato and bacon, the Cuban sammie, and the turkey on pretzel roll. The breads they use are high quality. Their chicken chili is famous if you work on Capitol Mall. Yum! It's helpful that they have both warm and cold sandwich options, and healthier soups and salads to choose from as well. All sammies come with a bag of chips or related side. Skip the weird cobblestone turkey sammie with the funky lemon mayo on cinnamon bread. All those flavors together are not my cup of tea. Also, the spicy chicken avo sando isn't spicy, tastes like spicy mayo and only spicy mayo, and has not-so-appetizing stringy chicken pieces in a chicken salad like concoction. As a special bonus, they've got you covered if you happened to forget something salty or sweet for the staff meeting. Pretzels, popcorn, candies, jams, jellies, pancake mixes, and an assortment of other things line the wall for whatever reason. There's also a cooler with grab-n-go food, snacks, appetizers, and drinks. You can access this café either through the Macy's store, or from the DoCo construction walkway on the 4th street side. Love that they have the underground parking lot. The corners can be a narrow fit if you're turning into the adjacent aisle, so I would suggest driving slowly and cautiously. The hand sanitizer dispenser by the elevator and two of the exits were empty. They do have hand sanitizer available at some service counters though. Clean interior. Not many customers on a Friday morning. The online pickup, exchanges, and return counter is pretty quick. If you order online and pay with PayPal, they're able to refund any returned items to your PayPal. A step a above JCPenney in convenience. Still expensive, but sometimes there's a good deal-in store. Personally, I find it easier to browse online. read more

This Macy's is incredible because the store is multi-level, which makes each visit an adventure! I kept thinking..."what deals do are on level 2 and 3?" as I browsed level 1. My compliments to Whomever designed the layout of this Macy's! You have used the space extremely well on every level. Cash wrap stations and fitting rooms are plentiful, easily accessed, and their corner locations makes sense! I have wandered around in other Macy's seeking a fitting room, and finally being directed by a fellow shopper to a tiny door in an out of the way nook. So I was delighted to easily find the Sacramento Macy's HUGE, welcoming entryways which lead to large, clean, and bright fitting rooms. Yay! I wish I lived closer, because this is my all-time favorite Macy's. HOT TIP for those new to this Sacramento location: If you choose to utilize the 'free' parking garage, prior to leaving the store politely ask an employee to validate your parking ticket. This will save you from paying a ghastly $7.50 parking garage fee. read more

Went here on a Monday. There was plenty of parking at their underground parking. 3 hours free with validation. The place was dead AF. There was a handful of people walking around the store, looking for someone to help them. Seriously, where are all the sales people on weekdays? There was a lady who wanted to buy a bag from the sales guy who was working in the shoe department, who I had to go hunt down. If you're store is low on sales, get more sales people. Don't be cheap y'all. Other than that, the place is going a bit ratchet. The sales people aren't what they used to be. The store looks sad, the decor looks old and it's just a sad sight all around. I hope this store isn't on the chopping block. Once you get a sales person to help you, you're golden. Good parking makes me give this place 3 stars. read more

I'm happy that we have Macy's in downtown. During winter or summer, I can do my normal walk within the store and shop at the same time. I wish they expanded their juniors section and added more clothing. The store does lack selections. And the Mac staffs within Macy's locations are not that helpful. Besides that, they are a great selection on other brand name items. I love their home goods sections and kids area. read more

Bad customer service. I purchased a box of Versace yellow diamond for my daughter on May 19, 2024. The price was $119.63 after taxes. My daughter open the box in front of me and to our suprise the bottle of perfume was empty. We both returned to Macy's the following day with the receipt and were told they reviewed the tape and it indicated I received a sealed box therefore they would not exchange or refund me for the empty bottle. I spoke to Susan and alleged manager who basicly told use we were lying as sealed box means the product was tapper proof. The manager of this store Hilany Speck did not assist or attempt to resolve our issue. I will be file a small claim for this purchase and reporting this theft to my credit card to dispute this charge. I would not recommend shopping at this location. read more

This store keeps hanging on. I don't shop here frequently but the experience is generally favorable when I do. The staff is well trained with the occasional exception. I'm more of a buyer than a shopper so most trips here I already know what I intend to pick up. Recently I had a double impulse purchase on a couple house ware items that were nicely priced and worked out well with Macy's current promotions for card holders. With increased level of online shopping I have found the selection in the store has suffered greatly. It's gotten to the point where I all to often end up here to return an online purchase. The plus side is the returns are 100% no hassle. I'll keep coming back but I'm not 100% loving it. In comparison to other Macy's stores in the Sacramento area I would rate this as my current favorite. Mainly for the ease of getting in and out and the validated garage parking so you can avoid parking in the sun or rain. Slight downside in trying to keep up with the rotating layout over the years. read more

Blast from the past: first thought stepping out of the elevator. Welcome to the shopping of your youth! Perfect example of how that's been replaced- ordered a shirt online. Looked good on the monitor, not so good in person. Brought it back to this location, parking beneath the store. Took the elevator up and showed it to an employee. He told me to go up another floor. The credit goes back to my PayPal account after returning the article of clothing. The parking for Macy's would be awesome, but it is a pay lot. This review is directed to MAC employees only! The lady who helped me was very nice, I believe she worked for Macys. I was waiting at the MAC area for 10 minutes, no employees were there so I walked towards the other makeup area so someone could help me. I came in to purchase some items and exchange my disposable MAC items for eye shadows. The lady who helped me was in the process of completing that for me, but she went inside the side door and I guess a MAC employee was in there and said I couldn't exchange it for eyeshadows and only lipsticks. She told her that I needed to visit the actual MAC store. I've always exchanged my disposable's for eyeshadow at the downtown location so I'm not sure when that changed? My sister exchanged her disposables last month at that same location and she was told she could only exchange 18 items. The inconsistency is what bothers me about the employees at this location. Why pick and choose what you want to offer your customers? I'm so fed up with the service at MAC, I'm going to switch my daily makeup use to a different brand. A must try and surprising ray of sunshine of culinary art resides in the ghost town Downtown Plaza Mall. The iced Chinese black tea tastes similar to Teavana tea I have had, except dollars cheaper. On a second visit I had their black currant tea, one of the empolyees self proclaimed favorite tea. Wasn't bad, but i liked the Chinese tea better. Both unsweetend, but both taste naturally sweet. Now I have a bigger reason to trek 20 miles North out of my comfy E Geezy suburbia and come to this side of concrete city. No need to wait in shocking 20 minute lines at Panera anymore! I recently bought a wedding ring at Macy's, paid a fair amount; in addition, I even got the insurance for an added $400.00 so when I went into this location to get the ring resized the guy and the manager working in the jewelry department today 5/23/22 told me with smirks on their face that it's best I go elsewhere, rather they insisted it would be a waste of their time to ship my ring to LA to get it resized and that if I want to wait 12 weeks it's better I go elsewhere. There several things wrong with your store but mainly it's the incompetent employees you've allowed in that make Macy's feel this bad, what a horrible experience I hope people find other options than this sad excuse for a poorly managed store. Going out during Covid is a big deal for my family as we haven't been out much. It was so nice to walk around and shop and feel safe at the same time. All staff and guest had mask on. When I forget to bring my lunch this is where I go. I am addicted to the chicken chili. DECOR: Cute little cafe connected to Macy's. Not much to it but it is clean. I am so glad they did not tear this place down for construction. FOOD: You can never go wrong with the chicken chili. It is AMAZING!!!! The flavors are so great together. I love how they add cilantro sour cream. Beware sometimes it is really hot and will burn your mouth. SERVICE: They are always really quick. Great place. I was employed with Macy's for over 17+ years and I WAS a big time Macy's girl and a really great customer. In October 2023 my mom passed away and sadly and tragically my Women's Shoe Manager, Sue Morris passed away after surgery. I was an on-call and Mrs. Morris and I worked really, really well together, she hired me and I was at the Downtown Macy's for over 5 years. During the time Mrs. Morris was out due to her surgery, no other manager called me to come in. The new manager, Sonia Cornejo reached out to me the week before I was to fly out to Texas to pick up my Mom's remains, get her affairs in order. The schedule came out the week before I was to depart, and I immediately contacted Sonia to tell her I would not be available that week as I already bought my plane ticket. Never once did Sonia say how sorry she was for my loss...instead she said "it is MY responsibility to find someone to cover my shifts so it does not affect my attendance"...I went into the store that afternoon and spoke to my co-workers who said they could not cover they shifts the days I was on schedule. I went to the admin offices and all managers were in a meeting so I spoke to the admin secretary, Melissa who indicated that I was entitled to grievance and how sorry she was for my loss. Melissa also said that she could not modify the schedule but would relay the message on to Sonia and to our store manger, Hillary. I was terminated for "Attendance" on 10/24 and no one notified me until I received a letter from Macy's on 11/6/2023. Now I am on the phone with Macy's customer service as there are 3 charges on my credit card for "taxes in October that Macy's miscalculated on my orders in October???? I AM NOT HAPPY WITH MACY'S AND WILL NOT BE SHOPPING THERE ANY LONGER. I AM AT WORK AND HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR 48 MINUTES TO RESOLVE THESE 3 UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES. read more

Never shop here without a coupon or a sale. I have been shopping at this Macy's location for years. I think Macy's has the best sales, coupons, and merchandise. Yes they are lacking in service for the most part. You are usually on your own when it comes to that, sometimes you even have to struggle to find someone to ring you up. During a Super Sale or One Day Sale the lines can be long. The deals you can get are well worth it. I have bought some super cheap baby clothes for gifts, clothes for my sons in the Young Men's department, and of course for myself countless INC items,along with dresses, jewelry, and shoes and household items for the kitchen. I love their furniture in this location but have not bought any items. I prefer this location to Arden and Roseville as the selection is much greater. It is so easy to drive into their own parking lot and just take the flight of stairs or elevator directly to the main store. If you want mens or furniture just a short walk through the mall plaza. This posting is for Macy's Corporate Customer Service department and not the Downtown Store. I recently purchased online a set of Two Cooper Accent chairs. The chairs arrived with the legs sticking out of the packing box. When unpacked, the chair was missing a finishing plug at the bottom of the chair leg. I contacted the manufacturer, but was informed that I needed to contact Macy's. I called Macy's customer service to report the missing plug and to try and obtain a replacement plug. After my customer service call, the agent said I should return the chairs - that was the only way to get a replacement plug! CS did not try to save the sale. I was placed on hold - silence background - several times. I received an authorization to return the chairs for a replacement part that would cost $5. max. I repacked the chairs and sent them back to Macy's according to their guidelines. I was informed by CS that I will not receive the processing fee of $28. when I am reimbursed. (Questionable fee) This experience is leaving me perplexed to understand why Macy's would rather issue a return rather that correct an inexpensive missing part. I will be hesitant to order items from Macy's online in the future. read more

2pm on a Saturday, 4 registers that I walked past were empty! I stood at one near kids for at least two minutes before I left to find another one. I always take the stairs, glad they are clean and don't smell horribly. However, sometimes the door is locked when it shouldn't be. I do love that they always plan decent music! Basically they stole money from my son. He was buying a pair of sunglasses and put in the debit card and PAID for it but they said it was canceled. Show them that money was taking out of my account with my online banking and still refused to give him his merchandise. Next day drove to Davis 15 miles away (mind you I'm on vacation) just to get my bank statement and they still refused to give my money back. Called corporate, called regional with no avail. Weeks lateer my bank got them to refund my money to my account due to an investigation. read more
