So I guess this place moved. Last time I had been was for a Harry Potter Trivia Night and it was such a weird place. It wasn't big enough to accommodate the crowds and was really rickety. Really glad they opened this new location. It's neat! Lots of space and comfy seating, free popcorn, a 5$ menu with Mac and cheese, everything a Justine needs to feel at home in a pub ( I don't drink so there's gotta be something else they offer). Our second Cards Against Tournament UYE was hosted here and it was great! We had two booths reserved and it was in a circular arrangement so it was perfect to play and eat. Ordered the Mac and cheese before people started arriving and it was standard. It came with a piece of toast which I found puzzling. Wish the popcorn came with small bowls instead of paper bags to carry back to your table. Our waitress had a bit of trouble with our large group because her computer was mixing up the receipts. So that part was a bit messy, but not at all her fault. But other than that, the event was a hit and I loved the venue! read more

Best bar in Montreal! Steve and Jay were super nice and so professional with managing the line, they seated people as soon as they could. Once we were inside our waitress Yanna took our drink orders and made some great recommendations, their mixed pitchers were delicious, especially the Peach Julep! A fun pub in downtown Montreal! Filled with young crowd, this place sure was very happening and loud. The space was quite big and the bar was very busy on a Thursday. They have a lot of food deals which I have heard are great, but we already had a bit earlier that day so just got a pitcher of sangria. The sangria was a little too sweet but otherwise the quantity was decent! The service was slow, which is probably understandable since the place is pretty big. The weird thing though was when we were ready to leave, we waited for our sever for a long time and couldn't find him. The bar tender told us that we could only pay the sever and not at the bar so we had to wait a very long time. There were games people could play in groups which made the ambience fun. I can see how a lot of college folks along with young professionals can come enjoy this fun joint. read more

Came here with a group of friends and the staff was super friendly. Our waitress was obviously harried but she did well coming back repeatedly to make sure we were taken care of and that matters to me. I also appreciated they reserved a huge section for our large group. Drinks were good albeit we had an incident with one pitcher of sangria which was off but they replaced it without hesitation. I ate a club sandwich and onion rings. The rings were amazing, perfectly done. The club sandwich was the standard fare. I recommend using better chicken for it, if you're open for advice and perhaps different mayo. I'd love if you'd cater to different types of mayo as well. But all in all, a decent meal with a good price. Music is a bit loud in the area we were in and not really necessary so I'll dock a point for that. All in all, I'd totally be back. read more

This is a newly renovated location of Mad Hatter's I recently checked out. It is larger than the old location with a lounge-leather seats to the left as well as tables in the main area. Decor is more dive bar styled. The lighted trees that were a nice touch along with the sprayed painted slogans in white and black up near the bar. There are pool tables as well in the back. The bathrooms are small but clean. The music was kind of loud for a Monday evening. They serve food and drinks. I didn't order anything except for a stout that was 7$. I thoroughly enjoyed the free popcorn though! Their alcohol selection is basic but fair- come here for beer, the whiskey I'll leave to other locations! read more

Asked the hotel concierge for a decent place to grab a burger & beer. While their recommendation was Le Warehouse, I wasn't going to wait to line in 28 degree temperatures. Walked a block down & saw this eclectic basement bar. Was throughly impressed that I ate there again the next day. First of all the the food was excellent. The $5 meals are a steal. The burgers are In-n-out sized with a huge side of order of fries included in the special. If you aren't on a calorie count, go with the Homer Simpson burger. (Cheeseburger served on a glazed donut instead of a bun...it's glorious). There is also a daytime beer pitcher special that is worth checking out. The bar staff were awesome with a wide range of personalities and I enjoyed the atmosphere. There are tables for large groups, dates & dive bar type seating as well. This place has it all. read more

The waitresses have too much attitude and are selective with whom they discriminate against. One of them was very rude to me when one of their regulars came drunkenly next to me and laid down some marijuana on the table in front of me. The waitress proceeds to tell ME (with the evil eye, shaming Me) "not to bring that stuff in here", and I tell her it's their drunk regular friend's, not mine. She then doesn't saying anything to the guy (being a regular), and they let him continue to sit there harassing me with his drugs and drunk speech. Also, I once accidentally left my backpack there (because I had been inside earlier for an event), and when I went back to get it back, all the zippers were opened. I mean ALL. Found this little place when we were looking for a place for happy hour. It's right on Crescent street and just below ground level. Very casual bar style decor with pool tables in the back and lots of bar seating. Although there was no happy hour per say they do have a $5 food menu and 4 shots for $10 (!!!!) which the lovely bartender allowed us to change into 2 double mixed drinks. We had the wings which came with fries for $5 and two double gin and sodas for $20. Could not be more satisfied with our food, drinks and service. This will definitely be a joint I will revisit each time I'm back in Montreal. Oh and did I mention they have $3 cereal bowls after 10:30pm? Love love love. read more

My husband and I were in Montréal for a concert last weekend May 12th and I guess they only like locals in this bar. Very rude bartenders who kept ignoring us and one guy with a hair bun and beard looked right at me and turned around to help a local. Finally did get a drink from another bartender and there was no alcohol in my drink. If you don't want Americans in your bar then put a huge sign out front so we know. We had so much fun in this bar a few years back so that's why we came back. Very disappointed. read more

The more I explore Rue Crescent, the more I am disappointed to feel that a lot of the bars have the same vibe. Mad Hatter reminded me a lot of Warehouse bar (which I already wrote a review for). Both are fun bars, with plenty of people, music, drinks, and pretty cheap food. Mad Hatter did not strike me as a particularly exciting bar, however, what did make it stand out was the pool tables and the fact that they cell cereal starting late at night (which is a great call, cereal is the best-drunk snack). Definitely hit this place up if you're looking for a classic bar to hang with friends, but not if you're looking for a poppin' food and drink selection and a quirky vibe. Do not come here for drinks, it's as simple as that to save dozens of dollars and hours of time. This has been the worst bar I have ever experienced solely due to the bartenders' treatment of customers who are not locals. We got yelled at by a bartender for "not tipping" when everyone in our party was putting down 25% on basically every round of drinks we got. Drinks were ok at best. This was the first pub that I stopped in on my first trip to Canada. My friends and I had a great time at the bar, playing pool, and singing karaoke. We met so many people from different countries and the bar service was great. We joined in for one of the bartender's birthday songs to finish the night. We stayed for about 3 hours. A few steps out of the bar, one of my friends realized he had left his coat. I went back myself to find it when a guy outside on the street stepped into my way, and without noticing, I spilled some of his own tea on him. Seconds later, I was surrounded by guys on the street threatening to fight me and my friends, who came to see what was happening. After apologizing, and heading toward the entrance to enter the pub, I was called back. Then, I noticed that who I had bumped into was a bouncer, who admitted to only stopping me to make sure that I paid my bar tab. After being embarrassingly herded inside to the bar that I no longer wanted to be, we confirmed with Paul, the nice bartender who served us, that I had indeed paid. I was on my way out with the coat. A horrible way to end an otherwise great night. The next night, we returned for our last night out, not expecting any issues. The same bouncer and posse were on the door, and had apparently remembered the incident. Pretty sad on his part for making such a big deal out of a clear misunderstanding and unwarranted apology. As we approached the door, I was called out to not enter the pub. Ill-tempered bouncer costed business on an under capacity night. Anyone looking for a place to play some pool and meet friendly people: mad hatter is a good time. The bouncer this night (went by the nickname J, and had small black gauges in his ears) simply takes his job too seriously to the point where his superiority complex shows, and you lose business. I hope he is payed well, because it shows he is not happy with his current wage. While at the bar, we met a couple who were 40 and 32. After noticing they got their coats on, I offered a game of pool. The couple claimed they were going for a smoke break, and never returned, leaving their tab unpaid. It is unfortunate that actual offenders go without question while we were treated horrendously after proving we belonged. I wouldn't never have written this review if they had not suggested to write one when they denied us. Let them keep their sorry job, standing in the bitter cold and giving a hard time to returning customers. They needs at least the minimum living wage. To lower costs ahelp business in the long run, consider one competent bouncer rather than the current clown posse. Never allowed back. Enjoy the cold, J. read more

So on our first night here we spotted the line out the door of fraternity type kids waiting to get in. We skipped that night but gave it another chance a few nights later. No line, no attitude, just a bunch of really cool people. The bartender Russ was awesome. He made us feel right at home and cracked a few jokes with us. He even introduced us to bar curling. That's right, same rules as on the ice but they play it on the bar with a full beer mug. Closest to the end of the bar without going over wins. Came by here around lunch for a pitcher and some food. What I liked about this place is that they served real pub food. That means cheap, good food with large portions. The bartender was really sweet, she was chatting with three regulars when we came in and approached us as soon as we were seated. I was surprised to see that the menu carried more than your average cheeseburger and fries. The server recommended the Elvis Burger which was a combination of a beef patty with bacon, cheddar cheese, onion rings and peanut butter. I was delighted by the presentation of the burger which was stacked high and appropriately skewered in place. What made it even better was the fact that it came with a big bowl of poutine and a side of coleslaw. The burger was delicious and the poutine was good too, although the gravy was a little sweeter than what I'm accustomed to. The feel of the place is very laid back, it has lots of cool vintage decor and overall felt very much like a classic pub. read more

Came here for an UYE (cards against humanity night) and was surprised that I'd never heard of this pub before! Seating is plentiful and service was quick on a busy night but like many pubs in the city, there's nothing very special about this one. Food was ok as were the drinks. The main negative was that it's super super loud in there making it very hard to speak to those you're with. Would I go back? Maybe... but unlikely! Food is okay. It's decent and if you're drunk, you'll probably love it. I however was sober and we just wanted cheap food for an easy dinner out, and it wasn't great. The Paris Poutine had way too much heavy Hollandaise sauce and my friend's Homer Burger was interesting but pretty small and greasy. The cauliflower "wings" were good but there were literally only 5 in the serving. It's loud inside and really dimly lit, plus the service isn't the best. You have to seat yourself and when they're busy, nobody pays attention to you at all. The waiters have a bit of an aloof attitude. Again, so-so place, would probably give 2.5 stars on mobile if I could - but if you're coming back from a night out, it'll probably get way better. read more

In the summer, I'm definitely a regular here. They have awesome music, cheap eats and great beers. I do find their drinks a little weak in comparison to other bars though. But they often have a bunch of promos and different activities lined up. Their 5$ food menu beats the Warehouse by a longshot. I've had their mac n cheese, Elvis burger (my personal fave), fish and chips, and so much more. It's obviously not the BEST since you get what you pay for but it's definitely bang for your buck. Plus they have giant jenga - I've never seen this at any other spot. I definitely recommend checking this spot out! read more

This is one of those places where the bartenders are all hip guys.... and this one in particular, this tall guy with long hair, beard, and tattoos on his arms, was low key flirting with my date from the moment we sat at the bar. Eventually my date started going to the back employee area. And at one point she came and told me that she's gonna get a ride from one of the employees and that I should go home without our her. I initially had thought that this could be my regular bars that I can take dates too every time cuz it's right by my house, but it's worth it to go an extra blocks to another bar to not have to be competing with the bartenders to keep my date. read more

Great place if you are super young and love noise. There is no waiting in line, run and secure your own place. Take the time to chill as they servers will take their merry time too. Plenty of options to enjoy if you go with a group. Not a place for only a coulle of friends. Drinks are affordable the food is ok. You have to put this on your list of pubs to try when in town. Super nice staff!! They had some great draft choices, which seems to be hard to find for some reason. What makes this place a great place is the atmosphere. Cool stuff on the walls plus some unique decorations behind the bar. They have a couple of pool tables and ping ping should you need to be reminded how bad you are at these things. The food looked real food. We only drank, but would try it next time. read more

I like the atmosphere of this bar, with pool tables, and giant Jenga for people to play, but some things made the experience not so enjoyable. I got there around 8:30 and the place was packed, so be advised to get there early if you need a table. Also, there was no one to assist us finding a table, which is a bit inconvenient in a bar this big. Me and my friends found a table in the back of the bar after 10-15min, and the service was considerably fast. They have a 5 dollar menu, which is VERY good if you're looking for cheap food or snacks (they have wings, fries, burgers and even nachos on that menu). I was unlucky with my choice, since I choose the chicken wings with honey garlic sauce (recommended for the waitress when I asked about a sauce that was not very spicy). The thing is that the sauce was extremely sweet! I was very disappointed, because it was really hard to finish the dish with the extra sweet sauce. Also, the corner in which we were seating was SO hot, and me and my friends left the bar sweating (the temperature was near 0 degrees outside, so that was a little bit uncomfortable. read more

We had a good time. They have a few Jenga towers around with big blocks, and three pool tables. The decor is nice! My only issue, which is common is many bars, is that they cranked up the volume of the music around 9pm. I was trying to have a talk over a good beer and it became hard. We had to find a different table farther from the speakers. But I would go again. :) read more
