I chose to reach out to Mad Hatter tattoo based on the artwork I saw posted on social media channels, a lot of which showcased fine line work, which is exactly what I've been looking for (and is hard to find, quite frankly, because it requires true talent). This isn't my first tattoo but I knew that with this specific piece I was going to be picky about the layout and style. I had a tattoo design in mind for a while, and Ethan did nothing short of deliver exactly what I had hoped for. Ethan is an old school artist - a laid back, patient, non-corporate dude with artistic integrity (with a love for death metal and cars, ha). He's perhaps a bit persnickety about his process, which only told me that he takes his work seriously and truly cares about his clients and his product. I was able to communicate with him via IG message, send him photos of what I was looking to create, and he worked with me the whole way through, and even sent me a rough draft of the design, which many artists don't do (much appreciated). He is flexible with his time and willing to work with you - he overall has a good energy and vibe. I ended up in the hot seat for 4 hours and felt comfortable with him the whole time. I look forward to coming back to finish up the shading, even though I've already received multiple compliments on my new ink :) If you're looking for someone who loves what he does, cares about his work and wants to collaborate with you to create a quality tattoo, I highly recommend checking out Mad Hatter and speaking with Ethan. I came in for finger tattoos and was glad that I could be taken in last minute considering other places I called that day was booked. This place is clean, Ethan is friendly, and helpful with designs. I have also previously been here before for a nose piercing which went fine. My frustration is that after a couple of days (literally 2-3 days) when the stencil fully washed off I saw that the lines weren't drawn in fully solid on one part. I have simple outlines of hearts and a peace sign which cost $100 so I was expecting high quality. I called him about this and he basically took no accountability and told me that if I wanted a touch up after it heals it would be $40. He literally told me "the needle was in", and refused to address that he did a botched job. He also suggested that if I were to come back and get another tattoo then he would touch them up for free since the needle is already out. Not sure why he would think I will get another tattoo with someone this horrible and manipulative. My body is covered in tattoos and I have been to many different tattoo shops - charging people for touch ups when the tattoo heals after they already paid you for the tattoo is completely not the standard and a sign of a bad business. Told a couple of friends who also are covered in tattoos and they immediately agreed - I also spoke to other tattoo artists about this botched job and they validated that Ethan is not a true artist and is all about the money. It is his work and he should be on top of it. I will not be going back because I do not want to be gaslit over this tattoo and the fact it wasn't properly done in the first place (hence the line isn't solid) - as well as that any other place would have just told me to come back and they'll touch it up for free. Hugely disappointed and upset. I will have to go to another place that I have been before where they are actual artists and know what they are doing. DO NOT GO HERE - he is a scam, cares only about stealing your money, and does a half-assed job. Such a nightmare. The tattoos look even worse after they peeled and its almost as if a teenager did a stick and poke or were drawn with an ink pen. Clearly this was a hard task for him to do. read more
