My coworkers and I were so excited to find Vietnamese French restaurant in Berlin that actually tasted good. Since our expectations were really low from several Vietnamese restaurants all over Germany, it was nice to walk into Madame Ngo. Before coming to the restaurant, we noticed that it was on Michelin guide as a recommended restaurant to try. We also noticed that there weren't reservations available online until the next day so we figured that we'd roll the dice and see how long the wait is. As a group we did not want to wait more than two hours in line when we walked in, the wait was only 15 to 20 minutes for a party of four. Score!! For the table, we ordered a papaya salad and summer rolls. The papaya salad had an interesting shredded beef jerky and several slivers of Thai red peppers on top that was a nice touch. The summer rolls were deep fried, but not greasy, and you wrap them on a bed of lettuce and herbs, which gives it a refreshing lighter taste. My main entrée was the fatty brisket pho. This was the highlight of the show. They provide you with a side of two lemon slices and extra Thai chilies. All of us at the table were so happy to find so much flavor and all of our dishes from this tiny hole in the wall in Berlin. We can't wait to return to try something new next time. read more

First thing's first: definitely secure that reservation. I believe they reopen for dinner at 6pm and there was an entire line out the door waiting for them to open. The ambience is great inside, with cute decor and good vibes. The service was surprisingly prompt and attentive given our experience with other places in Berlin-- we got our food all in good time with adequate time in between to catch up with the other people we were getting dinner with. The absolute STARS of this meal were the appetizers. The spring rolls were huge and so crispy and came with lettuce to wrap it in. The server also recommended a shrimp dish that we had never had before, so we decided to try it. I have no idea what this dish is because I've never even seen it in NYC, but it was amazing-- toasted bread pieces with shrimp and a cream/cheese-like sauce. It was super indulgent but incredible all the same. The main courses were all in all good. The chicken rice was kinda like a niu rou fan (the minced pork over rice Taiwanese rice dish) but just chicken. It was an interesting serving method-- with the chicken stock on the side. I was a little confused because I wasn't sure if it was supposed to end up as a soup? But no, the rice just absorbs the soup and makes it more flavorful! The pho was a standout only because of the sheer amount of meat they gave us. We got the three beef pho (so brisket, steak, AND meatballs). I have never seen any restaurant be THIS generous with the meat. I split this bowl with my sister and it didn't even seem like I'd eaten any meat when I passed it over to her after eating half. The noodles were a little too al dente for me, but that fact was completely overshadowed by the fact that we got a. ton. of meat. We went to 3 Vietnamese places while in Germany and I'd definitely say this was my favorite! read more

I came here for dinner with my brother in law. It was fantastic! One of the best Vietnamese food I've had in some time. We shared the following things: Kim's Summer Salad (palm heart, prawns, watercress..), Les Trois Cochons (pork belly 3 ways) and a bowl of chicken pho. Everything was excellent! The salad was the perfect starter, nice and refreshing herbs contrast with the fish sauce dressing. The pork belly was phenomenal and each preparation was delicious. In fact, it was not possible to choose which preparation was our favorite. And that pho! Wow! Fantastic broth! I'm craving this now thinking of this. There's one Vietnamese eatery in NY that is very similar to Madame Ngo and I may have to go visit it soon to satisfy my craving. read more

All I am going to say about this place is that it serves best vegan pho I have tried in my life, and I tried plenty. The broth is flavorful, the noodles are firm, and the veggies are crunchy. Madame Ngo is a Vietnamese French restaurant that serves Indochine-French fusion cuisine. When I entered the restaurant, I noticed those huge pots for the pho broth at the window, the bar that reminded me of a noodle soup bar similar to ramen places in Japan and the "typical" Berlin style interior: somehow classy but simplistic. Food: The menu consists of three sections: Pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup; Banh Mi, the Vietnamese Sandwiches and the French fusion section offering dishes, such as beef tartar. Since I am very familiar with Vietnamese cuisine from home, I ordered the Pho with cooked beef (10€) and my friend the Pho with "medium" beef (11€). The prices are impressive for dishes like pho, since they are usually located at a range of 6-8 €. On the menu, they also offered Pho with bio chicken. My expectations were high and as I was sitting right in front of the food bar, I could observe every single step in the preparation of the Pho. After having the first bite, I was surprised by the very high quality of meet, which was tender and soft, the broth was clear and full - flavoured like the traditional pho. Service: Young and hip team that is easy going and always open for a little chat. The service is good and fast. Very friendly and interesting team of mixed Asians and Germans. Interior/Ambience: The interior is simplistic but perfect to have a chilled and relaxed dinner with your friends. The dimmed lights created a warm and cozy atmosphere. Price: For the pho, I can say that it is definitely pricey. If you order the special pho it goes up to 16€. The portions are alright but not generous. So my friend (male) was still hungry afterwards. However, I have to admit that the quality of the meat and the broth is exceptional and indeed, I never had a better pho in Berlin. The quality of the ingredients they use and also the location, at Kantstraße, justifies the price level. Tip: This place has newly opened in February and since then it is packed during the whole week. If you plan to go there for a date or in a group, I would recommend to make a reservation, otherwise only at the bar you might find a seat. read more

Great Vietnamese fusion on the west side of Berlin. Finding welcoming and quality spots like this make business travel bearable. The pho is solid with a nice beefy stock and the summer salad with heart of Palm was a great twist on the common shredded cabbage salad. Will definitely return. read more

nothing warms you up better or gets you feeling satisfied than a warm bowl of pho. i love pho. i'm the guy who gets pho even when hes in a country like hungary. i've had pho from all corners of the world... cali pho, philly pho, NYC pho (which is horrible), saigon pho, hanoi pho, and of course berlin pho. hands down madame ngo has the BEST pho i've ever tasted. as soon as you walk into the restaurant, a hard look left and you will see a huge pot where they are boiling the broth. always a good indication. the pho itself is seasoned perfectly and topped with very thin sliced ribeye meat. the meat practically melts in your mouth as you eat. the spring rolls are also bomb. love this place. 5 stars ez. read more

berlin and i have been distant lovers for quite some time, by that i mean we've been in bed with some of the same peoples but have never felt too close to each other. but i need to give credit where credit is due, berlin is trying, and trying hard to get closer. madame ngo is one of these attempts and while the taint of berlinesque cold hipsterness is still in the air madame ngo is part of the trending improvement of restaurants that cater to a more adventurous more diverse population, that are willing to, suspense, drum roll, add some spicy to their soups and accept that there are no potatoes in it. This was the best Vietnamese food that we've had, the waiters were really attentive. Overall a great experience, we'll be back!
