This was the highlight of my European trip. A really wonderful place with wonderful food. The blackboard specials were mouth watering along with the regular menu. They are serious about using locally sourcing and listed the sources of most ingredients. Additionally they had a great selection of local beer. I think the winner was the felafel burger. It was awesome - I got the fish and chips which was great, but in the end, its just fish and chips. Well executed but nothing special. Visited here and wasn't aware that they were part of an Independent chain with Le Coop and another, which the Le Coop was awesome! From entering the restaurant, it had a great feel to it and a buzzing atmosphere which was just what I needed! I had the Angus steak for main which was GORGEOUS as it game with a garlic and chilli butter, Spinach and Fried Prawns which were seasoned very well and went so well with the steak as the crunchy texture was great with the steak and spinach. The fries were also crunchy and fresh which I loved. The only reason I have put this as a 4 star for me as, im not sure if wss supposed to be like this, but the Rhubarb and custard were cold, but didn't know whether it was their twist on the dessert or not, so aye it anyway! The Apple and Pear Daiquiri was good, but from previously working in a cocktail bar for 3 years, I have had extensive training in cocktails and daiquiri's are not supposed to be frozen, unless stated or asked for otherwise, so to my surprise they served it frozen. I hate to be a cocktail snob! But have to sometimes! Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would recommend it to anyone who visits Belfast! read more

Love this place, great brunch! And really god for families

When my friend told me she was going to Made in Belfast for her 21st birthday, I thought I'd misheard her. "Made in Belfast? Are you sure?" was my retort. "Absolutely, it's lovely", says she. Fair enough then... Not only had I never known of Made in Belfast's existence, I also had no idea what lay down the alleyway in which it is situated. I've been in the vicinity of Made in Belfast on numerous occasions, but little did I know what an absolute gem of a restaurant lay down that wee lane. Picture an old warehouse occupied by irregular seating, haphazard furniture and gigantic mirrors, and that's pretty much Made in Belfast. Unique in every way. The food, however, is much less fortuitous, although altogether surprising at the same time. Burger and chips were ordered, but what arrived in front of me 15 minutes later was a huge burger sandwich, filled to the brim and chunky fries. And boy, was it good! Had we been able to fit any more food into our not-quite-so bottomless pits, I am certain the dessert would have been just as spectacular. Definitely paying another trip to Made in Belfast when my pit is feeling a tad more bottomless. read more

It is ok not to rave over this place? I feel bad because everyone else in the world seems to love it, and I was so excited to go for the first time, but I thought it was just ok... I think maybe I just prefer Hooligans. The food and décor is similar (what with them being owned by the same people and all that), but Made In Belfast just seemed to be lacking a little something, although I'm not quite sure what it was... Maybe it was that the place was only half full and yet everyone was cramped into one corner (really? You couldn't have spread us out to give everyone a bit of privacy?), or that the Serrano ham that was on our starter was so tough to eat you would have needed a steak knife to cut it! There was also a little too much food. Bit of a stupid complaint, I know, but it's just off putting when you know right away that you're not going to be able to finish your food. Now, complaints aside, this is still one of the best restaurants in Belfast, head and shoulders above so many others, but given that you can get an almost identical dining experience in Hooligans (and you'll be able to get a table with far less notice), I'd choose the latter every time. read more

Made In Belfast is a fantastic place to eat. It's smack bang in the centre of the City. The insides can only be described as random. Every single chair, table and cushion is different. It gives the place a truly funky feel that is so arty it should be entered for the Turner Prize. The food is second to none and served in true Made In Belfast fashion. I ordered the ham burger, which turned out to be the biggest, yummiest patty, on top of a huge slice of toasted bread smothered in caramelised onions. The side of chips was served in an old tin mug! This pleased me a little to much... All these little quirky details and the fresh approach to how the food is prepared and presented makes the whole eating experience an adventure! Beautifully presented and a great idea for a restaurant in Belfast. I loved the board showing which farms the meats came from. The pork belly lacked seasoning but was perfectly cooked and the paprika sauce was delicious. I loved the potato cake and the veg on the plate (except the undercooked tough broccoli.) My boyfriend loved his fish of the day special. The sauce it was in was his favorite part. We had a fresh, farm to table meal at a different restaurant that wasn't as hip and trendy for lunch and I felt like the flavor there was better executed. Dined here for the first time the other night after wanting to try for a long time - and it was worth the wait! Great atmosphere and excellent food, I had friends visiting from Germany and decided to bring them here for a taste of 'traditional' Irish food. They weren't disappointed at all - we all had the Chargrilled Irish Flat Iron Steak and it was cooked to perfection, I'm not normally a fan of medium-rare steak but this was next level. We dined in the City Hall branch one Sunday afternoon. A meet up with the girls for my birthday so we booked a table well in advance. I love where you can book restaurants online and Made In Belfast allow you to do so, +5 points for that :) To our surprise their Pre-Theatre menu is actually served on Sundays 12- 6pm so bonus for that too. I think it was 2 courses for £15 or 3 courses for £18. We went with starters and mains for £15. One thing that dropped Made In Belfast a star for this review however had to be the service, we were seated and settled about at least a good 20 mins before anyone came near us and it's not like we snuck in and stole a seat, we were greeted upon arrival but it felt like the staff were avoiding us...perhaps I forgot my deodorant that day or something. We all had the wings to start which were absolutely delicious and a nice generous portion too with lots of messy sauce. I opted for the burger for my main and it was a bit of a mountain but I couldn't fault it at all. The food itself was absolutely beautiful, sadly the service let it down. Upon leaving one of my party told me she had found A FEW long hairs in her starter but didn't want to upset the party by making an issue of it. Had a poor experience here. Started splitting the mussels with a friend. They used a basic tomato base which was nothing to write home about and a very small piece of admittedly good warm bread. We had ordered the large mussels and the bread portion was meager for two. For my main I had the shepherds burger... Nightmare. Horrendously overcooked, apparently they don't grind their meat there so they just sling you a charcoal briquette. My friends salmon was pretty good. Service was so-so with a frosty waitress but warm beer. Verdict: not worth the hype... Unless you get off on the menu design more than the food. read more

It's been 6 long years since I came here last and raging toothache would not stop me coming back. Things have gone well in all that time it seems, and the place was packed on a rainy night in December. I had celeriac soup and Homily pie. I was visiting Belfast after a day trip to the Giants Causeway and stopped by here on the recommendation from a friend who lives about 30 miles outside the city. We got here early (around 5pm) and before the dinner rush. I have to say I was really surprised at how good the food was. I had the butternut squash with the quinoa, cranberries, pomegranate, goats cheese, and arugula. WOW is all I can say. One of the best meals I have had in a while. My boyfriend had the cow pie and loved it, one other person got the bacon steak and the others got the burgers. Not one person from our party left hungry or without giving the place great reviews. I left a comment card with outstanding reviews on the table, but do have to fess up that I stole your pen!!! LOL It was a souvenir to take back to the states. I will definitely return to Made in Belfast on my next trip to Ireland and HIGHLY recommend the place. Thanks for making my first meal out in Ireland enjoyable. PS. The staff was friendly and had good recommendations. We had the share plate of bread, Brie, and cranberry chutney to start with pork spring rolls. Both scrumptious. Our mains were the flat iron steak and pork belly. Both just melted in your mouth the meat was so tender. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was the perfect ending. And it's reasonably priced. All of that was only 58 pounds and it was a ton of food. That much food at a nice place in the States would be about $100. Will definitely come back on our return trip! read more

Right after I arrived I started asking their suggestions and I have explained something about what I like what I prefer. After experiencing a very average meal out in Made in Belfast Cathedral Quarter, I was a little skeptical of trying again. I did however, and I was very pleasantly surprised. City Hall location was fantastic! Crab to start which was just enough and very moreish. I tried the vegetarian option for main and it was full of flavour never mind the huge portion. Very good for the price. Definitely extremely hipstery but generally in a good way. Food and drink are top notch and uniquely local which makes it a good pick for tourists wanting to try something specifically "Belfast/Northern Irish". Again, the food quality and even the ambiance are what you would expect at a place charging twice, if not three times, as much and I'm a sucker for value so, yes, I adored this place and recommend it to anyone visiting Belfast. One funny point was that when I (a craft beer fan) asked the waitress about the craft beers on the menu (I believe I said, "What's the Belfast Porter like"?) and she replied that is was like Guiness... well, obviously; it is a porter, I more meant what sort of flavors does it have, is it hoppier or maltier? Fizzy or smooth? I guess I looked like a dumb American that drinks Budweiser lol.
