I wasn't sure how I could beat my last trip there, or the 5000 trips before it, but tonight has been a blast... Let me paint you a picture (with my words of course).. As its my other half's birthday tomorrow, a few days ago I got a special offer through the post for a huge 25% off our bill, and a free bottle of house wine, clearly to encourage me to spend the her birthday there and reward me for my previous custom - but as its one of our favorite restaurants - lets just say we don't need much convincing! So we pulled up at about 5pm on a gorgeous Friday evening (tonight!) only to see the car park packed and wondered would we get seated - we goes in, and bless the girls that seated us, actually thought about where we were going to be sitting, and popped us on a table away from the other families in there with children (not that I have anything against kids at all!), but she recognized we were a couple having a meal together - so thoughtful and showed she thought about it! We sat on a table that wasn't on top of other ones and got down to ordering our food - oh and getting our complimentary bottle of wine - deeeelish!! Hmmmm, droool, the food... Chicken livers for the wife and duck spring rolls for me to start - crispy rolls, filled with duck and on an amazing sweet chilli sauce, she had livers that were meaty, cooked to perfection and almost melt in the mouth - in fact I am drooling AGAIN thinking about it now! Mains were fishcake for me, and slow roasted lamb with some ribboned pasta that has a name but I cant remember or spell it - anyway it was GAWGUS - meaty lamb, no fat, pasta cooked to perfection - oh my word I could go on but wont... Cos I will end up soaking the laptop... Service wise, very attentive, talking to us whilst taking our order but certainly not intrusive at all, knew there was a birthday when I had handed over the voucher for the free wine - I'll do anything for a free wine! - and took a real interest, asking whose birthday it was and wishing her a good un! I though this in itself was lovely but imagine my surprise when at the end of the meal the staff brought out an ice cream with a giant sparkler in it and sang Happy Birthday for her - aw it was a lovely touch and to be honest really made our night... I love this place and although people find it slightly more expensive, I don't, and I'm certainly not one to spend money without thinking about it. Its a complete you get more than what you pay for place, and for an evening meal like this I would have paid double - definitely a place to go!

The layout is spacious and relaxing, the food........what can I say but the best god damned food that I have had for a long time. The head chef has definitely got this right, great menu well balanced and put together, we have visited a number of times now and are hoping to get in for Xmas lunch. All I can say is next time you are in Rothwell look out for Salute and pay them a visit I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

This is one of my favourite places to visit with friends due to the light atmosphere and wide choice of dishes available. For anybody who may be a little shy to try a forgeign cuisine, English options are available. I ordered the Sirloin Steak which was, as always, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of caramelised onions. Prices are reasonable for a restaurant, around £18 for a steak dish. Quality is always present at Brio and staff have always had a 'can do' attitude.

The Gargantua comes highly recomended a meaty feat! Pasta always perfectly cooked and delicious fancy something fishy go for the linguine alle vongole, (long flat pasta with clams garlic chilli and the like) a real classic dish. There is always a range of seasonal specials be it lobster season or something else, check them out while you wait to be seated. Brio is a great place for a speedy lunch or a hassle free dinner when you need to get your drink on. A waiter met us at the door, and immediately layered on the charm, which really isn't my thing. Especially when he's old enough to be my Granddad. Nonetheless, we took a seat straight away, and perused the menu. To start, the place could well do with a refurb - it's not exactly grotty, but it's not inspiring, and has the feel of an old diner. With various Italian dishes on the menu, and pasta not really floating my boat, I opted for the mushroom pizza - being famished, there's nothing that a good bready hearty bit of carbs couldn't sort out, right? Two diet cokes ordered, and fairly quickly, the food was brought out. I spotted the waiter being a little over friendly with my companion (poor her), and hoped he might leave off so that we could at least get to eating our fare. Oh dear. Oh dear. I'm sorry, but that wasn't pizza. That was a tasteless slab of slop. Except that the odd mushroom tasted tangy and weeks old. I'm not one to complain, I find it hard to waste food - especially when there's an overfamiliar waiter lingering - but I actually had to deposit a mouthful of one bite into my napkin. I barely ate half the pizza, and was not inclined to plough on - the cheese, sparse, was entirely tasteless and sloppy, and the mushrooms had really seen better days. I couldn't believe I was about to be so British as to pay about a tenner for the whole experience. We ordered the Italian Mojito, Antipasti with Prosciutto Cotto and Scamorza Affumicate, the Nonna's Meatballs, Porchetta Crostone, and Sicilian Paccheri. The mojito was delicious and had a limoncello foam on it. Very refreshing. The antipasti was truly the highlight of the meal. The meat and cheese was delicious and the bread and onion chutney was perfect with them. If we visit again we would definitely would do more of the antipasti. The Nonna's meatballs were served in a bread bowl. These were ok, but didn't blow us away. However, the bread bowl was perfect for getting extra sauce from the other dishes. The Porchetta Crostone was a highlight of the meal. Very flavorful, the bread was crispy and it was a good mix of sweet and salty. This would be something we'd order again as well. The Sicilian Paccheri was a pistachio pesto pasta and was cooked al dente and was a very tasty pasta: they were generous with the sauce too so we dipped the bread from the Nonna's meatballs in the sauce as well. It wasn't too busy while we were there and we were amongst the last customers there for the evening. The staff was friendly and they were able to bring out our food pretty quickly. The restaurant would be good for date nights, meet ups and small or large groups. While we were there a group of about ten was wrapping up and seemed to have an amazing time as well.

We had a change of plans and suddenly stopped by Friday evening at 6 PM. The place was absolutely packed with both indoor and outdoor seats filled. Sometimes this can look really tacky and a bit in your face but paired with the ultra modern decor it looks perfect.  You walk straight in to the bar area where the very attentive bar staff await to take your order. The only problem is their drinks menu is full of such tempting looking things I'm always spoilt for choice! Once you are ready to take your seat the manager takes you through to your table. The first time I walked into the dining area here I was like wow! The delicate fairy light theme is carried right through but this time they are encased around a tree that stands in the middle of the restaurant. Yes a tree! This isn't just your average restaurant it was built around a 200 year old olive tree that is now the central feature of their dining area. The menu is large yet the quality is most definitely not effected. Every time I visit the menu has been revised slightly as they seem to constantly be trying to make their dishes better and adjust them to suit the season.  I am a huge fan of pate but I can be quite picky with it. Theirs is the best I have ever tasted, served with crisp breads I could eat it forever. The chicken primavera is the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. The vegetables are seasonal which really reflects in the taste and it is cooked to perfection. The chicken is plentiful and very juicy and flavoursome. Within the restaurant they also have an open part of the kitchen where you can see the pizzas being made fresh and put into the pizza oven. My dad orders a pizza every time he comes here as he says they are the best pizzas he has ever had. Even better than the ones he had in Italy! I have not had the chance to sample the dessert menu yet as the portion sizes are pretty big so I am always stuffed when it comes to the final course. Everything in the place is pretty much perfect. The menus is lovely and simple and really affordable for this type of cuisine. I have found that many Italians will charge a fortune for what is essentially tomatoes and pasta. Comfort, excellent service and Moorish food that will fill you to the brim with garlic and cream and what's more you can have a non-wheat version of pasta too. I know where I'm taking my half Italian, wheat-intolerant (yes this is utterly harrowing for her) friend to for said persons birthday.

I browsed the menu for a while but opted for the easy slice of pizza, cheap as anything, and ready to go. The slice was delicious and the service was top - the chap who served me was really friendly and good with the banter. It's always fantastic to get good service and I couldn't have found a faster lunch than this. What's more was the entertainment - GIlda's lovely operatic tunes were as usual playing out full blast, and at impromptu points during the time I was sat there she would suddenly sing heartily along. Wonderful! I noticed that they have a note in the window directed to the customer who had complained about this practice, stating that there was a popular poll in support of her music so it would be staying! Fantastic.

I just realised that I've somehow never reviewed Pasta Romagna, one of my favourite Leeds food…read moreplaces. Time to fix that. It's always such a treat to visit this place. It's a proper little Italian cafe right in the heart of the city centre, somewhat incongruously located - I would never expect to find a great Italian here, but here it is and here it's been for years. Both pasta and pizza are great, as are the cakes. The pizza is either sold by the slice or you can order a personal one if you have more time to wait. They used to do a really quick service pasta deal if you chose from one of the daily specials but they didn't seem to be running that when I last visited. Personally, though, I prefer to wait and take a little time at a table, soaking up the atmosphere of the place. It's always bustling with energy but I've never visited and felt it was overly crowded. Service is friendly and the staff are happy to make suggestions (I tend to trust their recommendations). Also, the coffee is good. What's not to like?
