What an amazing hidden local GEM in Wampsville. Spouse Had the Chicken pot pie with a salad both were excellent. Cowboy burger with brisket amazing but what really enhances the burger, what appears to be homecut french fries, inhouse. Yummy. Seafood soup with lots of scallops and shrimp was delicious. Sometimes it is when things go wrong and how they are handled which makes a restaurant great. This time it was how things were handled that rein-enforced why we come here. Have been coming here for a while now and love their juicy burgers. Unfortunately, one of the burgers was not juicy and very overcooked. A new burger was fixed and was juicy and good. They serve some of the best burgers around. Only wished they had their homemade lemon cake but we will save that for our next visit. This truly is a hidden gem. We had lunch yesterday and it was 'okay', but overpriced. The gentleman who said $4 was too much for a soda is correct. Both a 16 Oz bottle of Coke and a glass of iced tea cost $4 each. $8 for two drinks is a ridiculous price. The food was pricey. The Elvis burger is $22, with fries. The burger was okay, just a little dry. The thinly sliced onion rings were the best part. The fries were covered in large salt crystals so you had to wipe each fry off before you could eat it. Definitely tell the server no salt if you get the fries. The grilled chicken sandwich for $17 was also 'okay'. Chicken was a little dry. The baked beans were very good. Most of the desserts have nuts on them. The desserts without nuts should be on the top shelves in the display case to reduce the possibility of any nuts falling on the ones below. Ideally, they'd be stored separately. Just a friendly head's up for anyone else with nut allergies. For those kinds of prices, the meals should be 'great'. $47 for lunch for two ppl is a lot. These are not prices that have increased because of gas prices or inflation. They've always been a little high. We knew that going in and high prices give high expectations. read more

Came to a part of the county I have never been to in central NY for work. Madison Bistro had me curious at farm to table, so I tried them. First thing I'll say, they are super friendly. It's a great small town, home town vibe. They take the time to speak with everyone. They have quality service. I asked about the favorite or most popular. They said there are lots. It was hard to decide. I was told the beef is from a farm down the road so I went with a burger. Oh my gosh! It was perfectly cooked, thick, tender and juicy with a great bite. I got it with cheese only. In my opinion, needed nothing else. It came with fries, hand cut and thick. Those too were perfectly cooked. I was very happy with this choice of places to eat. Quick and friendly service and tasty food in not-very-fancy, but comfortable, surroundings. Apparently, the idea that the word 'bistro' came from the Russian for 'quickly' (back when Russia invaded Paris after Napoleon's disastrous attack on Moscow) doesn't check out. But this place was hella-quick, and did check out. I showed up 35 minutes before a class I had to take across the street. When I asked if that was enough time for a Reuben and mac-and-cheese, the smiling woman on the counter assured me it was, and entered my order right then. I grabbed a seat, and my order was out in probably less than 10 minutes. The sandwich was pretty solid, although you probably shouldn't expect anything to match what you're getting down in NYC. The corned beef was flavorful, and the proportions of sauerkraut and Russian dressing were appropriate. The bread was flavorful with a good texture, but it seemed like it might've been toasted rather than fried on the grill. Dunno. The mac and cheese was pretty decent, too -- big-ass shells (maybe an inch and a half in length) with a nice sharp cheese sauce. I felt like the sauce was a little thin, but I certainly ate every bite, and would have it again. You should check out the menu -- this place isn't particularly fancy, and you're not going to get French food here, but mostly sandwiches. The preparation is good, service is quick and friendly, and the menu is full of interesting stuff. I'll definitely be back. read more

I am excited to see this spot in the area where good food is harder to find. I had the veggie burger, which was really flavorful, as were the sweet potato fries. My brother ordered the Elvis, which was absolutely bonkers with all the fried onions. My dad had th Greek salad, which was huge with lots of quality toppings. It's cute inside; although there's still drop ceiling (you know the kind), they've hung trendy single pendant lights with Edison bulbs to make it more cozy. Just off of Route 5, I was intrigued by the farm-to-table ethic. My son and I stopped in for lunch on a Friday. The dining room is small, but there was plenty of room for us and the other diners. Speaking of which, one of the diners (alone and near the kitchen) was very loud and getting into a political discussion with the owner. Disruptive, annoying and distracting. I mentioned it to the waitress and she rolled her eyes as if it happened often. When I did see the owner, he was wearing a 2nd amendment gun rights shirt, which I felt was inappropriate, but I guess he can wear what he wants in his establishment. In any case, the menu was great (if pricey). The burgers were upwards of $20 each. However, we decided to get the fish sandwich (it was Friday), and the Cuban (which is one of the harder sandwiches to get right in CNY). Both were great. The chips were pretty good, the fries were underdone, but we ate it all. Oh, and my son tried the unsweetened ginger peach iced tea. Very subtle, but refreshing. Our server was very good. Food took awhile to come out, but we were in no hurry. And a lot of locals came in while we were there ( a good sign). read more

Went here on a Wednesday because the original place we were going to was temporarily closed so we decided to give Madison Bistro a chance. The place is small but cozy and very clean. Decor was southwestern and simple. Not overdone. I thought the prices were slightly on the higher side but was not disappointed with the food and the service was prompt and attentive even with only one waitress on duty. The kitchen, which is partly visible from the register, was very neat and clean. Having worked in restaurants this is one thing I really appreciate. We both ordered the pot roast sandwich with fries. The portion of meat was large and served between a brioche bun and was delicious. My only caveat is that I would ask for extra gravy on the side. As this was served as a sandwich I can understand limiting the gravy but we both made ours into two open faced sandwiches anyways. The fries, however, are the best fries I have had in 53 years on this earth. Long, thick, hand cut skin-on fries that were very crispy outside yet soft inside. Another reason for more gravy. Absolutely excellent french fries. Would be perfect for making poutine. (If anyone working at Madison Bistro is reading this please suggest it to management to add this to the menu.). Overall was very happy with the choice. Would have been 5 stars if not for the parking (very limited spaces) and the slightly higher pricing. Can forgive the pricing due to the quality of food and all of the other pluses. If you're ever at the Wampsville Courthouse or DMV I highly suggest the short walk across the street. I ate at the bistro today with my daughter. I was impressed on the size of my tuna melt, but disappointed that there was absolutely no flavor to it at all. I shared french fries with my daughter that were so mealy with no flavor whatsoever. I do not like to add salt or pepper to any of my food, but even the ketchup didn't add to any flavor. Stopped at the Madison Bistro for a Saturday lunch on our way to the Turning Stone Resort. What a lovely spot with great food and good service. Small cafe with probably 12-15 tables. Looked like some great dessert items in the front counter display but we just enjoyed some salads and sandwiches. The tuna melt was awesome one marble rye. About 30 miles east of Syracuse, in a little restaurant that looks like a small diner attached to an equally small bakery, food is prepared that may rival more expensive, fancier restaurants you've visited in a bigger, more metropolitan city. Madison Bistro includes "Farm to Table," a phrase used liberally in the restaurant business, in its name. I spoke to our server about how much is locally sourced and was told beef, pork and vegetables in season are produced locally. Beer and wine are from Critz Farms, Good Nature, Meritt Winery and Owera Winery--all local. ALL breads and desserts are also made IN HOUSE. I headed to Madison Bistro with a group to give them a try on a Saturday afternoon. It's not what you expect to see for something with Bistro in the name, as it's a small, country style building on a not very populated road in Wampsville. The inside decor is very nice and modern country-ish, and we were sat right away when we headed in. We were given our menus and 3 of us went for their Elvis burger, a burger recently nominated for best burger in Upstate NY. One of our party went with their steak panini while the other chose their house roasted BBQ pulled pork sandwich. We had a lot of questions for our server, but he was extremely nice and personable and either answered our questions or went and found answers for the ones he didn't know. Unlike a lot of servers, he actually seemed happy to be there and talk to us. Our food was prepared and brought to us quickly, and we all kinda shared our dishes so we could try a little of everything. My burger was good. The Elvis is topped with cheddar cheese, bacon and thin sliced onion rings. While it was good, it was absolutely swimming in the onion rings and it was really all you could taste. I took a good layer off so I could taste the patty itself. It was nicely cooked and seasoned, but a little dry. My friends pulled pork was very tasty, with a good smokey flavor to it. But the star of the meal was the steak sandwich. The steak on it was just amazing. We asked our server what kinda of steak they used, and he told us it was sirloin. I've never had a steak sandwich where the meat was so absolutely tender, moist and delicious. I wished I had gotten one myself, it was so tasty. We also tried one of their house baked desserts, a blueberry crumble cake, which was also delcious. It was EXTREMELY sweet though, so if you don't like your desserts overly sweet, it may be best to try something else. What a Gem! Passing through from Syracuse to Turning Stone and saw this place. I thought the prices were a little high when I looked at the menu, but now that I'm done eating, it was cheap! Best Seafood Chowder I've ever had. My wife ordered the Cuban with sweet potato fries and she said they were the best fries she ever had. The food here is what I would expect to get at a $$$$ rated restaurant. Our server was super friendly and answered all our questions. Desert was out of this world. I wish I lived closer so I could try everything they serve! But will just have to settle for making this a required stop on my travels. Now quick back story I have spent 20 years living just a few miles north of Lexington, NC where they take pulled pork BBQ very seriously!! I have to say this sandwich was really good!
