Enjoyed lunch here when visiting the area. When walking in the door you are greeted by a welcoming crew. The place was busy but they get through the orders quickly and serve quickly as well. They take your order, you seat yourself and they deliver the food to you. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sandwiches we ordered. They are a great size and they do not skimp on the meat. I ate lunch with a couple coworkers here yesterday and we enjoyed it. Madison seems like it's being slowly taken over by overpriced, "hip" places to eat. This spot fortunately has not been apart of that :) Our food was good and the prices are reasonable! One thing I will say is that I had the smoked turkey jack and while I did like it, I think the ciabatta bread they are using for it gets too hard and tough in panini form. I'd switch to a softer bread- maybe just offer it on a sourdough. The bread was so hard, after being grilled or toasted I assume since it's a panini, that it was hurting my mouth some to chew it. That's my only complaint. I liked the vibes in here and my sandwich tasted great other than that. read more

Quaint luncheoenette in a quaint town. It is located on the corner in the downtown historic district of Madison. Choose from outdoor seating with umbrellas along the sidewalk, or indoor seating at tables or at the lunch counter. Lots of standard lunch sandwiches. I opted for a turkey reuben ($8.99) which is served with a pickle spear. Large portion and very tasty. I opted for a side of potato salad ($1.49) which made a nice accompaniment for a warm sandwich. Food is good. The front of the store offers produce for sale. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The cafe is charming and clean. Many customers seem to be regulars and know each other. This place charges surprise fees that are not disclosed on their menu but which will end up on your receipt, and I don't recommend this place. I double checked their menu (it's available on their Facebook page) and there is NO MENTION of any extra "fees" for dine-in. But they charged me almost 35% of the sales tax amount (already at 8% with state and county taxes) as a mysterious "fee". Not to mention, the food here is somewhere between meh and okay - not what it is hyped to be. Save your time and money for better spots in town who have transparent pricing practices and good food. read more

I was looking for a good place to have a late breakfast or early lunch (brunch) in Madison; and this place popped up at or near the top of my list. And it seemed to fit the bill nicely. I walked in and was promptly greeted by one of the owners. After looking at the menu I chose the smoked avocado sandwich which has thinly sliced turkey and fresh, ripe avocado slices. I opted for all the fresh produce toppings / accoutrements but with sauce (honey mustard) on the side. The bread was perfectly toasted and the sandwich was very well expertly crafted / seasoned. It was both delicious and filling. I can't wait to return to try the other sandwich options. The shop is run by a retired Marine, his wife, and their college age / young adult kids. They really do run a tight ship here. After eating at one of the tables, I moved to sit at the bar for a drink; and chatted with the owner and some of the other customers. The interior space of the place (as in ambience, bar and table setup) reminds me a lot of The Globe in Athens. I am very much looking forward to the time when they start doing "happy hour" in the late afternoons / early evenings. I really had fun here and enjoyed chatting with some of the locals / regulars that frequent this place. A++ & highly recommended if you are in the area often (like I hope to be soon / in the near future). read more

I got the rueben the first time and I had to send it back as I was not pleased. They apparently serve theirs cold and I was not used to that custom. But my mother who recently moved to Madison asked me to try this place had ordered the Italian and so I asked for the same. They were a bit shocked by my request when I brought the sandwich back to the counter but handled the situation very professionally and brought me a very good Italian hoagie. I have come back a second and third time, actually each time I visit her......lol. I only get the Italian but I did try the Clam Chowder on my 3rd visit and as a big clam chow person it was legit. Also their pickles are full of flavor, I always get a whole to take home and they will put it in a hotdog container for you. Not to mention the vibe on the inside. Oh, My, Madison. We were on the way to Atlanta but wouldn't reach a decent restaurant for close to an hour so we ended up in Madison. It was a short drive off the interstate but what a scenic drive. The houses looked like we were back in the late 1800's and then popped up the town square. A nice mix between modern and traditional. The restaurant was hard to find because there was no screaming neon sign but didn't take long. We walked in and every seat was taken...usually a good sign. The young lady took our order and was a nice as she could be; the whole staff was very much the same. I ordered the Italian hoagie and strayed outside my comfort zone by adding the sweet Vidalia onions and they were tremendous. We sat outside during some type of festival and people watched but only for a short time because the food was delivered fast than most fast food chain restaurants. The hoagie was unbelievably good and the amount of food was a pleasant surprise. With cost of food rising (it was on the pricey side), I fully expected an appetizer portion but this sucker was a full meal. We'll be adding this on the list of places to stop going forward. The town reminded me off Mayberry but the food rivaled any big town eatery. Well done Madison. read more

I discovered this place a few weeks ago while driving back to Atlanta, Ga. and wanted to check it out. Madison Produce Company is a hidden treasure that's located in Madison, Ga. They have a deli along with produce and groceries. The deli has sandwiches, salads, soups, beer and wine. The also sell produce and grocery that's fresh and local like honey, fruits, vegetables, pecans, doggie treats along with King of Pops. This is the perfect spot because you can grab a quick bite or dine inside/outside. However, due to the pandemic at the moment you can only place takeout from the deli area along picking up any other items your may need such as produce and groceries. Everything is so good here!! I ordered from the deli the Mad Max sandwich so tasty. I was able to modify the fixings to my liking. I got a quart of the chicken salad which is really good along with some other produce. Emily and Naomi who works there provided excellent customer service and were friendly and helpful. Emily must of been a manager because she made a lot great suggestions and answer any questions I had. It was nice to be in environment where employees genuinely love their job. You will not be disappointed the food from the deli along with produce and groceries that can be purchase will make want to tell all your friends about this spot. The food is fantastic. We've had the BLT club, Italian hoagie, chili dogs, and chicken panini. All fabulous. I've heard they serve their Reubens cold, tho, which makes me think they're a front for the communists or something because what the hell? That's gross. Found this on Yelp. In the center of town. The produce looked great, the sandwiches were OK. The bread was from Athens. This is a modest place, there is no reason they should refuse to give a cup of plain old water....(what fancy spots denigrate as tap water ) to a paying customer and demand you buy sugar stuff or bottled tap water called a frilly name. I guess we are just dumb Yankees from up north, but if I had known they would not provide water we would have gone elsewhere, like the really nice candy store diagonally across the square with super nice folks at Antique Sweets. I guess we cannot get a do over on this but future customers now know ..... perhaps the owner will realize the error of her or his ways and do the right thing. While strolling around downtown Madison last weekend, J. spotted this shop and asked if we could stop by before driving back to Athens. I'm so glad we remembered to drop by before leaving Madison, as this store is lovely and we got some really fresh vegetables and fruit. I asked the man behind the register if he'd been open long, and he said they've been in business about three months. (I was happy that there were a couple of others in the store with us, both of whom seemed to be familiar with the owner.) A family-owned produce store right on the town square? Quaint and wonderful. To my happy surprise, prices were great--I was prepared to pay a little extra given that this is a locally-owned family business, but prices were pretty similar to what I already pay at the stores here in Athens. Methinks I shall eat one of the oranges I bought a few days ago. Yum. I highly recommend spending an afternoon in Madison sometime this spring. Visit Dog Ear Books, the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, the Madison Produce Co., the ice cream store, and more. It's a lovely, historic town. read more
