When I got there the counter guy helped guide me through the menu and I ultimately ordered chicken tikka masala and an order of garlic naan. Both were delicious. The naan was quite a bit thicker than I had expected but good nonetheless. The chicken tikka masala was good well and was quite a large portion. The sauce had very little spice (as requested) though my father still found it spicy, and the single order still proved enough food for three of us for dinner. Madly Indian is definitely worth a go for to go in Heads, and I plan to get some takeout every trip out here.

The pita bread was perfectly toasted and buttered and the samosa came with a savory marmalade and fruity sauce which was very creamy and smooth to the taste! I highly recommend this restaurant in the Paramount Parade plaza if you visit Whangarei during the holidays!

I was hankering for good Indian, and Google pulled up two choices... one with 4.8 average, and the other with 4.5 average. The difference seems negligible, but Spice Route was closer to where I was and it was close to the beach. When I drove up, I almost thought I got the wrong address... it's on an empty street in an almost deserted building, but I saw two people who clearly worked there sitting outside and they happily jumped up when I arrived. After looking over the menu which focused on chicken, lamb or goat as meat options, I confessed that really wanted chicken methi. It was not on the menu, but the proprietors told me they could easily make it for me. I gotta say, I was utterly floored by how good it is. It is, by far, the best chicken methi I have ever had anywhere in the world. The owners were warm, their daughter (who was my server) was delightful, and if you sit outside on the picnic-style benches, you can see the ocean. The entire experience was out of this world. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Spice Route. I am so very sad that they are halfway around the world from where I live.

They have a huge menu along side the Indian; pizza, burgers, kebabs and chicken wings. They're really covering all bases. The vegetarian section impressed me the most. This is just a really down to earth chilled cafe run by locals, with kids whizzing past; on scooters and skateboards. I like the bohemian style furniture out front, and the funky vibe of Kiwi music that pumps out of the speakers to set the tone. I really do enjoy the freshness of the battered fish, the crisp crunch of every chip and the delicious deep fried onion rings and squid rings. If it's not a fish and chip day for you, they have a variety of yummy burgers to mull over- you pay for what you get, it's more than enough, and there is so many different flavours to choose from too. One thing they could work on would be maybe a restroom, as one must walk down the road to the public toilets if they need to, and possibly making the prices not so steep. I was excited to see that it had been taken over again and we popped in for Fish n Chips before heading out to Omaha Beach. Sadly it was a bit disappointing. We ordered 2 pieces of fish; the Hoki was the cheapest but they'd run out so we went for the snapper instead at $6.50 a piece. A scoop of chips later, a small pot of aioli and a milkshake, we parted with $18. That wouldn't have been so bad if the quality was really good, but everything was just ok. The fish was fresh, but batter was a bit bland (and no slice of lemon ). It was a good serving of chips, but no salt. And the aioli, just a little wee pot for $3 was a bit sad. So overall it was all ok, but just missed those little extras (salt and sauce) to make it a brilliant feed of Fish n Chips
