Our excitement was shared by the packed theater. The theater is intimate enough for this kind of Genre. A horseshoe shaped upper area all in Red Velvet and Gold. A giant Chandeliers hangs from the center of the ceiling inside the Auditorium. A smaller chandelier hangs in the Lobby of the Theater. The acoustic is good and so was the viewing from our seats. I hope to come back to enjoy more Zarzuelas in the not so distant future.

Ballet + flamenco? It's true. I saw it. I am a witness. I'm sorry, perhaps I'm from Canada and born in Hong Kong. There's nothing here like that. Ballet with Spanish influences!?!? Full of shops, vendors, amazing restaurants, and more chocolate stores than you can imagine! I loved the fact that everyone just kinda minded their own business and did their shopping, while most stood or sat around, eating food or talking with friends. We sat in the square, eating slices of pizza, and people watched while avoiding hungry pigeons and random folks offering to take photos LOL. It's a tourist spot, so what can you do! But it was a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the main city, and I took a stroll every day.

They also serve popcorn so it was a bit weird to smell that during a musical. It does make the whole place pretty ugly afterwards as people drop so much popcorn on the floor. The floor was also sticky too it felt like an old movie theater. The seats aren't too comfortable and if you are tall there isn't much legroom: With that said I think it's still a great theater that is worth checking out. The staff at the theater was helpful. They spoke English and we were able to find our seats with their assistance. At the end of the show, instead of rushing everyone out, the theater allow everyone to take a photo of the artwork on display. The theater itself is smaller than the Pantages in Los Angeles. The decoration isn't as wow-ing. However, the acoustics seems better. Unlike US theater seating, seat number 1 is actually in the center (not aisle and then inwards.) Also the numbering is even stage left and odd seats are stage right. As for the seats itself, it's your standard seating. It doesn't have a cup holder, so if you're planning on getting a drink be prepare to hold it or put it on the ground. Overall, nice theater! Wouldn't mind catching something else here!

Their website had posted a number of free music events, I ended up coming to a Monday morning recital by three student chamber groups. The performance was an hour behind schedule so we had espresso and croissant sandwhiches around the corner at the ham museum (it's a chain that is open early for breakfast) and were treated to a free very high quality performance by some extremely talented young musicians. It was a violin string's width away from professional in quality, the auditorium was acoustically very good, I would have paid good money to hear this. The professor was gracious, it was a nice break from the whole day art museums of Madrid's Golden Triangle.
