I also saw many people with their fishing poles, and a few other Neighbor campers said there's some really good fishing spots in the area. A great experience and being there with family made it even better.

There's the side that's closest to the campsite and there's also the side that's closer to the parking where you cross the street and have another beautiful spot of the lake to go enjoy. Cons: Bathroom always stink (the ones closer to the beach the worse it is), no tp (almost 85% of the time) so bring your own. Parking sucks. Day use people take over parking for those who actually camp. Showers: $3for 3 min and additional 20sec for each quarter. Hosts: We had some new ones this year. In the beginning they were phenomenal. Assisted us in many ways and were always nice greeting us. After the weekend, one got roust and rude, throwing a fit about our campers and saying we have left a mess on the beach and need to take ALL our items off the beach. This was not us! Our family respect the beach and always keep it tidy at the end of the day. The day use people over the weekend made a mess and they assumed it was us and came out accusing our group. This is not professional in the least bit and rules should not be made up on the fly. Appreciated Ed (one of the hosts) clarifying some rules and regulations and made sure we all left happy. If you keep right and park, it's a bit longer of a hike to the falls whereas if you keep left and drive up further, the hike is only about .5 miles. We intended on doing the longer hike but got confused and kept driving. Either way, it's nice that there are multiple options that lead to the same beautiful waterfall. We got to the falls around 9:30am and it was pretty empty but started getting very busy by 11am.

Elevation is about 5400 feet. Gorgeous lake! Spectacular views. Big ole majestic Ponderosa pine trees. The lake area has nearby camp sites including RV sites (by reservations), hiking trails including a mild 3 mile loop around the lake, day use picnic areas (first come basis), boat launch, and restrooms around the lake. Day use parking fees are enforced. $10 which is payable via an app. No more cash payments accepted. If you have no internet connection, they allow a one-day leeway. Also it is no longer free to park on the side of the road, if you do, you can get ticketed and towed. Yikes. The lake shoreline is sandy and rocky. Easy enough to access and wade into the waters. The water is beautiful, not Lake Tahoe beautiful but nice nevertheless. Fishing is allowed with a permit. The picnic areas have tables and a bbq pit and are near or near enough within quick walk to the shoreline.

Located off highway 80, about an hour and half from Sacramento, Icehouse Resevoir was so serene and beautiful. It cost $8 to park a car at the boat launch parking lot. There were a variety of watercraft there but it was NOT overwhelming (like it is at Folsom Lake). The boats and jet skis were small and everyone was very courteous out on the water. There were other kayakers, sail boats, and paddle boats. Lots of families and dogs swimming (there are campsites on the reservoir). The water was cool but not as cold as I anticipated. There are lots of spots to pull up on shore and jump in the water or enjoy a picnic. Just remember: what you bring in, bring out. There are trash and recyclable bins located in the parking lot near the boat ramp. An absolutely beautiful afternoon out on the water, surrounded by the towering trees and clear blue sky.

Also if you are at lot 20/21 you are RIGHT by the entry for off roading people who are on the way to do the rubicon trail. On our camping experience here they would make loud noise starting at 11pm- 1 am so it was not quiet by any means and felt like the cars were right next to the tent. Loon Lake? More like ANT Lake!…read more Went to this campground with my husband last weekend. I would highlight how pretty the place is, but unfortunately the campground design had many flaws. First, the elevation was pretty high, so right away, we were noticeably winded even after the shortest walk. They should really consider lowering the campground. Then, we went to sit on the lakeshore, and what did we see?? Not a single loon, but THOUSANDS of ants. Less than 5 minutes after I laid my towel down, it was covered in ants. Turns out there were several ant hills....ON THE BEACH. This is an unacceptable flaw in design. I would suggest the camp hosts or Forest Service relocate the ant hills, so that people can actually enjoy the shore. Just as we were settling down later in the evening and trying to sleep, I heard someone making a God awful owl hooting noise, from high up in the trees. It was very obnoxious. And I know it wasn't an actual owl because birds aren't real. All in all, it's a pretty place but I'd recommend visiting a campground that values comfort and caters to your needs. From the moment we stepped onsite for our initial tour, EarthTrek was the immediate and obvious top choice for us. The grounds and facilities are very well kept and it's obvious that the family takes a lot of pride in the way they care for the site. There are so many areas for guests to explore and enjoy - many of our guests raved to us about the beautiful, serene venue. The river provides such a soothing backdrop and the whole site feels very private and secluded. We really loved that our guests could book overnight camping, and we also opted for the breakfast burrito option on Sunday morning, which was a big hit and a really delicious, bountiful spread. Laura, who was our primary point of contact, is a dream to work with - just genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever come across, and so accommodating and responsive (which is exactly what you hope for when you're planning a wedding). Our wedding was very DIY and decor-forward, and Laura was so great about scheduling site visits with us so we could plan and take measurements. I could go on and on, but basically: EarthTrek is incredible and I highly recommend working with them at their beautiful venue.

This campground is right on the Silver Fork of the American River. There are little beaches for kids to float - make sure they wear life jackets (floaties) - please practice water safety.
