DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip across Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! A so so experience. When we walked in we were shocked by the amount of people there eating and took it as a good sign. The waitress was very friendly, but spread a little thin through all the tables. Menu had something for everyone. We ordered the special, smothered chicken, and it was not special. The shredded cheese they balled on there was barely melted. We ordered a plain burger for my son. The patty was thin and over cooked and bun a little over toasted. I ordered the Philly steak fries and they were good and I would order again. We travel through this area and were hoping it would be a place to eat and rest, but not sure we will make it a priority read more

Years ago, the Texas Bucket List TV show is what brought me to Mae's Meat Market. After all these years, we are still coming here because the food is so good. We have tried several different burgers, the chicken fried steak, and the tacos. All have been just wonderful. Tonight, I had the steak fingers with grilled vegetables and steamed broccoli. The steak fingers were absolutely huge, and the grilled vegetables and steamed broccoli were just fantastic. Nothing is better than a steak finger dipped in a big old bowl of white homemade gravy! I was only able to eat half, so there was definitely leftovers. And since I was so full, that means dessert had to be to go. Most places now charge seven or eight dollars for a piece of cake. Here, you can still get a piece of cake for four dollars! Heck of a deal! If you're ever in Eastland Texas, I definitely recommend you give this place a try. read more

What a great find. Saw this place on The Daytripper TV show and have been meaning to try it since. Today was the day. Very unassuming place but excellent food, friendly service, and reasonable prices for what you get. The chicken fried steak was huge (see photo) and very, very tasty. Breading had great spice flavor. Gravy was excellent as well. Same breading in the hand breaded onion rings were just as good. Just a bit salty for my ideal but not over the top. Can't wait to come back to check out the steaks. You can pick them out of the meat market counter if you'd like. They have a salad bar too, but didn't check it out and a large selection of great sounding pies and cheesecakes though so full we didn't even think about it. read more

I have avoided coming here for years because every time I had in the past, it was a disappointment. I'll give it to them for consistency? I ordered the half portion breakfast quesadilla. My husband got the deluxe breakfast. The hashbrowns were greasy, obviously not reconstituted, and overcooked. He chose a pancake instead of the biscuit and gravy. His pancake took forever to receive. It was thin and tasteless. I've had better from a Bisquick box! My tortilla was greasy. Barely recognizable as a tortilla. Had I not been genuinely hungry, I would have sent it back. I managed to eat two triangles. I tried to cover up some of the greasiness with their salsa. I've had better salsa from Old El Paso. It was watery and flavorless. That seemed to be the overall theme for this meal. Flavorless and thin on cooking prowess. Had the waitress not been friendly, I would have given only one star. $25 for barely edible anything!?! What an amazing find!!! Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Cone hungry!!! But pack your patience. We were there for over an hour and a half. I had the steak fingers. There were 4 of the largest fingers I ever saw. Very tender and no gristle. Delicious! Brought 2 home couldn't eat them all. Hubby had a Swiss mushroom burger . It is a half pound of yummy goodness. We stopped here for lunch on our drive to New Mexico from DFW and man was it wonderful! Only 5 minutes off highway. Picnic tables in the middle of a meat market with a really cute atmosphere, they take their meat fresh from the market to make your meal and also, sell fresh milk and bread as well. The staff was very attentive and kind! Very texas feel. I had the Maverick burger and it was quite honestly the best burger I've ever ate in my life! I did add green chilies on this burger...and my husband also loved the funky chicken sandwich, it was so tasty! We will be coming here on every drive. Highly recommend! read more

When I come to Eastland for work, this is one of my go to spots for lunch the chicken fried steak, the sweet tea, the lemonade, the Texas toast the rolls, the salad bar every bit of this place is magnificent. The staff is very friendly service was right on time as always food is hot and has plenty of flavor located inside of a meat market at the back. This place is always packed and is truly a local favorite if you are local congratulations you have a treat here if you are visiting or passing through please make sure you stop for lunch well worth it. read more

Flew into town to get fuel for the plane. Brody at the FBO recommended Mae's Meat Market for lunch. Borrowed the crew care and found this hidden gem off the main drag on a potholed stone road. Walked into the store and it was jumping with people. Ordered 2 turkey wraps with chips. I liked the Mae's Meat Market company tee shirts.. it says Mae's Meat Market on the top of the back with PETA written under that with People Eating Tasty Animals! read more

We enjoy the 'Piggy Tails'! Of course that's not what it really is. It's a strip of pork that has been tenderized and floured and fried! You get that with Cream Gravy! You can also get it with mashed, french, or hand cut fries! It's wonderful!! read more

Plenty of open parking. It was great for us because we were pulling our 5th wheel. Things we loved 1) when you walk in you're greeted by the waitress. She couldn't help us out right away so the open kitchen made it easy for the kitchen staff to say hello to us and help us. 2) they immediately brought a high chair to our table. Crayons and paper for my son to draw on. 3) the waitress was friendly 4) drinks came quickly. 5) once we ordered, our food came out within 10 minutes 6) the Texas Tooth pick appetizer was delicious. Fried onion strings and jalapeños 7) the Heart Attack Burger is gigantic and delicious. The patties had so much flavor 8) the blacken catfish was cooked perfectly 9) the salad bar is simply. After many delicious meals here, this was the first time I was disappointed. The chicken fried steak today was terrible. Soggy crust that fell off the steak and total lack of the usual flavor. Found this gem driving to Lubbock from Houston to visit my daughter. Hard to find tucked away behind a small strip center (look for Dollar General then turn into Terri Street from Main then a right into their parking lot) but an awesome place to get Downhome meal and friendly service with mostly locals. No sign from Main Street and easy to miss so make sure to look for that Dollar General store as it is behind it In an unassuming building. Have been making a point to stop and eat here and even brought my daughter who loves it. I usually get the lunch special which varies from day to day. I have had burgers ( usual 1/2 lb and make it the way you want it. I added an egg which is the bomb), monte crispy, meatloaf, and chicken fried steak all which were awesome. Service is fantastic as well as attentive. You can tell lots of locals stop by as the servers knew most by name. They have butcher case with meats to buy in the back and behind the cashier is the small salad bar and then the back wall has the desserts which vary day by day. Everything seems to be home made and yummy. Definitely get anything with meat as it's not store bought but from the butcher on site. Can't complain about any meal I have had there except I need to nap afterwards which isn't a good thing given I usually have 3.5 to 5.5 hrs to drive left depending on which direction I'm headed Overall great food, great atmosphere, great service, with a local feel which makes my tummy happy and a welcome resting stop.
