I am leaving a 2 star review based on my overall experience with That 1 Painter. While the final…read morepaint result is acceptable, the lack of professionalism throughout the project made this a frustrating experience.
For a quick summary, my primary concerns were:
* Poor communication, including staff turnover and needing to repeatedly initiate contact
* Significant delays compared to the original three day estimate, with the project lasting several weeks
* Missed areas and incomplete work requiring multiple corrections
* Inconsistent drywall patch finishing, especially in less visible areas
* Over-spray and minor damage not proactively addressed
* The home left unsecured at times, including windows left open
* Lack of ventilation during painting, causing alarms to go off overnight
* Cleanup not performed, with large amounts of trash left behind
* Being required to handle cleanup that should have been included
* Evidence of alcohol present on the job site
For full context, this was my experience:
I chose this company based on a recommendation. Early on, I went through two representatives who stopped responding, and I later learned both had left the company. This level of turnover should have been a warning sign.
I was eventually connected with someone from another branch while they filled the local role. The revised quote came in much higher and only approached the original after several rounds of clarification.
The project was described as a simple three day job in an empty house. Despite that, it extended over several weeks.
Communication remained inconsistent. There were gaps where I received no updates and had to follow up repeatedly, which contributed to delays.
I had to visit the property multiple times to point out missed areas, incomplete work, drywall issues, and over-spray. At one point, I was told the project was complete, but there were still numerous outstanding issues.
The property was not handled with expected care. It was left unsecured at times, and poor ventilation during painting caused smoke and gas detectors to go off overnight, resulting in calls from neighbors and law enforcement. This could have been avoided with basic precautions such as covering detectors and ventilating the space. Items removed were not always restored, leaving me to handle it.
I also found a half consumed alcoholic beverage on site, which I documented. I would expect a professional crew not to consume or leave alcohol at a job site.
Cleanup was not handled appropriately. Trash, materials, and supplies were left behind. When raised, items were moved rather than removed. I had to take on a significant amount of cleanup myself.
I documented these issues with photos and saved communication.
To their credit, after repeated follow up, the work was eventually brought to a level that is acceptable, which is the only reason this is not a 1 star review.
However, I expected a professional company to manage communication, maintain consistent staffing, complete the work in a reasonable time frame, take basic preventative steps, and leave the property clean and secure without requiring constant intervention.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company and would encourage others to consider alternatives.
