I love these home cooking places, especially in a small town. I got a cheese omelet and it's shaped in a perfect square and cheese in every bite. I had a sample of Basil's half order of biscuits and gravy. It was seasoned just right. For this style restaurant it appears to be half bar at night. There's lots of room and some fun type raised booths. Heather took great care of us. Turns out she went to the high school I was speaking at. We hung out here for awhile and got to watch TV while we waited. Looking forward to returning. read more

We are camped at Daly Park near Mapleton, MN and a fellow bicycle rider suggested we go to Maggie J's, the only restaurant in town. So off we went and were so glad we did! What a lovely, small town business. We love good burgers and they had a nice selection of interesting variations. Hubby chose the ever true Patty Melt and when asked what he thought he rolled his eyes, nodding, "Good burger! Really good." I took one bite of my Smothered Burger and was soon rolling my eyes and nodding along, babbling, "Good burger! Really good!" Delicious open faced with mushrooms, onions, and a delectable cheese sauce poured over the top. Very satisfying. I was able to bring half home, so good serving size. Their fries were deemed scrumptious, crispy, light coating, perfectly cooked. Our waitress, Marcella, was lovely, friendly, relaxed, yet efficient. Kudos to the cook...oh, and the ground beef was amazing. Great flavor. Can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu now that they have passed the burger test. Yum. read more

My wife and I were visiting her parents near Mapleton, MN and they were very excited to take us to their favorite local restaurant. We weren't disappointed... this place is great! We both ordered veggie burgers and fries and they were delicious. We also ordered a local beer - that they were out of... the owner didn't want us to be disappointed so he went and FOUND another beer from the same brewery (mint stout)... Great service. Mediocre food. I wish people would understand the basics. I had a Reuben and waffle fries. Rueben was ok. Food was not fresh. Fries were horrible. Under cooked. I'm guessing restaurant won't be open long if it can't pull off frying frozen waffle fries. I feel bad writing this because the waitress was really friendly. We enjoyed lunch with old friends today at Maggie's and loved the food, the service and the ambience of that place. Everyone was so friendly! My husband and friend had a bowl of tortilla soup that was packed with corn, beans and chicken. They loved it. I really enjoyed my protein burger with peanut butter, egg AND bacon. What a great combo of flavors. I will definitely be back for the food and the great beer selection. read more
