At the end of my run I returned and asked if they were associated with 'my' store 2 hours away. Not only are they, but I learned from the very nice and helpful salesperson that they have 17 stores in the southeast! It never even occurred to me to look for Fifi's elsewhere, so I was thrilled to learn this little tidbit! Now...the real reason for being there was shopping and boy was I ever pleased! A Ralph Lauren skirt in my size on the 5$ rack! I found an amazing St. John suit jacket...well, I found several but one can only buy so much at once without a scowling husband. ;) The store was clean, well-lit and had a super selection in many sizes. While not a petite myself, I was impressed to see a fully separate section for those sizes as well as a really great plus size selection! I wear 6 or 8 generally and there were a BEVY of items in those sizes. I truly think I could have completely restocked my wardrobe there--even a few evening pieces--had I chosen to stay on permanent vacation and not returned home. The shoe selection seemed quite nice in sizes up to 11, I alas wear a 13, so nothing for me, but lots of pretty pairs to look at and excellent pricing for shoes still in nearly new condition. While I cannot imagine making a trip all the way to Waynesville only to shop a consignment store, I can guarantee you that any future trip I do make there will include a stop at this delightful gem...and a purchase or two!

He told my sister how to pop the popcorn she purchased in the microwave in a paper bag (and gave her some extra paper bags) and he let us try the Amish pain relief cream. The storekeeper apparently doesn't like folks too much - especially folks that might want to buy something. My husband and I were eyed suspiciously while we walked around the store. I chose four replica vintage spice canisters and moved on to look at some vintage signs. The storekeeper rushed me out of the aisle with an abrupt "excuse me" and began slamming boxes around angrily on the next aisle. I thought maybe he was just having a bad day and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then I noticed that there were little handwritten signs on all kinds of items around the store. "Do NOT touch lamp, do NOT get the signs out of order (vintage sign replicas in a bin, how are you supposed to get them out of order?), do NOT, do NOT, do NOT - there was even a sign on a cheap little clown figurine that read "broken by a LOSER" (I assume this LOSER must have been an actual customer)?! Mind you, nothing in the shop was actually vintage or antique - all just typical souvenir quality reprints. My husband and I looked at each other like "oookkkaaayyyy" and put our selections back on the shelf and left. The souvenir shops in this area are a dime a dozen and it's unfortunate that a shop with a "stand out" name like Tarnished Swan didn't have the customer service to match. As far as I'm concerned, there is a "do NOT enter" sign on this door!
