Review #355
Magnolia Elementary School
Well, I attended this school in the 80s.. and as a kid eventhough child laws have changed I wouldn't even think of sending my kids there.. see, there were some positive and negative things that happened when I was there and even though I can't compare is stuff worth mentioning
Positive:
I remember as a kid there were Field Trips atleast 5 times per month and that's atleast so that did rule. Obviously more play grounds upstairs and downstairs and less buildings unlike now. The track system was awesome where you had like 4 - 5 months off a year. Finally, the Halloween Parade and with all the music and costumes it was a day everyone looked forward to. The book mobile ..obviously before technology took over, it was and great to get books even if it was to only see the pics. Dare program was Awesome! You also got a free Dare tshirt. The Government School Cafeteria food was good. I remember when I was in kinder and every class came out ..every student, parents, teachers and staff on to the bottom field.. and they has the radio on.. i remember every TV channel, every radio station all at the same time was interrupted with "We are the World" and every kid and everyone held hands and listened on..after a while everyone sang the chorus.. finally, Bloody Mary, she was in our Bathrooms mirror and supposedly would attack you if you called her name 3 times in the Dark..
Negative:
Well, teachers were super abusive. Why name names, these teachers probably passed away but my 1st grade teacher would lose HER temper and she would drag us on the floor, toss us to the corner, grab us and push us.. many teachers I had would put their hands on you and twist your arm..scream at you ..if you didnt understand something teachers would put you down and make fun of you... talk bad about your parents ..
I remember once there were 3 kids, 1 kid had a kid with his arms locked behind his back.. and he was yelling at the other kid who was trying to open the kids legs "agarrale el Pajaro!" And the victim kid kept resisting and the lady who was taking care of the yard didn't bother to help the boy in trouble. In 3rd grade, I remember all boys used to always play games with the girls called "Stick it in the Middle"..
Obviously things have changed but while everyone gets sentimental about this school and not being mean..I'm gonna give it 2 stars.
And looking at it now ..understanding the population isnt the same when I was a kid..but building more buildings and reducing the play fields is taking away something big from the kids childhoods so it deserves less read more
