Had to come here to try the iced carrot cake cappuccino! Also decided to try a drop biscuit, great choice. Super flavorful! Service was fast, got my coffee as soon as I found a seat. Came on a Saturday afternoon, quite packed inside and the parking lot was nearly fully. Glad I tried the cappuccino, but I can definitely say that I don't taste any carrot cake flavor in it. It's still a good coffee, just not in a carrot cake way to me. I'd come back to try something else because I enjoyed the ambiance and the biscuit. read more

If you're looking to grab Matcha, this place is not for you, the Matcha tasted like milk with no flavor at all. Super friendly service and they have a lot of other great options, but from my experience, I would not come back for Matcha. read more

This is a charming coffeehouse that feels like you're sitting in a friend's home. I will always order housemade pop tarts whenever and wherever and these were thick, flaky, and terrific. The coffee was great and I can't complain about ABBA playing multiple times during our visit. Just admit you love them, too. Very nice, cozy spot. read more

Cute cozy ambience! I like how they give you lattes unsweetened and offer a station with honey, agave, etc to sweeten it to your liking! The vegan breakfast sandwich was yummy! My bf loved the grits. My only issue is they state they don't warm up pastries. We were dining in so I wish they had a microwave we could use there. Overall, I'd come here again! read more

The girl at the front stood back and laughed at me when I ordered a cold brew with half and half. She said that is the weirdest order she's ever taken. Which is weird because it's just coffee and cream. She said "that sounds so gross omg" and stood back, covered her mouth and laughed. Why should I go back? This was my first time visiting and I am in love! The atmosphere inside was so inviting and the employees were very welcoming. The owner was paying a visit with customers during my meal which is such a great sight to see! They have some of the best chai I have ever had and the sandwich and grits were both phenomenal. We pass through Baton Rouge when we travel from Houston to NC and always try to stop at Magpie. Best cappuccinos and a healthier selection of snack & lunch food, also gluten free options. This last time as we headed back to Houston we were past the lunch rush but Ellen, Victoria and Joshua made sure we were well taken care of and Ellen kindly made me a salad to fit my gf diet. Long line, not much to choose from and the coffee was just ok. Had the apple coffee eh just didn't taste much surprisingly. I remember this place being so much better. Love the variety of coffee and espresso drinks available as well vegan options for food. I often stop by to check out new Weck containers and supplies. Magpie has the one of best selections of Weck around. Today they also had a very cute selection of petite plants that would be perfect in a terrarium. There are options for dining inside or out. Service is usually fast and friendly though drinks which are hand crafted can take a few minutes but are totally worth the wait. read more

Had an iced caramel latte, which was delicious, also got the Roosevelt, which I did find to be a bit on the bitter side. Overall good vibes. The outdoor and indoor areas are equally as cute in their own way. Very clean! The barista was very sweet and smiley. I got a mocha with oat milk that I drank way too fast. They've got lots of vegan and gluten free bites in their cooler when you walk in. I tried the spiced maca protein bites and was very pleased with the taste and texture - it's very hard to find moist vegan sweets sometimes. read more

Currently they just have pastries and coffee and that's why it's not a 5 star review. Because I came in EXPECTING to get breakfast and that's not what this is AT LEAST RIGHT NOW! So the coffee and pastries were lovely, I bought TWO AMERICANOS! Two! I got this lovely breakfast bun that had sausage and an egg cooked inside. My favorite coffee shop in BR. Magpie is intimate but bright with lots of windows and indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Super good vibes overall. The coffee is amazing, and they have rotating pastries that are all conscious of dietary restrictions, creative, and tasty. Today, I got the iced matcha with a shot of lavender--it's my go to (and was originally a recommendation from the staff). It's not to sweet, flavorful, and with enough caffeine to keep me going. I also got the oatmeal raisin pecan scone with maple glaze (chewy yet crumbly and the raisins were a good touch) and and the lemon blueberry bread (a great combo with strong flavors--one of my favorites but a little sweet). The breads are consistently amazing, as well as the muffins if you're looking for a snack. Highly recommend for just popping in for a coffee or going in for a long term study session. read more

Stopped by for breakfast since the downtown location is closed on Sundays. I expected it to be the same but it was like two totally different cafes. This location had a more laid back coffeehouse vibe. There are quite a few tables inside and outside, it's seat yourself, and you just order up front at the counter. The coffee was good, ordered a latte. The waffle I got was pretty bland, but the jam served with it gave it a bit more flavor. The quiche lorraine was so good though! Try it out of you stop by or the avocado toast. It can get pretty crowded on the weekend so there may be limited or no seating. Probably not the best spot for large groups. read more

The honey oat latte is amazing cold and so is their regular oat latte. Loooved it! Top fav coffee shop in the Baton Rouge area This is a huge statement for me because I am a coffee lover, coffee addict, coffeeaholic. The staff is so nice and welcoming. They will make you feel at home and give great drink suggestions. Looking for a study spot? Looking for a quick bite? Looking for a place to have a coffee date? Magpie Cafe is a great option if you're over in the Perkins Overpass area. I can't comment on their actual food, but I'm a fan of their baked goods (keto and vegan friendly items!) and coffee. There's free, fast Wi-fi, outlets/extensions, gender-specific restrooms, very friendly and knowledgeable service, and an outdoor seating area. The only cons are the limited parking (but there's always parking if you don't mind walking a bit), and it can get a little loud and crowded. Prices are a little higher than I'd like, around Starbucks prices, but I don't mind paying more for these healthier and local options. Overall, I'm definitely a fan of Magpie! read more

During my Louisiana book-signing trip, I took a day to go to Baton Rouge. I stopped off at this little cafe for a snack and coffee. I always plan my stops out in advance of traveling as I need to make sure gluten-free options are available and the reviewers always review the hidden gems. This quaint and cozy cafe is definitely one of those gems. Dorothy took my order at the counter, and she was friendly and had more than one gluten-free snack to offer. I actually got to order a piece of Paleo coffee cake and it was to die for! I haven't been able to get a coffee cake out in, literally, years. This was moist and topped with pecans...plenty of cinnamon spice. I also got an Americano, and I can tell you that their coffee is superb. I got my order to go, but there were lots of little tables inside at which to sit. I regret I didn't take my phone inside to snap a few inside pictures because the inside was just so cute. For such a simple cake order, that response felt unreasonable and inflexible, especially given how quickly I called back. A little customer service and understanding would have gone a long way. It's disappointing because the quality of the cakes is excellent, but policies like this make customers feel unvalued. Unfortunately, this experience will keep me from ordering from them again.
