Ordered fried cheese 5/5 amazing, squid 4/5 flavors good but portion was small considering it was $16 lol wouldn't get it again, roti 4/5 good! But I like banana island roti more haha. Papaya salad 3/5 it was good but too spicy for me; very refreshing appetizer! Lychee curry duck was good 5/5 a little overcooked but I enjoyed it! Steak with rice was good! As for drinks lychee ice tea was refreshing! Not too sweet! As for dessert we got both of their dessert Thai tea bingsuu 5/5 and Kaya toast 3/5. Bill was $210 total not including tips. We had reservations for dinner on the 4th of July and it was packed. It was a full house and service was still impeccable. We got our order taken fast and the food was served quickly as well. Our waitress returned to check on us several times and our water was kept full without fail. Our dinner included the lychee curry duck, ribeye with garlic rice, crab fried rice, spicy eggplant and garlic prawns. The curry had a wonderful sweetness from the lychee and had just enough acid from the tomatoes to cut the heaviness of the duck. The duck could probably use a few minutes less of cooking time. We asked for the ribeye to be cooked rare and was not disappointed. It was perfect. My only wish was the rice had more garlic flavor. The garlic prawns were fried with the shell on and had an amazing crunchiness. I don't think I could ever get tired of them. The spicy eggplant was a huge surprise...it may be one of the best eggplant dishes I've had in a long time. The crab fried was was pretty good but not exciting. It was a little light on crab for the price. We are looking forward to going back and trying the other menu choices. I would definitely make reservations given the popularity. This is coming from someone who has tried Khao Tiew so my standards may be a lot higher than other reviewers. However, due to similar signature dishes (Khao Pad Man Neur, Duck Curry, etc) it's worth framing in context. I typically don't like slapping 5* reviews so take this with a grain of salt because it's worth trying! Khao Pad Man Neur $33: 6.5/10 Ribeye was a nice medium rare, slices were juicy. Garlic chips accented the dish well. In the end this is a rice dish, and we felt the beef tallow flavors & depth was lacking inside the rice. It's not the best sign that the ribeye that shines brighter than the actual rice; we were really lacking that meaty, intense impact from what fried rice usually is. For the price set, we were really expecting much stronger flavors but it came flat. Lychee Duck Curry: $25 7/10 Pretty solid, tastes how you'd imagine it. Curry is a bit creamier than what we wanted but it's still strong. Duck was sliced well and cooked to a good doneness. However, we felt the lychee neither adds nor takes away from the overall dish. There's a slight fruity sweetness to the curry but this doesn't accentuate the dish in a way where the other flavors show up better. Just feels slightly sweeter. Looks pretty though. Plad Tom nom Pla: $32 5.5/10 Take the 5.5 rating with a slight edge of optimism because I think this dish has lots of potential. The dipping sauce was refreshing and the fish flavors were good. What made this a 5.5 for us was the fish, naturally supposed to be deep fried to match the bone texture, may have been over fried when we received it. After a few minutes it quickly became dry, chewy and tough despite having good seasoning & dip. While not a problem for us, note the menu says boneless however there are bones, meant to be edible, in the dish. Tom Sabb Neur: $21 5/10 Unfortunately, this dish felt flat to me. The broth had a clear lemongrass, spicy base which feel standard to thai soups. However, we were expecting the other ingredients to contribute more flavor. The beef shank was a bit overcooked & did not add to the soup in any way. Despite having mushrooms, onions, and beef, the soups main flavors were lemon grass and chili. It did not feel like there was synergy between the soup base and the ingredients that brought the dish together. This was disappointing but otherwise no major errors were elsewhere. Service/atmosphere The waiter was very polite & kind :) Always made sure we had water & answered all the questions we had. Ambiance is very cute, very light green and flowery vibes especially nice for date nights. I'd give the decorations, vibes & service an 8/10. As a soft opening I hope they take feedback & adjust their menu. There is a lot of potential however at the moment it's a little short! Looking forward to try again! read more

Authentic, top quality Thai food is finally here! My family stopped by during their soft opening, and we ended up ordering about 80% of the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious, with beautiful presentation across the board. It's a bit of a twist on what you usually see at Thai restaurants in the city but trust me it's still very authentic. Some of my favorite dishes were the garlic shrimp, Pad Thai (street food style... so good!), the deep fried whole fish and the lychee duck curry. Ohhhhh don't skip dessert... the Thai tea bingsu is a must :D We travel back and forth to Asia often, so we know what we're talking about. Definitely coming back again soon. overall a pretty solid and authentic Thai spot and not oily at all, best in san mateo imo came on a Sunday for 7, we were the last large group allowed in, was about an hour wait. they were sold out of favorites like the lychee duck curry and dishes using the pad Thai noodles so come early if you want to try those. service was good but they were pretty busy so the waitlist situation was kind of hectic apps were all pretty good: - 2 Wing zaap chicken wings - perfect amount of spice and crunch without being oily, and they give fat pieces - 3 roti drip - roti was slightly crispy and not oily at all, paired with a flavorful yellow curry - Crispy pork belly - it was crispy like stated, pork belly was paired with a typical tangy, savory sauce - grilled squid - it was the tiniest bit chewy but tender, and bursted with a green sour and savory sauce main: - khao soy - very flavorful curry, with extremely tender chicken straight from the bone, noodles were cooked perfectly - spicy crab noodle - usually not a fan of pad Thai but these noodles were thick with gravy-like sauce and not dry at all, and less peanuty which I liked, the crab pieces were large and juicy - khao pad mun nuer - beef tallow fried rice, the fried rice was very flavorful and salted, ribeye was good here - crab fat fried rice - their fried rice dishes are really good, crab was also really juicy - panang curry with ribeye (substitute for lychee duck curry since they use the same curry) - I thought the curry was a bit flavorless somehow, the ribeye was slightly tough, not my favorite - kee mow ribeye - instant noodles were an interesting choice to use, noodles were still pretty flavorful but I think there's better - basil minced pork - I would skip this, it's basically just ground pork with rice and nothing special, wasn't really a fan of the pork - pink milk and Thai iced tea drinks were presented in pretty cups, pretty standard food came out quickly one by one, service might be slow at first in giving waters and ordering but servers are kind and helpful read more

We were excited to try this new restaurant in San Mateo, but unfortunately had two disappointing experiences back to back. The restaurant hours say they're open until 9 PM, but when we arrived around 8:15 PM, we were told they were no longer taking orders. When we asked why the hours say 9 PM if orders stop much earlier, the staff response was not helpful. Our first visit wasn't much better, we arrived around 7 PM on a Sunday evening and were told there was over an hour wait with no certainty that a table would even become available. It's understandable for a new restaurant to work through growing pains, but clearer communication about wait times and kitchen closing times would really help customers avoid frustration. There were four of us on a Thursday evening without a reservation, we got lucky, we were seated in 15 minutes or so. If you are planning to have seat in time get a reservation. Food was excellent, Pork Belly appetizer, Rice with steak and raw egg, Panang Curry with prawns(pectfectly spiced), pad see ew was just ordinary and Thai Tea shaved ice complemented eveything in pecfect harmony. Everything was just dry and overcooked! The garlic shrimp was dry and there was still shrimp poop inside. The Lychee Duck curry was undercooked. We were fed with rare duck. At the end when paying, they didn't allow us to pay a lower tip. They forced a 20% tip by not allowing you to look at the payment. Everything was just bad. this is actually a khao tiew dupe if not better... because tell me why this was the best khao soi i've had in the bay area thus far. this place also has the beef fried rice that khao tiew has but i didn't try it so im not sure if this spot tops them in that category... but everything else was PHENOMENAL (aside from the service quality) papaya salad was crunchy and tangy while also being light and refreshing, tom yum was also rich and tangy and had bits of shrimp and other veggies in it, and the pork basil stir fry thing was also surprisingly good despite how unassuming it looked. lastly, the khao soi was so flavorful and rich, the only note that i had for the chicken was that it was slightly colder than the noodles/curry itself which was a little off putting. food aside, i do think that their service has a lot to work on. i know this restaurant has been open for only a month and we also got seated during a rush, but they forgot to give us a menu and we tried waving them down multiple times before a bus boy gave us a menu. we also didn't really get checked up on throughout the meal and it just seemed that there wasn't enough staff for the entire restaurant. overall, that was something that was quite disappointing even though the restaurant is "upscale". definitely something to note and i hope that they work on this because it was a really great food experience and it was just sad to see this read more

They're a newbie and I have no doubt they'll iron out some of the kitchen kinks. Their customer service is superb, sweet and welcoming. Their ambience is awesome, and out of the box civilized and quiet, hushed to the point you can actually hear each other with gorgeous sage walls and gold appointments, little flickering candles on the tables. Beautiful setting. Their duck curry, the curry itself very robust and flavorful with chilis toned down which we'd asked for, but still full of pizzaz. We found the meat itselfd on the tough side, and while no connoisseurs of the bird, it shouldn't be this resistant to the fork and knife. The papaya sald had some good flavors, but the beans advertised were barely there, we had to kinda hunt them doewn on the plate, it also needed more of a balance between sour and tangy and salty and sweet to really explode onto the palate. The veggie pad thai with grilled tofu was serviceable and my husband ate it for leftovers for two nights. So a solid bet, but have I had better elsewhere? Yes.ave I also had worse? Yes. Visited during their soft opening and was really impressed. The papaya salad was incredibly flavorful, and the tom yum soup tasted just like what you'd find in Thailand so comforting and authentic. The wine list was a pleasant surprise I ordered a Riesling, which paired perfectly with the spicy dishes and felt very thoughtfully curated. Finally a good Thai restaurant in the Peninsula! The food quality is top tier, and honestly rivaled the quality of some of the best restaurants I've been to in Bangkok/Chiang Mai. The service is so kind and attentive, and the ambiance is really nice. We went around 7:45pm on Friday night and everything came out super fast and piping hot! I'd ignore the 1 star reviews on here, they are not justified at all. Besides, it is a soft opening, they are still working out the logistics and staffing, so they deserve some grace. We didn't experience any delays in service at all, but would totally understand if there was in the first few weeks for sure. The owners are the same as Taste + Glory if you've been, really great brunch spot. They are opening this restaurant as a purely Thai dinner spot, and the complexity they pull off on these dishes is really top tier. Honestly I had a much better meal here than Kin Khao in the city. We ordered the Khao Soi and Khao Pad Mun Nuer and both were incredibly good! The curry in the Khao Soi was perfectly balanced, with perfectly cooked chicken drumstick/thigh still on the bone. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was spot on! I regret not taking pictures, it smelled so good I couldn't wait to start eating lol. The presentation of the dishes were also very pretty. We also had the Thai Tea Bingsu which rivaled the quality of U:Dessert in the city. So good! We will definitely be back to try their entire menu. Had dinner here last night. The wait was projected as an hour but we were seated in about 45 min (got on the waitlist at 7 pm). We started with the roti with yellow curry, followed by green curry with black rice (which they were able to substitute tofu to make vegetarian) and the pad see ew with shrimp. Both were excellent! We finished with the Thai tea shaved ice with coconut milk and Thai jelly. Incredibly refreshing and light. The menu doesn't mention that tofu can be substituted for meat in dishes, but they accommodate vegetarians very easily so don't be dissuaded by the lack of obvious vegetarian items on menu. read more
