The meal was basic vegetable soup that is one of those soups you could get at your nans, warming and hits the spot. Mains was chicken supreme, sage and onion stuffing with ham, 2 veg, roast potatoand mash potatoes with a beefy, salty, silky smooth jus; heaven. The meal was amazing and great value for money. I had a two course meal, homemade veg soup and pork fillet with cream sauce/ cram mash potato and veg. It was beautiful, the staff were brilliant too. very attentive nothing was too much for them. they looked after us so well. The cost of the two course meal was €22.95. would without a doubt be returning again in the future. would also recommend to family and friends

Gordon in the Ballast Bar was wonderful as was the barman, whose name I failed to get. But a special thank you goes to Kate at the hotel Reception Desk. The staff are friendly and attentive, and if you are a local you are bound to meet someone in here you know. I visited the bar and grill on a Friday afternoon for lunch which was filling up quickly at 1pm. The menu is varied - Carvery options, fresh fish, burgers, wraps, sandwiches the list goes on! Each time I have eaten here I have found the food to be filing and tasty with food orders arriving in good time. They also have a restaurant - Oyster Lane restaurant which provides a luxurious dining experience. The hotel overlooks the marina and they have their own car park at the rear which is free of charge as long as you are a paying customer :-) So if you are looking for quality fresh food then look no further!

Having dreamed of a country cottage for Christmas for many years now, Sheepwalk House had a lot to…read morelive up to. I was looking for log fires, country walks, hot showers and home comforts - luckily, Reggie (Regina) McCabe was on hand to make sure everything was perfectly magical. From the start, the service was five star. Knowing that we didn't have a car, Reggie asked us to email a shopping list of everything we wanted and collected all our supplies for us, including local produce, wine and fuel for a week. She decorated the cottage with a Christmas tree and decorations, and even made us mince pies. It didn't stop there; she drove us to a mushroom farm and into the town to get our bearings. At all times, Reggie was professional and helpful, without being overbearing. Perfect! We stayed in The Coach House which was warmed for our arrival. Although it was perfectly kitted out with everything we needed for cooking and baking, Reggie invited us to tour her kitchen for any additional items we might like. The bedrooms were snug and the beds really comfortable. The real fire was a delight, creating a lovely cosy atmosphere in the cold, frosty nights. Located between Avoca (home of TV series Ballykissangel) and Arklow village, it's also just ten minutes drive from the stunning shoreline and sand dunes of Brittas Bay. The cottages are difficult to find on the night time because they're set back from the road, but the directions on the website are perfect. We got a peek into all the other cottages which ranged from for two people to six. Every one was carefully decorated and well stocked to create a home away from home. We had visitors over the week and each one loved the setting and the cottage. If you want personal service, comfort and a real country feel, then that's exactly what you'll find. I'm already planning to return for a weekend writing break at the end of February.

A concrete platform and walkway runs the length of the Southern cliff, with ladders and ramps to allow quick access to the water, without the bane of sandy-feet. Backed by lovely shady woods, it has everything (including public loos and changing rooms) necessary for a trip to the seaside.

A few things to note though. First. the wifi on the ferry didn't really work. It was a fiver an hour and it cut off constantly and was basically unusable. Also, this ferry is smaller than some of the other ones you can get so if you hit rough seas you will feel it sure, but it didn't bother me that much. Another thing is the food, although very good, was very expensive. All meals were. €11.90 and on a 16 hour ferry you will need to eat. That being said they are much like the Ryanair of ferries. You get the basic transportation for very little, but if you opt for things like food and cabins you will pay dear for them. I still give them four stars because the service is brilliant, the staff is great, and they get you there fast, on time for half the price of some of the competitors.
