We came to realize that regenative medicine could be a possible help to him. Dr Fenton had my son SO POSITIVE after the consult. My son is very knowledgeable about his diseases, and he was very impressed with Dr Fenton's plan. And ready to drive from Boston to Vermont, no matter how uncomfortable. I've never seen him so excited, and so believing that a doctor finally, this doctor, understood his issues. Fenton sends a plan, we call to make the in-person procedure appointments. The secretary stumbles around and says "Dr Fenton has decided he doesn't want to move forward with your son." WHAT?? My son is thrilled with this doctor. Excited to start treatments. Why?? "He just doesn't think he can help him now." We FINALLY get Fenton on the phone again, after begging. He agrees with my son that his negative decision was hasty, and he WILL move forward. We call to set the appointment a few days later. "Dr Fenton has chose to not move forward...again." WHAT? Why would he do that to that to someone suffering. To get their hope up? "The doctor really wears his heart on his sleeve." No...THAT IS JUST THE OPPOSITE! He has NO FEELINGS or REGARDS for my son's mental state, and BELIEF in him! His office says we should consult with his colleague in CT...who was far less knowledgeable, caring, and actually, rude. Since then, my son has gotten worse and in more pain as the weeks and months progressed. We hope Fenton can live with himself. And his "heart on his sleeve."

Twice was scheduled for spine epidurals. First time they called me the day before saying it could…read morenot be done because my platelet count was too low. First I had heard of this being an issue, was extremely disappointed. Over two years later same Dr. recommends the same treatment. I figured they had worked it out by now. Silly me. Requested SSTA ride the week before, got to Tilley Drive, checked in, was taken to treatment room where assistant explained things to me. She left, saying the Dr. would be in shortly to administer the epidural. The Dr. did come in, a new one, only to inform me that they could not do the epidural for the same reason as before. I was in tears at this point. I asked what they were basing this on, they said blood work another dr. had done almost six months previously. The didn't offer to do a new blood test. I paid for an Uber home, I was too upset to wait for SSTA to return. The trip cost $25. Apparently no one even cracked open my chart until I was there. Disappointment was even worse this time. Don't plan on being let down by them again. The buck stops with the prescribing dr., who apparently was not all that interested in me or my pain levels.

Had an appt with UVM Ortho on 8/14. Was told by doctor that I needed to get an epidural at Pain…read moreClinic & that they (pain clinic) would call me in about 20 days to schedule. After 20 days go by, I call pain clinic only to be told I'm in a pile of papers (otherwise known as the queue), and I'll be called when my name comes up. I mention that I am uninsured & hopefully that might expedite things because there's no insurance process to go through. I get a call a couple of days later asking me if I have insurance (mind you, I've already filled out my patient chart online & have been contacted by a hospital administrator to create my chart...both of which state I am uninsured). This person was not calling to schedule, only check for insurance. After another two weeks goes by, I call pain clinic again, because still no call for appt. They tell me they called me on 8/13 to schedule my appt & I didn't answer, so they removed me from the queue. (This is nonsense since I hadn't even seen the referring provider until 8/14!!) I call referring provider & a series of back & forth contacts ensue...about 10 days later, after receiving zero communication from pain clinic, I call & I'm finally able to make an appointment, but it's for 10/27. I mention that I am in agonizing pain with numbness & can barely sleep, and they don't care that we are now looking at over a month past when I was supposed to be seen due to their screw up. I have no choice but to wait for this appointment. Appt goes pretty well, but I have had no relief from the epidural at all. I receive invoice promptly (of course, that's about the only thing they're prompt with). I pay invoice thinking that was expensive, but not a horrible price (amounted to almost $700 for uninsured). A few weeks later, I get second invoice for over $3000. I believe this is a mistake since I already paid. I call billing dept & they tell me first invoice is for provider & second is for the facility. Meanwhile: UVM medical has posters literally everywhere talking about price transparency...they say you should never be surprised by the price of your treatment/care. During this entire process from start to finish, no one ever contacted me to let me know how much any of these procedures would be. If I had known, especially as an uninsured patient, that an epidural would be over $4000, I never would have opted for this procedure. This place, and the entire UVM experience, is rife with disorganization, lack of communication between departments & incompetency. Horribly disappointed & don't plan to ever return to this entity.

I went to Dr. Mike & committed 100% to the process. I made it a priority. I went in on the schedule he suggested and thank goodness for Melinda's follow up and their automated reminders. I did the exercises he provided that were specially curated for me and my pain points. I did them religiously. I started this because I was told by an interventional pain clinic that I was required to try 6 weeks of Chiro, massage, or PT BEFORE I could get a referral to the pain clinic. The medical clinic actually made this a requirement. They told me that often this alternative course of care alone resolves the pain without medical intervention. The climate of healthcare is changing and more and more I am seeing all types of providers work together and understand one another's areas of expertise and ability to positively impact lasting improvement and resolution of symptoms. I am so glad I not only went to Dr. Mike but I listened to his instructions and I followed them and I am well on my way to feeling better. Go, but don't just go, DO! I've seen so many specialists that all ended with the conclusion that my pain wasn't bad enough or not worth doing anything about. Waking up in constant pain and being told there is nothing they can do and wait until it gets worse isn't the best quality of life in my opinion. I then had all of my appointments cancelled by them after being sick the following week and calling to let them know because I had been a "no show" even though this wasn't true. They were extremely rude and called me untruthful when I have no reason to lie, I was going based off what I was told. They told me I was "changing my story" and that "Andy would never do that" when my story had not changed at all, I was communicating that it was unfair to have all my appointments cancelled when I was simply following orders. I have been waiting months for this care and to be treated like this is absolutely unacceptable. I have never been treated this badly by healthcare professionals before.
