The noodles themselves were thin egg noodles that were slightly soggy but it also came topped with fried crunchy noodles, which provided the crisp. The spice paired well with a creamy Thai iced tea! Good thing they put the Andaman Seafood in a plastic bag, because it spilled and was messy to take out. When we picked up our food, the staff asked if we wanted any utensils or sauce which was nice Chu-Chi Salmon ($22): Not a lot of curry, which was a letdown. The salmon itself was a generous portion but didn't taste like anything special. I did like the carrot slices though. The salmon came with rice so I chose brown rice but it turned out to be purple rice. Son in Law Eggs ($9): Comes with 6 fried egg halves. I've pretty much have ordered every Thai food within a 5 miles radius of me, and they are consistently better than everyone that has the same price point. I will say that I am a bit of a pepper head so spice is an important factor to me, and Mai Thai are the only ones who have come close to brutalizing me in the best way possible. Food is really great. In two visits in four days it must be good. Only one dish was disappointing and all the others were excellent. First of all, we can't rave enough about the Tom Yum soup. It's excellent even this time with the chicken. Although I personally preferred it with shrimp Today we tried the spring rolls which were good filled with a lot of lettuce and veggies just the way we like it. The Thai food here is solid. I think there are better Thai places in Austin but given there's a dearth of Asian food in Downtown, mai Thai is a great option. My go tos are the salad and the cashew tofu or pad prick king. I enjoy the food here a lot and I think it's a decent place to sit down and enjoy your food in downtown. My fiancé got the crab fried rice and was also incredibly impressed. There is metered street parking and a parking garage down the street. We walked over from a hotel close by. The interior had lower lighting, trivia and videos playing on the tv. We were seated quickly and got our drinks right away. It took a little while to take our order but once placed the appetizer came out quickly. It was crunchy and the sweet sour wasn't overly sweet. Restaurant was a decent size and cozy. I loved the art on the wall. Server was very attentive, despite all the calls he had to answer and orders that he hand over for pickup. Potions were decent. I ate about half and took the other half to go (which was perfect for my late night dinner later that night hehe). We ordered the Mai Thai noodles and Pad Thai as well as the chicken wing appetizers. I have been going to Mai Thai for the last dozen years. In the early years, it was quite good. From about 2015 to early 2020, its quality slipped. But during the COVID years, it began emerging into a first rate restaurant. Everything I've tried for both lunch and dinner have been quite good. Some of my favorites include: Eggplant delight -- either with tofu or any of the meats. Surprisingly simple but served with a light but tasty sauce. Panang and red curry dishes come with savory sauces and are delightful. The stir fried dishes are all reliably excellent. The staff is quite nice. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired but the food makes up for it. read more
