Then, I found G-Whizz with whom I had a short but positive discussion. They don't do appointments so you have to take your bike down, to their place just off Hove seafront, discuss the problems, leave the bike and wait to be contacted to pick it up again. When I collected my bike, they fitted a new free-wheel mechanism and a new chain at a very reasonable price. I rode my bike home to Woodingdean, in light rain and the bike is as good as the time when I bought it new and first road it. Outstanding work G-Whizz, I highly recommend you to everyone and you will be my 'go to' bike repairers.

Walking into the shop, you can see the workshop to the side, full of oil and elbow grease, where bikes are refurbished and other bikes repaired. Unfortunately they didn't have a bike suitable for me when I visited (stupidly I decided to try and buy a cheap bike at the start of the university term when they'd already been snapped up in freshers' week),. but having seen the obvious professionalism here I would certainly bring my bike here for repairs.

Blatchington Road can be a pretty depressing place at times, so it's nice to see some shiny new mechanical marvels to brighten up your day. With top brands such as a Schwinn, you might find yourself forking out some serious cash, but then again, these are some serious bikes. If I was looking for a decent road, or mountain bike, I'd definitely check out Hove Cycles. With a small place like this, you also tend to get the benefit of knowledgeable staff, which is why they are still in business competing with the likes of Halfords, Bike Hut and the other biking big boys. It's nice to see they're keeping afloat and that passionate people still succeed.

But don't be fooled by it's appearance, it's a really good place to come if you want to fix your bike or if you want to buy a new one (second hand new one). Aaron himself is a really personable guy and often does deals if you want to get into a bit of haggling, he's also knowledgeable and truthful about what you need to do to current bikes. They put the wrong chain on as they didn't have the right one in stock so I took it back to get switched over and he said I could pick up my bike the next day. The shop was closed for the next THREE DAYS with their phone off, no way to contact them and no sign of why they were shut or when they'd open again. It's completely ridiculous - they need to realise that people use bikes as their main mode of transport and I was left completely stranded. I will NEVER be returning.

Customer service is obviously at the fore front and they will go the extra mile. You feel as if you are getting advice from a good friend as opposed to a sales person. They have an array of sport offerings but particularly specialise in cricket, tennis, rugby and fitness. The items and clothing that they stock is of top performance but also looks really good. In particular I have purchased some great running gear that performs well, is comfortable and is well styled. They have a great eye for product. They are an exciting addition to the Hove and Brighton community. I am all for championing good local retailers such as Nick Rivett Sport.
